The Ghost's Reckoning
Princess Joyee · Ongoing · 40.7k Words
Introduction
Until the night they slaughtered his wife and young daughter.
Framed for the murders and hunted by the very people who trained him, Kai rises from the ashes with a single purpose: vengeance.
Armed with nothing but a growing list of names, a rogue hacker ally, and skills sharpened in blood, he wages a one-man war against The Circle — a cabal of untouchable elites who control governments, weapons, and the future itself through Project Eclipse, a terrifying neural control program.
As Kai cuts through the layers of power, he uncovers a devastating truth: the man who raised him as a son, the legendary Ghostmaker known as Reaper, orchestrated the hit on his family. And the deadly title of Ghostmaker is now his by succession, whether he wants it or not.
With every kill, the line between hunter and monster blurs.
With every betrayal, the stakes rise higher.
In a world where loyalty is currency and power devours the innocent, one broken ghost must decide:
Will he burn the empire that created him…
or become its final, unstoppable ruler?
A pulse-pounding tale of brutal revenge, shocking twists, and a man who refused to stay buried.
Chapter 1
The rain fell like bullets on the streets of Berlin.
Kai Voss stood motionless in the shadowed alcove across from the apartment building, water streaming off the brim of his black hood. The Glock 19 in his gloved hand felt like an extension of his arm, weightless, familiar, lethal. He had killed seventeen men with this exact pistol. Tonight would not be the eighteenth.
Not yet.
His target was late. Dr. Heinrich Lang, senior researcher at Aegis Dynamics, a man whose work on autonomous drone swarms had made him very rich and very dangerous to certain governments. The contract had come through the usual encrypted channels: one-point-two million euros, half upfront, no questions. Standard Veil protocol.
Kai checked his watch. 23:47. Lang should have been home twelve minutes ago.
A black Mercedes pulled up to the curb. The driver stepped out first, umbrella open, scanning the street with the casual paranoia of someone who knew the world was full of wolves. Lang emerged next, briefcase in hand, collar turned up against the downpour. Mid-fifties, silver at the temples, the kind of face that looked trustworthy on corporate brochures.
Kai raised the suppressor-equipped Glock, exhaled slowly, and waited for the perfect window.
Then his phone vibrated once against his thigh.
Only one person had this number.
He ignored it.
The shot would be clean, through the temple as Lang turned toward the building entrance. Minimal mess. The driver would panic, maybe draw his own weapon. Kai would put two in his chest before the man cleared leather. Then he would walk away into the rain, just another shadow in a city that swallowed ghosts whole.
His phone vibrated again. Insistent.
Kai’s jaw tightened. He lowered the pistol a fraction.
The message appeared on the encrypted screen:
Emergency extraction. Your family is compromised. Get out NOW.
The world narrowed to a pinprick.
Family.
He had no family. Not anymore. Not since he walked away from that life six years ago. Elena and Mia were safe in a quiet village outside Zurich. Protected. Hidden. He had made sure of it. Paid in blood and favors for that safety.
Another buzz.
They know. They’re coming. Run.
Kai’s pulse, usually a metronome at 52 beats per minute even during kills, spiked hard.
He abandoned the shot.
Turning, he sprinted through the rain-slick alleys, boots splashing through puddles that reflected the sickly orange glow of streetlamps. The Mercedes and Dr. Lang no longer existed. Only one thought remained: Zurich.
He reached the nondescript gray Audi parked three blocks away, slid behind the wheel, and peeled out before the door fully closed. The encrypted burner was already at his ear.
“Reaper,” he growled the moment the line connected. “Talk.”
Marcus Kane’s voice came through, tight and clipped, the same tone he used when operations went to hell in Kandahar or Mogadishu back in the old days. “Kai. They hit the safe house thirty minutes ago. I only just got the alert.”
“Elena. Mia.” The names tasted like ash.
A pause. The kind that carried weight.
“They’re gone, son.”
The Audi swerved. Horns blared behind him.
“Define gone,” Kai said, voice dangerously calm.
