MY FAMILIAR IS THE DEMON LORD
Elizabeth iruonagbe · Ongoing · 30.9k Words
Introduction
I don't worship him. I hand him a dish towel.
Turns out summoning the Demon Lord with the wrong herbs on an empty stomach has consequences nobody warns you about...namely, he's stuck here. Cottage-bound. Mine, apparently, until I die or let him go, and I'm not in a hurry to do either, because it turns out a six-and-a-half-foot ancient horror is surprisingly good at washing dishes once you threaten him with a chore chart.
He expected fear. He got a to-do list.
He expected a throne. He got a stool by the fire and a cat that hates him.
Between village gossip, a market stall he refuses to admit he enjoys, and a kitchen that keeps doing strange, warm, impossible things whenever he's standing too close to me, I'm starting to suspect there's more to this binding than bad luck with the sage.
But that's a problem for another day. Today there's bread to bake, wards to fix, and a Demon Lord sulking in my pantry because I told him the apron was non-negotiable.
Slow burn. Grumpy meets sunshine. One tiny cottage, nowhere to run, and a love neither of us asked for... but neither of us wants to release.
Chapter 1
I shouldn't have been doing magic on an empty stomach.
That’s rule number one at the Academy. Rule two is don't cast spells when you're pissed off, and rule three is don't do it when you're both. I was breaking all three at six in the morning, standing in my kitchen with flour up to my elbows and a terrible mood, all because Mrs. Abernathy's orange cat broke into my garden again and ate every last bit of my warding rosemary.
"Fine," I muttered, scraping the chalk across the floorboards way harder than I needed to. "Fine. We'll use sage. It's basically the same thing."
It wasn't. I knew that. But I was exhausted, broke, and running on three cups of coffee and zero food.
The protective spells on my shop had been dying all week. Yesterday a raccoon strolled right through the front door and stole a jar of enchanted honey. I had to fix the wards today, or Old Man Faron would tell the whole village my charms were useless, nobody would buy anything from me, and I’d starve to death in a cottage full of unsold tea.
So. Sage instead of rosemary. Extra moonwater because I was too lazy to measure it. And I rushed the words because my hands were shaking from all the caffeine.
The chalk line didn't glow. It let out this awful, high-pitched screech like ripping metal, and the room flashed blindingly white. I actually thought, great, I just killed myself with a tea spell, right before the light collapsed and a guy materialized in the middle of my kitchen floor.
A guy who definitely didn't belong there.
He was massive...so tall his broad shoulders blocked out half the room. He wore a dark, heavy coat, and the temperature in the kitchen spiked instantly, like standing next to an open oven. His eyes were this intense, molten gold, locked right on me.
"Kneel," he growled. His voice was deep enough to make the floorboards vibrate under my feet.
I didn't kneel. Mostly because I was holding a bowl of sage and didn't want to drop it, but also because I was still trying to process the sheer size of him.
"Excuse me?" I said.
"Kneel," he repeated, taking a step forward. He completely shadowed me. "You summoned the Demon Lord. Kneel, mortal, name your price, and beg for forgiveness for dragging me here."
I just stared at him. He was breathing heavily, his chest rising and falling, looking like he expected me to drop to the floor sobbing.
When I didn't move, his expression cracked a little.
"I was just trying to fix my wards," I said.
"You..." He paused, his eyebrows pulling together. "You were what?"
"My shop wards." I pointed at the chalk circle with my wooden spoon. "I ran out of rosemary. A cat ate it."
"A cat."
"Mrs. Abernathy's cat. He’s a nightmare, honestly..."
"I am the Demon Lord," he interrupted, stepping closer. The air between us was thick with the smell of ozone and crushed herbs. "I am Malachar."
"Right. Well, Malakor..."
"Malachar" he growled, his voice dropping low.
"Right. Look, I’ve got about four minutes before my bread burns, so if you could just..." I waved a hand at the circle. "Head back home. Thanks for stopping by."
I said the dismissal spell. The basic one I've used a hundred times for minor kitchen imps. The spell that was supposed to send six-and-a-half feet of trouble straight back to wherever he came from.
Nothing happened.
I cleared my throat and said it again, slower this time.
Still nothing. He didn't move an inch. Instead, he stepped closer, towering over me until I had to tilt my head back to look at him. Up close, his golden eyes were terrifying, his mouth set in a hard, annoyed line.
"That's not going to work," he said, his voice rough.
He raised a large hand and pressed his palm against the air right above the chalk line. His fingers hit something invisible, stopping hard, like a sheet of glass. A few red sparks snapped where his skin touched the air, lighting up his jaw and the dark, curved horns pushing out of his hairline.
"What do you mean it won't work?" My stomach dropped.
"I mean," he said, looking down at me, his eyes flicking to my lips for a fast second before snapping back to my eyes, "I'm stuck."
My mouth went completely dry. "That's not possible."
He pressed both hands flat against the invisible wall, his jaw clenching so hard a muscle flexed in his cheek. He looked furious, but underneath it, his golden eyes went wide with pure panic.
"Send me back," he demanded, no longer sounding like a king, but like someone who just realized he was locked in a cage. "Do it again."
I swallowed hard and stepped right up to the edge of the circle. Being this close to him felt dizzying. I could feel the heat coming off his skin, smell that dark, spicy scent on him.
I said the spell a third time. Perfect, clear, precise.
The circle didn't budge.
Instead, a sharp, warm pulse flared in the air between us. A spark shot from his skin and zapped my collarbone, sending a sudden shock down to my toes. I gasped, clutching my neck, while Malachar let out a low growl and flinched back like he'd been burned.
We stood there staring at each other, breathing hard in the quiet kitchen.
Behind me, the smell of burnt bread started filling the air. Neither of us moved.

