Chapter 1
"Falling in love with you was not a choice but continuing to love you is a choice, I left when I had the choice. I am glad I didnt wait until you broke me."
"The worst day of my life, the day my whole life came crashing down. I wish I didn’t have to wake up to witness this.
My day starts with visiting my father, I took a quick shower and wore my clothes. I checked my laptop one more time to see if I got any email. I lost my jobs a couple of months ago, it has being rough I have being living off my savings.
I’m trying to get a job, I applied for a couple of companies, my boyfriend has being supportive we have being dating for a year now, he is my rock. I applied in his dad’s company and he assured me I will get the job, any girl that has dalton is a lucky one.
I smiled when I got out of my room.
A voice speaks interrupting my thoughts. I twirl around and I was met by my roommate and best friend Tessa.
“Where are you going?.”
“Dad.” I say and she nods.
“I have to go to work, tell him I said hi. I will be back soon.” She says and I smile.
Tessa and I started living together a year ago about the same amount of time I met Dalton, she has being a supportive friend, I haven’t being able to pay rent and she covered it for me. She has being a good friend I don’t know what I would do without her.
My father is the only family I have. He got diagnosed with cancer a couple of years ago, I have being trying to pay his bills, his retirement savings paid for almost half of his treatment but we needed more.
“Dad.” I say hugging him, he looked paler than the last time I saw him, I hate the fact he has to go through this every single day, I hate how he is always in pain, I wish he could be treated and get rid of this pain once and for all.
I always tried to be happy around him, I know how hard this is for him.
“You have grown bigger.” Dad says and I laugh.
“You saw me last week Dad. I haven’t added much.”
I always try and meet dad every chance I had and now with no work I see him more often than I always do, I wanted to work very hard so I would be able to take him to a bigger hospital and maybe have enough money to hire a nurse for him so I could take him home. I know he can’t remember the last time he went home.
He always wanted to sell the house but I didn’t let him, that house held so many memories maybe some were bad, but there was good and I know the good memories we created will over the old memories.
“Daddy you need to finish it.”
“I’m tired of eating it, it’s always the same.” Dad complained.
The same old salad everyday for the past two years, I gave him a weak smile.
“For me.” I smile and he nods.
I’m the only child of my parents, my mom left us two year ago, I didn’t know why neither did dad, dad and I went out for dinner leaving mom home because she said she was sick and insisted we go since we planned it for a long while.
We came back home and she wasn’t there, her bags, everything was gone, we thought someone took her until dad found her note.
She left us, dad started smoking a lot and it hurt his lungs, she did this to us. She broke our perfect family so she could live with another man.
I wish she didn’t do that, we would have lived as a family.
“Dalton is fine, tonight is our one year anniversary.”
“When is he putting a ring on your finger.” Dad asks and I smile.
“It’s just being a year dad, we still have some couple of years before we get married.”
“I don’t, I want to see you married before I die.”
“We have talked about this, you are not dying, I don’t like it when you speak like that. I don’t dad.” I muttered.
He doesn’t have the hopes of being alive, he believes he will die in the hospital but I know he will be fine, he has gotten better over the year and I know he would be back on his feet.
“Do you remember when we played in the garden and you fell.”
“You cried because you thought something happened to daddy.”
“And you pretended like you were unconscious which made me scared.” I say and he laughs.
“I love you dad, I know you will be fine.” I say and he nods.
I stayed longer with him to watch our favorite movie, it’s the least I could do. I know how lonely he gets when I leave, I wish I could stay with him but I know one day I will.
I am hoping to get a job at multi dollar company, the pay is very good. I would have applied for a job at Dalton’s company but he didn’t want to mix work with relationship.
Dalton is a multi billionaire, after his father died he inherited his company and all his money as he is the only child.
I met Dalton when I started working at my old job, he saw me first and came to talk to me after we went on a couple of date we became official. I fell in love with him, he is my best friend, he listens and cares for me.
“I have to leave Dad but I promise I will be back tomorrow.” I say kissing his cheek and he nods.
While walking out the doctor stops me.
“Can we talk?.”
This doesn’t end well.
“We have to go for a surgery,”
“A surgery, you said he is getting better.”
“The tumor increased last night, we have to take him in for surgery or it will only get worse. We don’t want a situation where we won’t be able to terminate the tumor.”
“I understand doctor. I will raise the funds this week.”
“I know it’s not easy Victoria but he will be fine.”
“I hope so.” I muttered against my breath.
I know how much the surgery cost, I didn’t have any of that and I needed to find money before the week ends, I still had the Sunday the week just started.
I can’t let anything happen to Dad, he is the only one I have. If anything happens to him it would break my heart, I will be shattered.
I felt the tears brimming down my cheek, I wipe my tears, I take a seat on the chair outside the hospital.
Why is this happening to us? I wish mom didn’t leave.
I let out a breath calming myself down, I know someone who can help me. I quickly take out my phone and call Dalton. I have never asked him for money I always wanted to do this on my own, he always offered to pay though but I hate being indebted to someone, this has to to do with when mom left.
He picks on the first call.
“Babe.” My voice was cracking, I was trying to calm myself down.
“Are you alright?.”
“It’s Dad, I need to pay for his surgery or it’s going to get worse.”
“Where are you?.” He asks and I tell him. “I will be there.”
I will pay him back even if he won’t want that, it’s something I want to do. I wiped my tears and sat waiting for him.
If I had gotten a job I would have been able to pay, I had some side hustles but everything went down the drain few months ago.
“I promise I will pay you back.” I say to Dalton.
“You don’t have to.” He say and I smile.
Dalton is the sweetest person I have ever met, he always tries to be there for me, he always tries to spoil me with gift and I always make sure to do the same. He deserves all the happiness he can get.
I’m lucky to have him in my life.
“They are starting the surgery tonight.” I say.
“Don’t worry about the dinner, we can do it tomorrow night.” He says and I nod, I kiss him on the lips.
Dalton and I haven’t gone far sexually, I have always being nervous and dad wanted to make sure Dalton wants to be with me and not want me for sex. I wanted to gift him myself this night and I know that will make him very happy but plans has being changed.
He wanted to stay with me but he got a call from his office and he had to leave.
The surgery is a two hours surgery and I want to here when dad wakes up, a familiar face is what he needs.
I text Sara my friend and roommate telling her I will be back late.
I sit by the chair while they go in for surgery, after two hours they get back.
“How did it go doctor?.” I ask and he smiles.
“He will be fine.” The doctor says and I felt a wave of relief rush down my spine.
I know what dad would like, he always hates the salads the hospital has, maybe I could get him his favorite chicken salad from his favorite restaurant.
Before I got to the restaurant I realize I forgot my purse at home, fuck and I made the mistake of leaving my charger at home. The restaurant is not far from home so I decided to go home.
Maybe I shouldn’t have, the door was open I didn’t have to use my key, I walked in and the living room was empty but it had candles all around.
Sara has a guest. I am used to her bringing her one night stand into the house, she usually plays loud music so I won't hear anything but this time It wasn't the case.
Taking my purse and charger, I was about leaving when I heard a voice. The voice sounded familiar.
My chest tightened when I recognize the voice, maybe I’m hallucinating. She could be watching an old vidoe of Dalton and I, I know how much she shipped us.
I stroll toward her door and open the door when I saw my worst nightmare. It was her and Dalton wrapped around each other arms.
She rested her head against his chest, they didn’t realize I stood there, they were too engrossed with what they were doing. He whispers something into her ear and she laughs.
I step back and leave without them doing. I can’t believe they will do this to me. The last time I felt this much pain was when Mom left us for another man, I told Dalton about it and he cheated on me, he knows how sensitive I am about this.
The more I wiped my tears the more it fell down my cheek, the tissue got wet with my tears. My heart ached anytime the image flashed through my head, a thought cross my mind will I be this hurt if he cheated on me with someone else and not her. It doesn't matter.
Reaching the hospital I look my self in a mirror, I wear a fake smile before walking in.
“What happened?.” Dad asked.
He could tell something is wrong with me.
“Don’t lie to me.”
“Daddy he cheated.” I stroll toward my father giving him a hug
“Don’t cry, I’m sorry this happened to you.” He say.