“House is burned. Local Polizei are already on scene. I hacked the preliminary report before they locked it down. Two bodies. Female. One adult, one child. Multiple gunshot wounds. Execution style.”
Kai’s vision tunneled. The road ahead blurred, not from rain, but from something far more dangerous: rage so pure it felt like ice in his veins.
“Who?” he asked.
“We don’t know yet. Veil is denying involvement, but the signatures… it’s professional. Too clean for street thugs. Someone with resources. Someone who knew the exact location of your bolt-hole.”
Kai floored the accelerator. The engine roared.
“I’m heading to Zurich.”
“No,” Reaper snapped. “You’re burned. Every agency in Europe has your face by now. They’re already spinning the narrative, disgruntled ex-operator goes rogue, slaughters his own family in a paranoid breakdown. Your Veil file is being leaked in pieces. They want you painted as the villain so no one asks questions when they put you down.”
“I don’t care.”
“Kai...”
“I said I don’t care.”
Silence stretched for three heartbeats.
“Then listen to me very carefully,” Reaper said. “If you go to Zurich right now, you die. They’ll be waiting. Use the emergency protocol I set up three years ago. There’s a cache in Prague. New identity, weapons, untraceable funds. Go dark. Grieve later. Find out who did this, then make them bleed.”
Kai’s knuckles whitened on the steering wheel.
“Send me the address.”
Reaper exhaled. “Already on your phone. And Kai… whatever you do next, remember the code. No women. No children. We’re not monsters.”
Kai ended the call without replying.
The code.
The same code that had kept him alive for twelve years as The Veil’s top ghost. The same code that had let him sleep at night after putting down warlords, arms dealers, and corrupt officials who deserved far worse.
But tonight, someone had broken every rule.
Someone had taken his wife, his anchor, the only person who ever saw the man beneath the killer.
Someone had taken his daughter,Mia, with her gap-toothed smile and endless questions about why Daddy traveled so much.
The rain hammered the windshield like accusations.
By the time he crossed the German-Czech border at 4:17 a.m., using a forged passport from the glove compartment, the first cracks had already formed in the ice around his heart.
He reached the Prague cache, an abandoned textile factory on the outskirts at dawn. The metal door screeched open. Inside, a duffel bag waited exactly where Reaper promised: passports, credit cards under three different names, two pistols with suppressors, ammunition, a laptop with air-gapped drives, and a thick envelope of cash.
Kai opened the laptop.
The first file was a secure link to news footage from Zurich.
He clicked it.
The video showed the charred remains of the safe house. Yellow police tape. Reporters speaking in grave German. “Tragic murder-suicide… former special forces operative suspected…”
Kai watched without blinking.
Then he opened the second file.
A single photograph.
His family. Elena and Mia. Taken last Christmas. They were smiling in the kitchen of the safe house, flour on their cheeks from baking cookies. Mia held up a misshapen gingerbread man like a trophy.
Kai stared at the image until his eyes burned.
He closed the laptop.
From the duffel he pulled a fresh burner phone and dialed a number he had sworn never to use again.
It rang twice.
A woman’s voice answered, husky with sleep and suspicion. “Who the hell is this?”
“Lena,” Kai said. “It’s Voss. I need your help.”
A sharp inhale. “Kai? Jesus. You’re supposed to be dead to me. Literally.”
“They killed them.”
Silence.
Then, softer: “Elena and the kid?”
“Yes.”
Another pause. Lena Moreau had been one of the best forgers and hackers The Veil ever employed before she walked away with half their digital secrets and a price on her head.
“I’m sorry,” she said finally. There was genuine pain in it. “What do you need?”
“Everything. Names. Money trails. Who ordered the hit on my family. And I need it yesterday.”
“You know what this means. If I help you, I’m painting a target on my back too.”
“I know.”
Lena sighed. “Fine. But this isn’t charity. You owe me. Big. And Kai… if you’re going after whoever did this, understand one thing.”
“What?”
“They won’t stop until you’re in the ground. And they have armies. You’re just one man.”
Kai looked down at the Glock he had set on the table beside the laptop.
One man.
One list.
One purpose.
“Then they should have left my family alone,” he said quietly.
Then ended the call.

