Introduction
Chapter 1
"Don't blink, boy. This is the only education your kind will ever afford."
The heat from the tip of Lord Julian’s Fire-Lance wasn’t just a sensation; it was a physical weight.
Kaelen stood on the scorched earth of the academy’s training grounds, his feet planted, his chest bare.
Nineteen years old today. In the village, there would have been ale and a small loaf of honey bread. Here, there was only the smell of his own singed hair.
"Lord Julian, the manual suggests a wooden target for the first demonstration," a freshman whispered from the sidelines.
Julian didn't look back. He adjusted his silk cuff. "The manual is for those who fear the elements. This peasant is sturdier than oak. Aren't you, Kaelen?"
"I’m standing right here, My Lord," Kaelen said, his voice flat.
"Good. Now, class, observe the ignition point." Julian’s eyes flashed with a cruel, amber light.
Without a word of warning, Julian thrust the lance forward. The air screamed. A bolt of concentrated heat slammed into Kaelen’s sternum. The smell of burning flesh filled the air instantly. Kaelen’s boots skidded back three inches, carving ruts into the dirt, but he didn't fall. He didn't even groan.
"See?" Julian laughed, turning to the wealthy students. "The skin is thick. It resists the initial sear. To truly break a target, you must find the spirit behind the ribcage."
"You missed my heart," Kaelen said, the burn on his chest already blistering into a raw, red mess.
Julian stopped laughing. His grip tightened on the silver-chased lance. "Excuse me?"
"You said you were demonstrating precision. You hit the sternum. If that was a real combatant, they’d have a broken bone, but they’d still have their sword in your throat."
The freshman class went silent. You didn't correct a High Noble, especially not when you were a scholarship 'charity case' brought in to be a literal punching bag.
"A sword in my throat?" Julian stepped closer, the heat radiating off him in waves. "You think because you can stand still and take a hit, you’re a warrior? You’re a target, Kaelen. Nothing more."
"Then hit the target," Kaelen challenged.
"Julian, stop," a voice called out.
Elara stepped forward from the shadows of the stone pillars. She looked radiant in her sapphire silks, the crest of the House of Valerius shimmering on her breast. Kaelen’s heart did a slow, painful roll. They had climbed apple trees together ten years ago. They had promised to see the capital together. Now, she was the fiancé of the man holding the fire.
"He’s just a servant, Julian. Don't waste your mana," Elara said, her eyes carefully avoiding Kaelen’s.
"He’s a servant who thinks he’s a critic, Elara. He needs to understand the gap between us." Julian turned back to Kaelen, a sneer twisting his handsome features. "Let’s try the 'Face of the Sun' strike. No shields, Kaelen. If you move, I’ll have your mother’s lease revoked by sundown."
Kaelen’s jaw tightened. "I won't move."
Julian didn't wait. He leveled the lance directly at Kaelen’s eyes. This wasn't a demonstration. It was an execution.
"Die, peasant!"
The lance erupted. A beam of white-hot plasma roared toward Kaelen’s face. The students gasped. It was too fast for a human to track.
But Kaelen wasn't just a human; he was a human who had been hunted his entire life.
With a twitch of his neck, Kaelen moved. The beam hissed past his ear, close enough to melt the hair off the side of his head. It slammed into the reinforced stone wall behind him, vaporizing a chunk of granite the size of a man’s head.
The silence that followed was absolute.
"He... he moved," a student stammered. "He dodged a Fire-Lance at point-blank range?"
"That’s impossible," another hissed. "Only a Silver-Ranked Knight has those reflexes."
Julian’s face went from pale to a deep, bruised purple. "You moved. You dared to move!"
"You aimed for my eyes, Julian," Kaelen said, his voice dropping an octave. "Training ends when the instructor tries to murder the student."
"Training ends when I say it ends!" Julian screamed.
He turned to the side. "Elara! The potion. Now!"
Kaelen looked at Elara. Don't do it, he thought.
Remember the orchard. Remember the promises.
Elara didn't look at him. With a steady hand, she reached into her silken pouch and pulled out a vial of shimmering, violet liquid. High-grade mana-potion.
The kind that could stop a heart if used incorrectly.
"Here, Julian," she said, her voice like ice. "Finish this. He’s making a scene."
She handed the vial to Julian. Her fingers brushed his, and she gave him a small, encouraging nod.
The betrayal hit Kaelen harder than the fire bolt. He felt something crack inside his chest, and it wasn't a rib.
Julian downed the potion in a single gulp. His veins turned black, bulging against his neck as the raw power flooded his system. The air around him began to shimmer and distort. The grass at his feet turned to ash instantly.
"You think you're fast, Kaelen?" Julian whispered, his voice vibrating with unnatural power.
Julian stepped forward, the Fire-Lance glowing so brightly it was painful to look at. The freshman scrambled back, sensing the shift in the air. This was no longer a lesson. This was a slaughter.