Why does being near him make my skin feel too tight, like I’m wearing a sweater two sizes too small?

This is Tyler’s family.
I’m not going to let one cold stare undo that.

I hate girls like her.
Entitled.
Delicate.
And still—
Still.
The image of her standing in the doorway, clutching her cardigan tighter around her narrow shoulders, trying to smile through the awkwardness, won’t leave me.
Neither does the memory of Tyler. Leaving her here without a second thought.
I shouldn’t care.
I don’t care.
It’s not my problem if Tyler’s an idiot.
It’s not my business if some spoiled little princess has to walk home in the dark.
I’m not here to rescue anyone.

For a price.
Now I’m bound by a faerie bargain and navigating a world of glamour, manipulation, and ancient rules I definitely should have learned sooner, enchanted forests, political games, magical contracts, and a fae lord who treats seduction like a perfectly reasonable negotiation tactic.
Iron is how I keep people out.
Glamour is how he draws them in.
And apparently, they just don’t mix.

Tango 2 the Alpha's Heart
My gaze snapped to his. He was smiling, causing my heart to skip a painful beat. Before I could respond, the music began, and my body instinctively reacted to the sweet melody.
I found myself molded to Lex's will, my feet irresistibly following the dance steps.
The crowd gasped as Lex pulled me into a more intimate position, his hands roaming over my body in a seductive manner.
The experience was both terrifying and magical, allowing me to feel every longing emotion through the dance.
I soon found myself lost in his arms.
When the music finally stopped, my arms were wrapped around his neck, his hands resting on my back, our noses almost touching. He gazed deeply into my eyes.
The ballroom fell silent.
Was he about to kiss me?

My Perverse: You're mine, you son of a bitch
Vincenzo Valentini is a man who sees the world as a business counter and human beings as merchandise.
The owner of an empire built upon corpses and submission, he is the reflection of pure perversity.
When fate places Andrew Thompson, the son of his greatest rival, into his hands, the plan was simple: use him, break him, and discard him like a toy that has lost its appeal.
What Vincenzo did not expect was that, beneath the youthful skin and the appearance of innocence, Andrew hid the same abyss as he did.
Vincenzo never wanted redemption. He never wanted someone to save him from his own darkness. He was seeking a mirror. And in Andrew, he found the partner who, upon seeing his blood-stained hands, does not recoil in terror, but trembles with desire.
In this perverse game, the "little toy" proves to be the perfect executioner. The mafia leader found someone who not only accepts his cruel side but cultivates it, feeding the monster Vincenzo has always been.
Where there should have been fear, lust emerged. Where there should have been hatred, a perverse loyalty was born. Andrew Thompson is the dark reflection of Vincenzo, the soldier the underworld did not see coming, and the man who proved that, for some, paradise only makes sense if it is in the middle of chaos.
Vincenzo opened the doors to his empire, but Andrew was the only one capable of invading his heart.
They are not heroes. They are hell on earth.
Taste of Fate: The Vampire King's Human Mate
He reached for the back of my head and pulled me up just enough to reach my neck. When his fangs slid into me, the pain was instant, electric. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t think. My hands found his shoulders, clawing for something to hold. My legs kicked. Tears streamed down my cheeks.
He moaned against my throat as he drank, and the sound was devastating.
