Introduction
Chapter 1
Emily strode into the gleaming lobby of Mitchell Financial, her heels clicking decisively on the polished marble. The usual receptionists and junior associates greeted her with warm smiles, used to seeing the fiancée of their star Ryan Mitchell.
"Evening, Ms. Carter," called out Janice from the front desk. "Surprising Ryan?"
Emily flashed a tight smile, her stomach fluttering with anticipation. "You know me, can't stay away."
She made her way to the elevator, mind racing. It had been weeks since she'd seen Ryan outside of hurried dinners and distracted phone calls. His big merger was finally wrapping up and her massive project was finally done and dusted - time to celebrate and reconnect.
The elevator dinged open on the executive floor. Emily's heels sunk into plush carpeting as she approached Ryan's corner office. Muffled sounds filtered through the heavy oak door. Was that...?
Emily's hand froze on the doorknob. A woman's breathy moan. Rhythmic thumping.
"Oh fuck," she whispered. Her fingers trembled as she twisted the handle.
The door swung open. Emily's gasp caught in her throat.
There was Ryan, jeans around his ankles, another woman bent over his mahogany desk. Papers scattered across the floor. The woman's blouse was rucked up, exposing a lacy red bra.
Ryan's head snapped up at the sound of the door. His eyes went wide with shock.
"Emily! I can expl-"
"You fucking bastard!" Emily shouted. "How could you?!" Tears blurred her vision as she spun on her heel and fled.
Behind her, Ryan cursed and tried to chase after her, trousers tangled around his legs. There was a muffled thud and a yelp of pain as he face-planted onto the carpet.
Emily jabbed furiously at the elevator button, chest heaving. How could she have been so blind? So fucking stupid?
As the doors slid closed, she heard Ryan's plaintive voice:
"Emily, wait! It's not what it looks like!"
She leaned against the elevator wall, legs shaking. "It's exactly what it looks like, you lying sack of shit," she muttered.
The facade had shattered. Now she saw Ryan for what he truly was - a selfish, cheating asshole who had played her for a fool.
As the elevator descended, Emily took a deep breath. She was done with his bullshit. It was time to take back control of her life, starting right fucking now.
Emily burst through the office doors, her vision blurred by hot tears. The shocked faces of Ryan's coworkers swam before her as she stumbled towards the exit, her heels clicking frantically on the polished floor.
"Emily, wait!" Ryan's voice echoed behind her, tinged with desperation.
She spun around, green eyes flashing with fury. "Fuck off back to your mistress, you lying piece of shit!" The venom in her words made several nearby employees gasp.
Ryan reached for her arm, still struggling to fasten his belt. "Please, let me explain-"
"Explain what?" Emily snarled, jerking away from his touch. "How you decided to screw your secretary when you’re meant to be marrying me? Save it for someone who gives a damn."
She stormed out of the building, the warm summer air hitting her tear-stained face. Her chest heaved as she fumbled for her phone, fingers shaking as she pulled up Sophia's number.
The call connected after two rings. "Hey Em, what's up?"
"Soph," Emily choked out, her voice breaking. "I need you. Ryan... he..."
"Whoa, slow down," Sophia's tone shifted instantly to concern. "What happened? Where are you?"
Emily leaned against a nearby lamppost, struggling to steady her breathing. "Outside Ryan's office. I caught him... God, Soph, he was fucking his coworker."
"That rat bastard!" Sophia's outrage crackled through the phone. "I'm on my way. Don't move, okay? And if that asshole tries to talk to you again, kick him in the nuts for me."
Despite everything, a watery laugh escaped Emily's lips. "Thanks, Soph. I don't know what I'd do without you."
As she ended the call, Emily's gaze drifted to the diamond ring glittering on the path where she'd thrown it. For a moment, she considered picking it up - but no. Let him keep the damn thing. She was done letting Ryan Mitchell have any power over her life.
She wiped furiously at her eyes, willing Sophia to arrive faster. The cold wind whipped her hair, carrying the scent of pine and betrayal.