"Are you sure you don't want me to touch you?" He whispers, untying the knot and slipping a hand inside. "Because I swear to God, that is all I have been wanting to do. Every single day from the moment you stepped in our bar and I smelled your perfect flavor from across the room."

The Human Among Wolves
My stomach twisted, but he wasn’t finished.
"You're just a pathetic little human," Zayn said, his words deliberate, each one hitting like a slap. "Spreading your legs for the first guy who bothers to notice you."
Heat rushed to my face, burning with humiliation. My chest ached — not from his words alone, but from the sick realization that I had trusted him. That I had let myself believe he was different.
I was so, so stupid.

My father didn't defend me—he sent me to a forsaken island where wolfless outcasts were forged into weapons, forced to kill each other until only one could leave.
On that island I learned the darkest edges of humanity and how to bury terror in bone. Countless times I wanted to surrender—dive into the waves and never surface—but the accusing faces that haunted my dreams pushed me back toward something colder than survival: revenge. I escaped, and for three years I hid among humans, collecting secrets, learning to move like a shadow, sharpening patience into precision—becoming a blade.
Then, under a full moon, I touched a bleeding stranger—and my wolf returned with a violence that made me whole. Who was he? Why could he wake what I'd thought dead?
One thing I know: now is the time.
I have waited three years for this. I will make everyone who destroyed me pay—and take back everything that was stolen from me.
