I Died the Day He Chose Her
Piper Hayes · Completed · 7.1k Words
Introduction
The first time was three years ago. His brother died saving him, leaving behind his widow Sophia—Ryan's unforgettable first love. He married her behind my back. When I found out, I completely fell apart. I have dignity. I refuse to be the other woman. I wanted to leave, but he begged on his knees. "This is just to take care of my sister-in-law. Once I find the truth about my brother's death, I'll divorce her. Then we can get married."
I believed him. I forgot that a man never lets go of a lost love he's gotten back.
The second time was at last year's company anniversary. In front of everyone, he introduced Sophia as his wife. I watched them on stage, a knife through my heart. That night he explained, "It's just for show. Once everything's over, we can be together."
I believed him again.
The third time was two weeks ago. Surveillance footage showed Ryan with Sophia entering a hotel room. I rushed to confront him, but heard her voice outside his office. "Ryan, I'm pregnant. It's your baby."
Through the crack in the door, I see him hesitate. In that instant I understand.
He's going to keep her.
He spots me and rushes out in a panic. "It was an accident! Let me explain! After she has the baby, I'll give her money and make her leave. She won't be in our lives anymore!"
In that moment, I finally wake up. There will be no future for us.
Chapter 1
Claire's POV
Ten years. Everyone says Ryan and I are a match made in heaven. High school sweethearts who stayed together through college, building our lives together after graduation. He built a successful business while I quit my job to fully support him. Whenever anyone asks about the wedding, he just says, "Soon. Once the company's more stable."
I've been waiting for ten years. From twenty to thirty, from a bright-eyed girl to the woman people pity behind her back: "Such a shame she's still not married."
But I don't care, because I believe he loves me.
Until that afternoon when a friend forwarded me a video—security camera footage showing him with his arm around a woman, entering a hotel. I rushed to his office to confront him. Outside his door, I hear her voice.
Sophia—Ryan's sister-in-law and his first love.
Four years ago, Ryan's brother died in a car accident saving him. Since then, she's been an inescapable shadow in his life. He says it's guilt, responsibility, a promise to his brother. I understand. I compromise. I accept her being part of our lives for all sorts of reasons.
After all, she's his sister-in-law. What right do I have to complain?
But now, through the crack in the door, I hear her say: "Ryan, I'm pregnant. It's your baby. I'm keeping it."
He hesitates. In that instant, everything becomes clear. He's choosing her.
In that moment, the truth finally hits me. He never planned to marry me. Or rather, he's been waiting—waiting for an excuse to make Sophia his.
Now that reason has arrived. There's no future for us.
I turn to leave, but I must make a sound.
Ryan rushes out in a panic, grabbing my wrist, about to explain.
But before he can say anything, I hear Sophia's weak cry from inside the office.
"Ryan... my stomach hurts..."
His expression changes instantly. He drops me and rushes back inside. I instinctively try to follow, but hear his anxious voice: "Where does it hurt? Is the baby moving? I'm taking you to the hospital right now!"
"It's all my fault for being careless..." Sophia's voice sounds weak and pitiful. "Don't let Claire worry. I'm fine..."
Ryan isn't paying attention to me anymore. He scoops up Sophia and rushes out, shoving right past me. I slam against the hallway wall, my shoulder screaming in pain.
He doesn't even look back as he runs toward the elevator, just throwing out: "Sophia's health is what matters. We'll talk about this later!"
So in his heart, I mean nothing compared to her.
I clutch my shoulder as I walk out of the building. Once I get in my car, I finally break down. Tears hit the steering wheel as I bite my lip to keep from sobbing out loud.
I have to leave. But Ryan won't let me go. His need for control is too strong. He'll chase me to the ends of the earth.
I remember that woman I met a few months ago. She told me about an organization that helps women like me who are trapped. Back then I thought I didn't need it. Now I realize it's my only way out.
I dial the number.
"Are you sure?" The voice on the other end is calm. "Everything from your past—your identity, your records, your social media presence—will be completely erased. From that point on, you'll be someone else."
I grip the phone tighter: "I'm sure."
By the time I get back to the villa, it's already dark.
Our photos hang on the bedroom wall. Our first date, my birthday, every anniversary... In every single picture, Ryan's smile looks so tender, as if I really am his whole world.
I tear them down one by one, only ripping off my half. Let him live with these broken memories and regret it.
On the vanity sit the promise rings he gave me. I pick mine up and flush it down the toilet. Those limited edition bags, the custom jewelry—I stuff them one by one into garbage bags. These things used to be proof of his love. Now they're just a mockery.
While I'm still packing, I hear a car pull up downstairs.
I take a deep breath and head down. I have to keep up the act. Can't let him notice anything's wrong.
At the door, Ryan is helping Sophia inside. She's changed into a pale pink dress that makes her face look even more pallid. Behind them, bodyguards carry shopping bags.
"You really shouldn't have bought me so much," Sophia says sweetly. "You're spending too much."
"As long as you like it." Ryan's tone is gentler than I've ever heard it. "When a pregnant woman's happy, it's good for the baby too."
When they see me, Sophia immediately looks concerned: "Ryan, you should pay more attention to Miss Bennett too. Don't just focus on me."
I smile coldly: "Don't worry about me."
Ryan opens his mouth to say something, but Sophia rubs her eyes at just the right moment: "I'm a little tired. I'd like to rest for a bit."
"Oh, right." Ryan turns to me, his tone matter-of-fact. "I'm going to have Sophia stay here from now on. She'll take the master bedroom. You can use the guest room. Her health is important right now, and it's easier to take care of her if she's here."
My nails dig into my palms.
Before this, no matter what, he'd never brought her home to spend the night. That was our last boundary, the only shred of dignity I had left. But now he's not even leaving me that.
Ryan helps Sophia toward the master bedroom. She glances back at me, her eyes full of naked triumph.
Their backs side by side stab at my eyes. They look like the real owners of this house, while I'm just some outsider being kept here out of charity.