"Emily, please!" Ryan's voice cut through the night air. "Just let me explain!"
She whirled to face him, her grief transforming into white-hot rage. "Explain what, Ryan? How your dick accidentally fell into your coworker?"
Ryan flinched, his perfectly coiffed hair now disheveled. "It's not like that. Things haven't been right between us for a while now."
"Fuck you," Emily spat. Her hands shook as she clenched them into fists. "Don't you dare try to pin this on me."
He took a step closer, hands raised placatingly. "I'm not. I just... I made a mistake. We can work through this."
Emily barked out a harsh laugh. "Work through it? Are you fucking kidding me?" She glanced at her bare ring finger, the skin there still pale from where the engagement band had sat. "There's nothing to work through. We're done."
Ryan's blue eyes widened, a flicker of genuine panic crossing his face. "Babe, please. I love you."
"Don't call me that," Emily snarled. She backed away, her spine hitting the rough brick of the wall. "You don't get to say that to me anymore."
As Ryan opened his mouth to speak again, the screech of tyres pierced the air. Sophia's battered Volkswagen came to a halt at the curb, and Emily's shoulders sagged with relief.
"Emily!" Sophia called, leaning out the window. Her eyes narrowed as she took in the scene. "What the fuck is going on?"
Emily didn't answer, just yanked open the passenger door. She paused, fixing Ryan with a final, venomous glare.
As she slammed the car door, Emily caught a glimpse of Ryan's face. A tiny part of her heart ached, but she crushed it ruthlessly. She'd trusted him, loved him, and he'd thrown it all away.
"Drive," she told Sophia, her voice cracking. "Just... please, drive."
As the car pulled away, leaving Ryan standing alone in the glow of the pub lights, Emily finally let herself break down. Sophia's hand found hers, squeezing tightly as they drove into the night, leaving behind the shattered remains of what Emily had thought would be her happily ever after.

The Family Sacrifice
I simply said one word: "Okay."
My parents and Gilbert were stunned. They rushed to have me sign the voluntary donation form, afraid I’d change my mind.
Some days later, they sent me to the operating room.
Dad said, "Yvonne will finally be saved. We're so proud of you."
Mom said, "After the surgery, we'll make it up to you."
Gilbert looked tenderly at Yvonne and said, "When you're better, where should we travel?"
What they didn't know was that the day I agreed, I'd just received my diagnosis, stage four cancer. Three months to live.
As I lay on the cold operating table, as the anesthesia began to take effect, I only wanted to know one thing:
If I die on this operating table, will they regret it?
He Never Loved Me, Until I Left
I put away the divorce agreement with a wry smile.
When he and my son completely disappeared, he finally panicked.
Three months later .
He knelt down on the streets of Chicago in despair, begging me to remarry him.
My six-year-old son looked coldly at his biological father and said, "Get lost, you bad uncle! You don't deserve to be my dad!"
He Thought I'd Never Leave
When he said he was being bullied, I believed him. When he kissed me on that rooftop, I thought he felt the same. When he asked me to transfer schools with him, I said yes without hesitation.
Then I heard him bragging to his friends: "She'd save her first time for me. Hell, she'd still be thinking of me on her wedding night."
The bullying was staged. The kiss meant nothing. He just wanted me gone—so his new girl could feel more comfortable.
He thought I'd beg. He thought I'd cry. He thought I'd never actually leave.
I left the country.
And ran straight into his stepbrother.
I Died While They Threw Her a Party
Their real daughter came home. She'd only been back two years. That's all it took to erase twenty-four.
When kidnappers grabbed us, I used my body as a shield. They beat me until something inside me ruptured. I was dying from internal bleeding, but no one could tell.
My parents wouldn't even look at me. "This is your fault! None of this would've happened if it weren't for you!"
"Get downstairs and apologize to your sister. If you can't, pack your things and get out."
They threw her a party at a downtown hotel while I died alone in my room.
