Chapter 1
PRELUDE
THE ENTIRE forest of Flordenilla was dark and silent. Only the moonlight provides the light in the entire place and only thick clouds partially block the moon and no stars. It can also hear the chirping of insects found only at night. The wind was also cold, which had a strange chill to it, but Dakota didn't care about that.
Dakota was still smiling as she watched her friend Willow happily paddle along the side of the stream.
"You're so happy to be in the water again, Willow," she told her friend.
Willow turned to her and her beautiful face became slightly serious. "You don't want to stay at home because you don't want to party, do you? So, come on. Join me here!"
Dakota just shook her head and looked up at the wide sky. She thought about the party that was happening now at their home even though she wasn't there. She took a deep breath and put her feet in the water.
Meanwhile, a man was gasping for breath while continuing to run through a part of the forest. His whole body was sweating and his face showed fear. He kept looking around as if he was checking to see if someone had followed him. It can also be seen on its face that it is hurting from wounds in different parts of his body. Even with difficulty running, the man still trying to get away from a ferocious wolf.
He stopped for a moment to catch his breath. He still held his chest and looked up. After a while he continued running again. He could almost hear the strong beating of his heart and it seemed like it was about to come out.
The man stopped running when he reached the very center of the forest. The area is wide and there are only a few trees. He swallowed. Again he turned back to where he came from and caught his breath. He didn't know where else to hide or if the sun would shine on him the next day. He was afraid for himself.
He suddenly turned his head somewhere when he heard a rustling of plants. He was sweating profusely now. He stepped away from there but he was just shocked when suddenly a wolf pounced on his body. He screamed and kept asking for help but he knew that no one could help him at that time.
Even though he was burdened and terrified, he forced himself to look at the furious wolf. The wolf's eyes are a mixture of violet and black. The man groaned as the wolf's paws with long claws dug into his chest and buried him slightly. The wolf howled.
"Get away from me. Let go of me!" Even though it was difficult to speak, he insisted on doing that. He knew the wolf would understand him. But the wolf growled even more causing the teeth to come out.
Later, the wolf suddenly grabbed him from his body at the same time as it abducted his heart. The man let out a loud scream before he suffocated and died.
Because of that scream that came from nowhere, Dakota stopped and looked at Willow. Both of them were stunned by the water playing in the stream.
"What was that? Did you hear that too?" she asked her friend.
Willow nodded. "Yes. What could that be?" Willow's face showed fear.
Dakota grabbed the hem of her white dress and carefully climbed out of the water. She kept looking everywhere because there might be someone else there. The worry in her chest also rose and she wondered who shouted.
"Where are you going, Dakota?" Willow asked. "Let's go back to the house.” Willow said softly as she climbed out of the stream.
Dakota signaled to her friend not to make any noise and slowly walked somewhere. Willow was just careful to follow her.
After a while they reached the middle of the forest. On the big rock in the middle, Dakota saw something. She looked at Willow who was also behind her, and eyes widened. Dakota focused her attention on the enormous chunk of rock in the center. She saw someone lying on that side of the rock.
Even though she was nervous, Dakota slowly approached it. It startled her to see the body of a man. Based on what it was wearing, it was a hunter, but Dakota was even more surprised to see a hole in its chest. There is blood flowing from the hunter's chest onto the ground. Dakota's eyes blinked when she noticed that the man's chest had no heart.
She covered her mouth with her hands when she look at the man’s face. Dakota turned to Willow who was now shocked at what she was seeing. Dakota can't be wrong. The lifeless hunter in front of them now and the man who killed her mother were one and the same. She can't be wrong because she herself is the reason why he has a big scar on his face. Dakota was the one who did it when she caught him and stopped herself from killing the man. Mixed emotions arose in Dakota. She panicked and was angry with this man but she knew something was wrong. Yes, she had wanted revenge on the man who killed her mother for a long time but not in this way. This is wrong.
Now that the hunter was in front of her and lifeless, she remember what her mother told her.
‘Do not let evil reign in the heart of every member of the group.’
Tears welled up in her eyes when she remembered her mother before she died.
Dakota just stopped thinking about it when she and Willow heard footsteps approaching where they were. Using her sense of smell, she was sure that those coming were also wolves. They immediately left and hid behind a big tree. Her heart beat very fast. Dakota carefully peeked out to observe the new comers. She is right. They were werewolves like them and she knew them.
It was Demon with the other packs of wolves.
"Dakota, what are we going to do? Let's go back home. They might even see us." It can see the fear and dread on Willow's face.
They were both sweating. They don't even know what to do. Their hands are now holding each other tightly.
UNTIL THEY both got home, Dakota and Willow were still shaking. Maybe it was because they saw a lifeless man. Aside from fear, Dakota is also wondering who could have done such a thing. What can be the reason? Could it be that one of their colleagues killed the hunter? But that is very impossible. Everyone in Flordenilla knows that one of them is not allowed to kill anyone. That was one of his father's rules. As long as possible, her father wants Flordenilla to remain peaceful and happy.
Even when she was inside her room, she was still thinking. Dakota couldn't get the look of the dead hunter out of her mind either. She closed her palms tightly in frustration. She doesn't know if she will be happy that her mother's killer is gone or not.
Dakota wanted to punish him more properly and not to kill him like that. Too violent.
"Drink some water first," Willow said and handed Dakota a glass full of water. Even though Willow didn't speak, she was obviously still scared because her hands were shaking.
She accepted it and drank until she had half of the water. "Thank you."
After Willow placed the glass on the nightstand, she returned to Dakota’s side and sat on the edge of the bed. "What are you thinking?"
Dakota shook her head. "I don't know yet. All I have in mind is a lot of questions, Willow. Who could have done it and why? What is the reason?”
She looked down at her arm but was just as surprised when she noticed that the bracelet that her mother had given her was no longer there. Dakota immediately stood up and looked on the floor to see if it had fallen but she didn't see anything.
"Why?" Willow asked.
"My bracelet is missing, Willow."
Willow's eyes widened. "What bracelet? The one your mom gave you?"
"Yes. Let's find it." They looked for the bracelet together, causing them to both forget about the hunter who was killed in the forest earlier.
