Introduction
As she struggles to recover from the wounds of rejection and he faces the collapse of everything he once held secure, an undeniable pull grows stronger between them. Passion and resentment war within their hearts, creating a storm where love and anger collide. Each must confront the choice of clinging to bitterness or opening themselves to the possibility of healing. This is a world alive with forbidden emotions, unbreakable bonds, and a romance born from pain. It is a tale that shows how the heart may follow a path laid out by fate, even when the mind rebels and refuses to accept it.
Chapter 1
Anna's POV
Sitting with my friends, we all are talking about our mates and how we are going to be the happiest werewolves in the state, but not all of us will be happy. Some of us find our mates, but they don't always want us. My name is Anna Webster, and this is my story and my heartbreak. My mate Derek North didn't want me or even the idea of me. He rejected me and stayed with his girlfriend of two years, Ellie Moore. I went home crying and stayed in my room till my mother forced me out.
"What happened, baby?" she asked, concerned when I burst into tears again. I've been like this for days now. Not able to do anything else but cry and lie in bed in pain. A horrible pain that lets me know they were fucking.
"He rejected me, Mama. He never wanted me," I burst into sobs all over again.
"Oh, baby, I'm sorry," she said, kissing my forehead and rocking me in her arms. I sobbed hard as she held me. My father stood off to the side, anger rolling off of him. His daughter was hurt beyond what any werewolf should be. Derek stayed with his longtime girlfriend, and I was hurt, alone, and a complete mess.
I couldn't eat or sleep right. I even lost weight over this—a lot of weight I couldn't afford to lose. Every time they had sex, I screamed in pain alone in the middle of the woods. I didn't want my parents to hear me, so as soon as the sharp pains hit, I ran into the middle of the woods, collapsed, and screamed in pain till it was over.
"Can I please go stay with Aunt Mary?" I begged, dissolving into tears again. My mother sighed sadly. I needed to leave to get some type of relief; if not, when he marked her, I would most likely die.
"You can't, baby; you're almost finished with school," she tried to soothe. I sighed sadly, looking at her. We lived amongst humans, and they didn't know about us yet, so me missing school was out of the question. I whimpered sadly as I lay in her arms trying to get some comfort. My begging managed to get me Monday and Tuesday off, but the rest of the week I would have to suck it up and go. I stayed in bed both days and only dragged myself through the rest of the week. Derek made it a point to kiss and make out with her every chance he got in front of me. I went home in tears every day. He knew how much it hurt, and he did it anyway.
"Baby, are you okay?" Mom asked one night at dinner as I pushed my food around on my plate. I lied; I was getting really good at it.
"Fine, Mama," I replied, pushing my food around more. I felt totally alone and totally worthless. The last week of school was here, and I officially couldn't wait to leave this pack. The alpha granted me permission, so I was leaving the last day. Derek wasn't alpha yet, so his dad granted me my leave. I was happy to be able to get away and be free, or so I thought. A knock had Dad going for the door while I packed my stuff up.
"Baby, you've got visitors," he said, kissing my head. No, I don't want visitors; I just want to leave, the sooner the better.
"Okay," I mumbled, going to see who was here. Derek stood with his dad, and my heart sank as both looked at me. Oh no, please.
"Hi, Anna," the alpha said gently, looking at my face, which I can imagine looks like shit. I had dark circles under my eyes, and I looked like I was starving to death.
"Hi, Alpha," I responded, bowing. I knew deep down why he was here, but I played dumb.
"I came to talk to my child. "Can we sit?" he asked. He stared at my face and sighed sadly.
"Of course, Alpha," I motioned to the couch. We all sat, and he sighed, clearly frustrated with stuff. I looked at him, waiting, and the next words almost made me flip out and flee the room.
"It came to our attention you're our son's mate," he stated, watching me. I looked down as my whole body sagged.
"Yes, Alpha, it's true," I said, looking at my fingers. I couldn't make eye contact for fear of the pity I would see. He knew they had sex all the time and how much it was destroying me.
"It also came to our attention that he rejected you for that girl," he said, sounding annoyed. I nodded as he looked at me, barely holding a growl. His wolf was pissed. As a pack member, alphas take pride in running great packmates, accepting mates, and reproducing heirs. They don't reject or hurt their soulmate for someone else.
"Yes, Alpha," he stated, "they've been together for years, and he couldn't leave her." I added feeling sad that for years they messed around and I felt pain. I was still a virgin, saving myself for him.
"Well, the moon goddess and the elders ordered him to be with you, and if not, Ellie will die," he said, making my head snap up and my eyes widen in surprise. I was completely shocked. What the fuck?
"Come on, Dad," Derek hissed, speaking for the first time since they arrived.
"We follow the rules, Derek, and you never reject your mate," he said in an angry voice. He was pissed; we could all feel it.
"But I love Ellie, Dad, and we want to be together forever," he fumed, sounding like a little kid about to throw a tantrum.
"You have a mate, Derek, and you're being with her," Alpha said, looking at him. He was fighting a shift; I could feel it. Alpha was mad because once we accepted each other, Derek became alpha.
"I don't want her, Dad; I want Ellie, and if you force me to be with her, I will not be true to her," he hissed. Of course he wasn't true; he fucked her after rejecting me just to hurt me more. They were going at it all the damn time.
"You will, or I will personally kill Ellie right in front of you, and I won't feel bad about it at all," he added. My eyes were huge as Alpha glared at his son, just waiting to do what he threatened.
My mouth dropped open in shock as Derek glared at us both. I just sighed, knowing I was stuck with a terrible fate.
A mate that never wanted me to begin with. A mate that chose another, and I couldn't do shit about it.
I was a second choice and would never be picked first.
At this moment I hated them both.

The Human Among Wolves
My stomach twisted, but he wasn’t finished.
"You're just a pathetic little human," Zayn said, his words deliberate, each one hitting like a slap. "Spreading your legs for the first guy who bothers to notice you."
Heat rushed to my face, burning with humiliation. My chest ached — not from his words alone, but from the sick realization that I had trusted him. That I had let myself believe he was different.
I was so, so stupid.