I thought they'd be relieved. Maybe even glad. I thought they'd just move on like I never existed.
But when they finally learned the truth, they fell apart.
Bury Me in His Regret
The kidnapper pressed the gun to my temple and asked, "Choose your wife or your sister-in-law?"
Zachary didn't hesitate. "Let Valerie go," he said.
He actually chose to save his sister-in-law! In that moment, even the baby in my belly seemed to stop kicking.
Later, they locked me in the basement. Drugs to delay labor were pumped into my veins over and over. Zachary wanted to save the "firstborn son" status for his sister-in-law's child.
When warm blood finally soaked through my skirt, I dialed the number I knew by heart with shaking hands.
"Zachary," I whispered into the phone, "our child... can't wait any longer."
The Kidney That Killed Me
A few months ago, my sister was hospitalized with kidney failure. The doctor said she needed a transplant. My family's first thought was me—the backup daughter they'd kept around all these years.
When my husband Allen took my hand with tears in his eyes and said, "Only you can save her," I agreed without hesitation.
When the doctor explained the surgical risks and potential complications, I smiled and nodded my understanding.
My parents said I'd finally learned what sisterly love meant.
Even Allen, who'd always been cold to me, held my hand gently and said, "The surgery's safe. You're so healthy, nothing will go wrong. When you recover, I'll take you to Hawaii."
But they don't know that no matter how the surgery goes, I won't be around to celebrate.
Because I just got my own test results—I have terminal brain cancer. I'm going to die anyway.
After the Affair: Falling into a Billionaire's Arms
From first crush to wedding vows, George Capulet and I had been inseparable. But in our seventh year of marriage, he began an affair with his secretary.
On my birthday, he took her on vacation. On our anniversary, he brought her to our home and made love to her in our bed...
Heartbroken, I tricked him into signing divorce papers.
George remained unconcerned, convinced I would never leave him.
His deceptions continued until the day the divorce was finalized. I threw the papers in his face: "George Capulet, from this moment on, get out of my life!"
Only then did panic flood his eyes as he begged me to stay.
When his calls bombarded my phone later that night, it wasn't me who answered, but my new boyfriend Julian.
"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"
George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"
"I'm afraid that's impossible."
Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."

What? No—wait… oh Moon Goddess, no.
Please tell me you're joking, Lex.
But she's not. I can feel her excitement bubbling under my skin, while all I feel is dread.
We turn the corner, and the scent hits me like a punch to the chest—cinnamon and something impossibly warm. My eyes scan the room until they land on him. Tall. Commanding. Beautiful.
And then, just as quickly… he sees me.
His expression twists.
"Fuck no."
He turns—and runs.
My mate sees me and runs.

The Human Among Wolves
My stomach twisted, but he wasn’t finished.
"You're just a pathetic little human," Zayn said, his words deliberate, each one hitting like a slap. "Spreading your legs for the first guy who bothers to notice you."
Heat rushed to my face, burning with humiliation. My chest ached — not from his words alone, but from the sick realization that I had trusted him. That I had let myself believe he was different.
I was so, so stupid.

Accardi
“I thought you said you were done chasing me?” Gen mocked.
“I am done chasing you.”
Before she could formulate a witty remark, Matteo threw her down. She landed hard on her back atop his dining room table. She tried to sit up when she noticed what he was doing. His hands were working on his belt. It came free of his pants with a violent yank. She collapsed back on her elbows, her mouth gaping open at the display. His face was a mask of sheer determination, his eyes were a dark gold swimming with heat and desire. His hands wrapped around her thighs and pulled her to the edge of the table. He glided his fingers up her thighs and hooked several around the inside of her panties. His knuckles brushed her dripping sex.
“You’re soaking wet, Genevieve. Tell me, was it me that made you this way or him?” his voice told her to be careful with her answer. His knuckles slid down through her folds and she threw her head back as she moaned. “Weakness?”
“You…” she breathed.