"I’ve spent a fortune on my education," Julian hissed, leaning in until Kaelen could smell the ozone. "You think a bit of dirt-born luck makes you my equal? I am a Lord of the Flame. You are the soot under my boot."
"Is that why you need a potion to hit me?" Kaelen retorted.
Julian’s fist whipped out, slamming into Kaelen’s jaw. The force, augmented by mana, sent Kaelen spinning to the dirt.
"Stay down!" Julian shouted, kicking Kaelen in the ribs. "Stay down and take your punishment!"
Kaelen spit blood onto Julian’s polished boots. He began to stand up, his muscles screaming, the burn on his chest weeping.
"You're going to have to do better than that, My Lord," Kaelen gritted out.
Julian’s eyes turned entirely black. He raised the lance, but this time, he didn't point it. He began to chant in a low, guttural language that made the stones of the courtyard vibrate. The sky seemed to darken, a localized storm of embers swirling around the tip of his weapon.
"Julian, wait," Elara whispered, her face finally showing a flicker of alarm. "That’s the Soul-Searing incantation. That’s forbidden.".
"He insulted me in front of my peers, Elara! He challenged a Valerius!" Julian’s voice was a roar.
He stepped over Kaelen, who was struggling to find his footing. Julian leaned down, grabbing Kaelen by the hair and forcing his head back. The tip of the lance was inches from Kaelen’s throat, humming with a terrifying, soul-crushing frequency.
"I was going to just burn your skin," Julian whispered into Kaelen’s ear, his breath hot as a furnace. "But now? I’m going to make you beg for the Abyss. I’m going to burn the very memories of you out of existence.".
The tip of the lance turned a sickly, necrotic purple.
"Look at her, Kaelen," Julian sneered, nodding toward Elara. "Look at the woman you thought cared for you.
She’s the one who gave me the power to erase you.
She wants you gone."
Kaelen looked at Elara. She didn't turn away this time. She watched with a cold, detached curiosity as the forbidden spell gathered its final, lethal charge.
"Goodbye, peasant," Julian hissed.
The world turned purple.

I Found the Babies
"When..." He growled in my ear, "When we will be getting married, I will be your only king, do you get my point? Only one queen, no misters or mistresses. Just me, just you, and yeah, our babies."
I shivered.
Alyssa Reynolds found herself in a situation, while returning home from work, and she had three choices:
Simply walk away and forget that you ever heard the sound of wailing infants.
Call the police and inform them about the innocent wails.
Follow the sounds of the wails and take the matter in your hands, deciding what to do later.
Being a kindhearted soul and a sucker for babies, she found herself choosing the third option, finding the two little lives.
Two little lives that changed her whole life, her love life included. Her life now revolved around the babies as diapers, vomit and shit seemed to surround her.
Just when she thought that now it's just her and the babies, her whole world flipped over and she found herself living under the same roof as the egotistical, obnoxious and hot-as-hell Terence Powers, the business tycoon who was not going to let the woman fend off for herself and the babies alone.
The Contract Wife: Marriage Of Malice
He didn't finish. He didn't need to.
I didn't tell him to stop.
Instead, my fingers curled into his shirt, clutching the fabric as though it was my only anchor. Something in him snapped—something he had been holding back for too long. His mouth found mine in a kiss that wasn't tender, but hungry, desperate.
I gasped into him, his hand sliding up to cup my jaw, holding me as if afraid I might vanish.
"You drive me insane," he breathed against my mouth, his lips trailing to my throat. "I can't lose you, Ella. Not you."
My head fell back, a soft sound escaping me as his fingers memorized my waist. My anger melted beneath his desperation.
"James..." I whispered, more plea than protest.
His hand caught mine, fingers threading together tightly. "I'll bring him back. I swear it. Just... don't turn away from me. Please."
The word please—low, ragged, almost broken—undid me more than anything else could have.
Ella never imagined she would marry the man she had secretly loved for years in such a way.
When her brother Theo faced twenty-five years in prison for massive embezzlement, the ruthless business tycoon James Lancaster offered her a deal: marry him in exchange for her brother's freedom.
This wasn't a fairy tale proposal, but a carefully orchestrated revenge. Because in James's heart, Ella was the culprit who had killed his sister Cecilia. He wanted her to pay the price—to atone with a lifetime of suffering.

The head chef looked like he was silently praying for death.
I rushed forward. “Amara. Stop traumatizing these poor people.”
She spun around, delighted. “Sera! Good, you’re here. Taste this. It’s missing despair.”
The chef’s face morphed into existential crisis.
I grabbed her arm. “Put the spatula down.”
“But—”
“Down.”
With exaggerated offense, she dropped the spatula and muttered, “Fine. But if no one here has artistic vision, that’s not my fault.”
She went undercover to expose a mafia empire.
He offered her thirty nights to save her life.