How Not To Fall For A Dragon
Which is why it was more than a little confusing when a letter arrived with my name already printed on a schedule, a dorm waiting, and classes picked out as if someone knew me better than I knew myself. Everyone knows the Academy, it’s where witches sharpen their spells, shifters master their forms, and every kind of magical creature learns to control their gifts.
Everyone except me.
I don’t even know what I am. No shifting, no magic tricks, nothing. Just a girl surrounded by people who can fly, conjure fire, or heal with a touch. So I sit through classes pretending I belong, and I listen hard for any clue that might tell me what’s hidden in my blood.
The only person more curious than me is Blake Nyvas, tall, golden-eyed, and very much a Dragon. People whisper that he’s dangerous, warn me to keep my distance. But Blake seems determined to solve the mystery of me, and somehow I trust him more than anyone else.
Maybe it’s reckless. Maybe it’s dangerous.
But when everyone else looks at me like I don’t belong, Blake looks at me like I’m a riddle worth solving.

A pack of their own
The Pack: Rule Number 1 - No Mates
"Let me go," I whimper, my body trembling with need. "I don't want you touching me."
I fall forward onto the bed then turn around to stare at him. The dark tattoos of Domonic's chiseled shoulders, quiver and and expand with the heave of his chest. His deep dimpled smile is full of arrogance as he reaches behind himself to lock the door.
Biting his lip, he stalks toward me, his hand going to the seam of his pants and the thickening bulge there.
"Are you sure you don't want me to touch you?" He whispers, untying the knot and slipping a hand inside. "Because I swear to God, that is all I have been wanting to do. Every single day from the moment you stepped in our bar and I smelled your perfect flavor from across the room."
New to the world of shifters, Draven is human on the run. A beautiful girl who no one could protect. Domonic is the cold Alpha of the Red Wolf Pack. A brotherhood of twelve wolves that live by twelve rules. Rules which they vowed could NEVER be broken.

But she doesn’t know about the child she’s carrying or that the moment she left, Domonic decided rules were made to be broken - and now will he ever find her again? Will she forgive him?
The Human Among Wolves
My stomach twisted, but he wasn’t finished.
"You're just a pathetic little human," Zayn said, his words deliberate, each one hitting like a slap. "Spreading your legs for the first guy who bothers to notice you."
Heat rushed to my face, burning with humiliation. My chest ached — not from his words alone, but from the sick realization that I had trusted him. That I had let myself believe he was different.
I was so, so stupid.

Rise of the Banished She-Wolf
That roar stole my eighteenth birthday and shattered my world. My first shift should have been glory—blood turned blessing into shame. By dawn they'd branded me "cursed": cast out by my pack, abandoned by family, stripped of my nature. My father didn't defend me—he sent me to a forsaken island where wolfless outcasts were forged into weapons, forced to kill each other until only one could leave.
On that island I learned the darkest edges of humanity and how to bury terror in bone. Countless times I wanted to surrender—dive into the waves and never surface—but the accusing faces that haunted my dreams pushed me back toward something colder than survival: revenge. I escaped, and for three years I hid among humans, collecting secrets, learning to move like a shadow, sharpening patience into precision—becoming a blade.
Then, under a full moon, I touched a bleeding stranger—and my wolf returned with a violence that made me whole. Who was he? Why could he wake what I'd thought dead?
One thing I know: now is the time.
I have waited three years for this. I will make everyone who destroyed me pay—and take back everything that was stolen from me.
Invisible To Her Bully
Falling For The Biker: The Vice President's Girl
His eyes darken, flicking to my mouth.
"It's wrong. Your brother would slit my throat for just standing this close. But tell me, little bird" his breath ghosts my skin, "are you trembling because you hate me… or because you've wanted this just as much as I have?"
Wren thought she'd buried the chaos of New Orleans for good—the clubs, the blood-soaked loyalties, the men who lived and died by their kuttes. Seattle gave her everything she ever wanted: freedom, love, a future.
But one betrayal shatters it all.
Dragged home by tragedy, Wren finds herself under the watchful eye of Ezra Jax—the Raven Reapers MC's vice president and her brother's best friend. He's infuriating, dangerous, and far too tempting for a man she should never touch.
And the deeper Wren is pulled back into his world, the more she realizes nothing about her past—or about Ezra—is what she believed.
In the chaos of gang wars, mounting debts, and old betrayals, he becomes the one constant. The more she fights him, the harder she falls. And the more he pushes her away, the more lethal his pull becomes.
Because in this world, love isn't sweet.
It's brutal. Bloody.
And it's bound to break them both.
When loyalty is everything and love can cost your life, will Wren risk her heart on the one man she was never meant to love?