What? No—wait… oh Moon Goddess, no.

We turn the corner, and the scent hits me like a punch to the chest—cinnamon and something impossibly warm. My eyes scan the room until they land on him. Tall. Commanding. Beautiful.

His expression twists.
"Fuck no."
He turns—and runs.

A pack of their own
The Pack: Rule Number 1 - No Mates
"Let me go," I whimper, my body trembling with need. "I don't want you touching me."
I fall forward onto the bed then turn around to stare at him. The dark tattoos of Domonic's chiseled shoulders, quiver and and expand with the heave of his chest. His deep dimpled smile is full of arrogance as he reaches behind himself to lock the door.
Biting his lip, he stalks toward me, his hand going to the seam of his pants and the thickening bulge there.
"Are you sure you don't want me to touch you?" He whispers, untying the knot and slipping a hand inside. "Because I swear to God, that is all I have been wanting to do. Every single day from the moment you stepped in our bar and I smelled your perfect flavor from across the room."
New to the world of shifters, Draven is human on the run. A beautiful girl who no one could protect. Domonic is the cold Alpha of the Red Wolf Pack. A brotherhood of twelve wolves that live by twelve rules. Rules which they vowed could NEVER be broken.
Especially - Rule Number One - No Mates

But she doesn’t know about the child she’s carrying or that the moment she left, Domonic decided rules were made to be broken - and now will he ever find her again? Will she forgive him?
The Human Among Wolves
My stomach twisted, but he wasn’t finished.
"You're just a pathetic little human," Zayn said, his words deliberate, each one hitting like a slap. "Spreading your legs for the first guy who bothers to notice you."
Heat rushed to my face, burning with humiliation. My chest ached — not from his words alone, but from the sick realization that I had trusted him. That I had let myself believe he was different.
I was so, so stupid.

Let Them Kneel
Cast out by her pack. Forgotten by the Lycans.
She lived among humans—quiet, invisible, tucked away in a town no one looked at twice.

Her body ignites. Her instincts scream. And something primal stirs beneath her skin—
summoning a big, bad Alpha who knows exactly how to quench her fire.

For the first time, she believes she’s been accepted.
Seen.
Chosen.
Until he leaves her the next morning—

Not wolfless. Not weak.
There is something ancient inside her. Something powerful. And it’s waking.
And when it does—
they’ll all remember the girl they tried to erase.
Especially him.
She’ll be the dream he keeps chasing… the one thing that ever made him feel alive.
Because secrets never stay buried.
And neither do dreams.
Rise of the Banished She-Wolf
That roar stole my eighteenth birthday and shattered my world. My first shift should have been glory—blood turned blessing into shame. By dawn they'd branded me "cursed": cast out by my pack, abandoned by family, stripped of my nature. My father didn't defend me—he sent me to a forsaken island where wolfless outcasts were forged into weapons, forced to kill each other until only one could leave.
On that island I learned the darkest edges of humanity and how to bury terror in bone. Countless times I wanted to surrender—dive into the waves and never surface—but the accusing faces that haunted my dreams pushed me back toward something colder than survival: revenge. I escaped, and for three years I hid among humans, collecting secrets, learning to move like a shadow, sharpening patience into precision—becoming a blade.
Then, under a full moon, I touched a bleeding stranger—and my wolf returned with a violence that made me whole. Who was he? Why could he wake what I'd thought dead?
One thing I know: now is the time.
I have waited three years for this. I will make everyone who destroyed me pay—and take back everything that was stolen from me.

Falling For The Biker: The Vice President's Girl
His eyes darken, flicking to my mouth.
"It's wrong. Your brother would slit my throat for just standing this close. But tell me, little bird" his breath ghosts my skin, "are you trembling because you hate me… or because you've wanted this just as much as I have?"
Wren thought she'd buried the chaos of New Orleans for good—the clubs, the blood-soaked loyalties, the men who lived and died by their kuttes. Seattle gave her everything she ever wanted: freedom, love, a future.
But one betrayal shatters it all.
Dragged home by tragedy, Wren finds herself under the watchful eye of Ezra Jax—the Raven Reapers MC's vice president and her brother's best friend. He's infuriating, dangerous, and far too tempting for a man she should never touch.
And the deeper Wren is pulled back into his world, the more she realizes nothing about her past—or about Ezra—is what she believed.
In the chaos of gang wars, mounting debts, and old betrayals, he becomes the one constant. The more she fights him, the harder she falls. And the more he pushes her away, the more lethal his pull becomes.
Because in this world, love isn't sweet.
It's brutal. Bloody.
And it's bound to break them both.
When loyalty is everything and love can cost your life, will Wren risk her heart on the one man she was never meant to love?
