Introduction
I thought we would do exactly what we had promised back in that garage—take our AI healthcare startup public, ring the opening bell together, and get married.
Until today.
At the product launch that would determine whether we landed our Series A, Preston stood before the press and credited the core algorithm patent I had spent seventy-two sleepless hours developing to a girl who couldn't even write Python.
"Sloane, you're already my fiancée," he said. "Willow needs this patent to strengthen her green-card application."
Staring at his utterly self-righteous face, I felt sick.
I didn't know when it had happened, but somewhere along the way, he had rotted from the inside out.
And if he was rotten, it was time to throw him away.
Chapter 1
For five years, I had turned Preston Tanner from a broke kid who could barely afford tuition into one of Silicon Valley's hottest young founders.
Thunderous applause filled the conference room at the Stanford startup incubator, making the charade onstage even more unbearable.
Dressed in a custom-tailored suit worth tens of thousands of dollars, Preston stood beneath the spotlight like a true Silicon Valley mogul.
Behind him, the giant screen displayed the core algorithm of DeepCare, the medical AI system our team had spent three years building.
"This breakthrough wouldn't have been possible without one of the brightest researchers on our team—Willow."
Preston smiled and turned toward the first row.
Willow, dressed in a white dress with tearful eyes, covered her mouth as if overwhelmed. She stood and gave the audience a modest wave.
The screen changed.
Under Lead Inventor, one name appeared in bold:
Willow Barlow.
My name, Sloane Waverly, had been buried in the acknowledgments.
I sat in the back of the room, cold coffee in hand, watching in silence.
Three days.
I had spent three straight days in the lab fixing the final flaw in the algorithm's core logic, surviving on black coffee and energy bars.
Preston had held me from behind and promised that once the launch was over, we would go pick out wedding rings.
Five years, and there wasn't even a ring on my finger.
Yet the work I had poured everything into had been handed to another woman as if he were doing her a favor.
After the launch, only the three of us remained in the VIP lounge.
"Preston… Is Sloane going to be angry with me?" Willow bit her lip and touched his arm. "Maybe we should change the name back. I really don't deserve the patent…"
"Don't overthink it."
Preston patted her hand reassuringly before turning to me.
His expression immediately became condescending.
"Sloane, what happened onstage was just a temporary measure. Willow's visa is about to expire. She needs this patent to strengthen her immigration case. You're already the CTO. Do you really need to fight over a name on a patent?"
I stared at him without answering.
He frowned and straightened his tie.
"Everyone is counting on us to close the Series A. Can you put the company first for once? Stop making this about your ego."
The old me would have exploded.
But looking at the man who was willing to lie just to protect another woman, I found the whole thing almost laughable.
"Since you brought up the Series A…" I set down my coffee. "What are you planning to do during Apex Capital's due diligence next week? Have Willow answer questions about an algorithm she didn't write? She can't explain a single line of code in that system."
Preston's face stiffened.
"Do you really have to be this aggressive?" He spread his hands. "She doesn't understand it, but you do. Just write up the talking points for her. Sit in on the meeting and bail her out if she gets stuck. Sloane, stop being so petty."
Stop being so petty.
Five years ago, we had sat in a basement eating twelve-dollar pizza, staring at a screen full of bugs and swearing we would make history together.
He hadn't sounded like this then.
"Fine."
I stood, my expression unreadable.
"If that's what you've decided."
Preston froze.
He probably thought I would do what I had done countless times before—swallow my pride and compromise for the sake of the company.
Relief crossed his face.
He opened his arms and stepped toward me.
"I knew you'd come around. I knew you were the—"
"Don't touch me."
I stepped back, and his arms closed around nothing.
His smile vanished.
"Sloane, that's enough." He frowned, slipping into his boss voice. "Stop throwing a tantrum."
I ignored him.
I walked to the desk, pulled out my personal security key, and typed a few commands.
I hit Enter.
My account was logged out of the production environment, and every administrative privilege tied to it was revoked.
"What the hell are you doing?"
Preston's voice sharpened.
"I quit."
I slipped the security key into my bag and zipped it shut.
"And there's something else you should know."
I walked to the door, then stopped and looked back at his stunned face.
"Preston, our engagement is over. You and I are done."
I pushed open the door and walked away without looking back.
The heavy wooden door slammed shut behind me, cutting off his furious shouting.
He was too used to getting his way.
He probably thought my dramatic exit was nothing more than an empty threat.
He probably believed that as long as he secured the first-inventor credit, he could use me to keep this technology—the golden ticket to tens of millions in funding—firmly in Willow's hands.
But he had forgotten one crucial detail.
I was the one who built its core architecture, one line of code at a time.

My Perverse: You're mine, you son of a bitch
Vincenzo Valentini is a man who sees the world as a business counter and human beings as merchandise.
The owner of an empire built upon corpses and submission, he is the reflection of pure perversity.
When fate places Andrew Thompson, the son of his greatest rival, into his hands, the plan was simple: use him, break him, and discard him like a toy that has lost its appeal.
What Vincenzo did not expect was that, beneath the youthful skin and the appearance of innocence, Andrew hid the same abyss as he did.
Vincenzo never wanted redemption. He never wanted someone to save him from his own darkness. He was seeking a mirror. And in Andrew, he found the partner who, upon seeing his blood-stained hands, does not recoil in terror, but trembles with desire.
In this perverse game, the "little toy" proves to be the perfect executioner. The mafia leader found someone who not only accepts his cruel side but cultivates it, feeding the monster Vincenzo has always been.
Where there should have been fear, lust emerged. Where there should have been hatred, a perverse loyalty was born. Andrew Thompson is the dark reflection of Vincenzo, the soldier the underworld did not see coming, and the man who proved that, for some, paradise only makes sense if it is in the middle of chaos.
Vincenzo opened the doors to his empire, but Andrew was the only one capable of invading his heart.
They are not heroes. They are hell on earth.

.
"I’m keeping her."
"What?"
Before I can react, he scoops her up. Her small body fits easily in the cradle of his talons. For a split second, she looks startled, but not afraid. Her hand rests against one scaled finger, and she stares up at him with that same curious wonder, as though she’s already forgotten she was ever meant to fear me.
"Put her down," I try to command, panic threading through my thoughts. "You’ll hurt her."
"She’s ours," the beast insists, possessive and fierce. "Our snowflake."
