Introduction
Chapter 1
Glasgow, Scotland, 1988
It was a cool night. May lay on her bed, looking up at the ceiling of her room. Of course, this day was bound to come, she thought to herself.
It was a normal day, and by normal, she meant her usual routine of sitting calmly like a proper lady should and stitching bloody parasols -- they were eventually bloody by the time she finished with them, she had never been able to manage through a complete stitching without pricking her finger so many times that whatever it was she was sowing had to be washed thoroughly by the servants before it could be used, or even thrown away.
Bloody hell! She was supposed to be running around celebrating, she had just been accepted into the Helen Crowther academy for people with special abilities, both male and female, Noble and poor. She had won. She had always wanted to be a warrior and not some silly blushing lady who knew nothing more than stitch parasols and play silly tunes on pianofortes.
I need rest, she thought to herself. She will be off in three days.
(Tomorrow would be a big day, as expected, going to the dressmaker, also getting some boots for the battlefield, packing.....). The light was off the next morning, May wondered who dared turn it off as she knew everyone in that castle knows she likes her light being on all day for a peculiar reason she wouldn’t announce to them. She had instantly thought of telling them why she doesn't turn off her lights to sleep. As you would think, May isn't afraid of the dark, noo.. that would be belittling the dark, May is terrified of the dark, so she keeps her lights on. The reluctance she felt in having a bath was due not to today's running around only, but the fact she wouldn't be having a nice day for herself. She quickly pulled off her clothes, as she ordered her servants to prepare her a warm bath. May had a towel wrapped around her little body as she thought of what to put on. She looked at herself in the mirror one last time after she had put on makeup. She usually doesn't do much, just the powder. After May was done she glanced down at her phone, “shit 8:14 am”, Father’s going to scream her name in 5,4,3,2.
"May! May!, get yourself down in this instance," Father shouted. May ran down the stairs almost immediately, and into the kitchen where she was met with a meal by her older sister, Ellie had prepared her a special meal instead of a servant. She went back up to her bedroom as usual as she couldn't get sight of her. May had rushed her breakfast, eggs and warm milk then shouted back to her Father, "Father, I’m ready, I’ll be out front". May said as she usually keeps her words short.
"Ok, Miles, meet us at the door front right now!" Father had said to her elder brother as she walked out the front door.
King Simone had a carriage out the lawn as soon as possible, as they rode around town in preparations for May's new beginning, they had a maid and two servants accompany them. They continued the journey for about half the day, as the dressmaker had to perfect all May’s dresses. The carriage had arrived back at King Simone’s home just after the sun had gone down, the servants rushed to help out with the luggage they had brought back, and the servants followed her up to her room.
The servants had prepared her a bath and washed her, for as long as two hours, since she requested a massage after all.
As early as the first crow, Father had let the maids prepare May the best they could, he wouldn’t want his daughter's lateness to give him a bad reputation. The maids went into Mays's room and had her wide awake as they had prepared a nice bath for her, they also had her hair and her feet washed properly. As they dressed her up in an elegant way. The daughter of a nobleman, they all had in mind, her father was the best warrior and the King of Ace Realm the most strongest and powerful realm, no one dared mess with him and go Scot free. People feared King Simone of Ace Realm, he was known to be ruthless as people from every nook and cranny of the countryside knew what he was like. May was dressed nobly, she didn't get to dress in a warrior dress not until the school of training had addressed them all. The maids had done a great job as her Father the King had an appealing look on his face as she came down the stairs with the servants and a maid behind her carrying all of her luggage to the carriage which was prepared to travel to them.
May was out the door alongside her father the King, her older brother Miles, and her older sister Queen Ellie, as she said her quick goodbyes to them all and went back into the Ace castle even before they had left. Prince Miles helped her sister up the carriage, as the maid helped with her clothes into the carriage. The servants had gotten all of their luggage into the carriage. They had left afterward. The journey took a while as May looked out the carriage, the sky was so blue, they had passed through a lake as she saw how nice the water was and she saw some swarms swimming. She loved the sight and wished she could be there staring at them for a while, but the carriage moved faster. She was so tired she had a break during the journey as she closed her eyes and slept off for a while. Her brother Prince Miles had her head up his shoulder as he noticed she was feeling uncomfortable, King Simone looked at the beautiful sight before him but had to do what he had to, let them go, it was for their good, their success he thought, he stared for a long time before thinking of something else. They had all gotten to the training school, and as the carriage moved to stop, May woke up, she took a look at how huge and beautiful the school had looked before taking her brother's hand to let her down the carriage. The maid's servants had wanted to help her with her luggage to the dorm but she insisted on letting just her and her maid only, as she didn’t want anyone noticing her with them, she had had her family agree with her on keeping a low profile. She waved them goodbye as she struggled with her luggage to the front hall before going into her dorm, her maid was behind her.
May had gotten in, realizing she was the only one in it, her supposed roommate hadn’t arrived yet. She had instructed her maid to help her with unpacking her luggage. Miles had the servants carry his luggage to the males' dorm after May had disappeared into hers. The servants had wanted to help him in unpacking, but he refused as he ushered them out back to his father. They were all ordered not to let any servants or maids stay with all who had come to the training school. The maid and servant had come back to the carriage and met with the King as they reported the state to him, he sighed and ordered they leave now.
May had retired for the night as she was too tired to make any more arrangements. So she bathed herself and had a rest.
"This is so loud! What the heck was that!" May had woken up to the sound of something unknown to her, just to realize it was no animal but a siren to help with their lateness and each person’s laziness.
"Oh, well, great. Father hadn't told me the devilish side effect of this school”. May got out of bed as she did her morning routine with no servant’s help to wash up or prepare, well as fast as she could this time, she did her best to do it alone. And she succeeded. Once done, she rushed out straight after getting her glasses and her spell book of course, as she tried to miss her step to fall, as she was hurriedly walking.
2 Hours Later;
With a heavy heartache, she had thought how nice the school would be, if only they had written boldly on the letter of acceptance "BEWARE OF THE SUICIDAL MISSION AS PART OF YOUR SCHOOL LIFE” May had grumbled silently, as her name still hasn't been called. Just then she had a small laugh behind her, she bowed her head as she felt embarrassed, blaming herself.
"I'm Lina, '' a female voice said from behind her." May almost jumped out of lane, as she got scared by the voice.
"Don’t do that" May turned back with an angry face as she turned back to tell the girl. Almost immediately, she heard her name being called out aloud. "May Khalid, Lina Gather" the storekeeper had called out as well as three more names May didn't care about. She had no choice but to use “Khalid” as her surname.
May rushed into the store and was met by the bookkeepers who ushered them in. She had given her the list of her books, as well as her training room and all she would be needing. After getting all she needed, she directed herself along with others to the training room and settled in and got to make friends, actually just friendly people who wished to talk with other people.
