Introduction

Neoma of Valdris was raised to be a Queen, elegant, dignified, and loyal to her family above all else. So when her kingdom faces ruin and only a political marriage to the Alpha King of Drakoria can save her people, she agrees to sacrifice everything.

The problem? She has already fallen in love.

Orion, the Alpha King, came to Valdris undercover to judge his future bride. He never expected to fall for the woman he was meant to marry. Their love was secret, passionate, and real.

Until Neoma learned the truth: the arranged marriage was unavoidable. And if Orion stayed, he would be destroyed alongside her family.

So she made a choice. She publicly humiliated him. She made him believe she never loved him. She destroyed his dignity and sent him away broken, believing she was protecting him.

Weeks later, she travels to Drakoria for her wedding. She walks down the aisle and looks up.

Orion is standing at the altar. He is the Alpha King.

The man she humiliated. The man she loved. The man she destroyed.

Now she is his Queen, trapped in a marriage of cold revenge. He makes her feel unwanted. Unseen. Unworthy. But the fire between them won't die. Jealousy flares. Old wounds bleed. And when someone begins attacking her family and framing Drakoria, Neoma must face the truth: a mastermind is manipulating them both.

To survive, they must learn to trust each other again. But can love survive after betrayal? And can they defeat the enemy pulling the strings before their kingdoms burn?

Alpha's Scorned Luna is a slow-burn werewolf romance about sacrifice, redemption, and the impossible choice between love and duty.

Chapter 1

“Did you truly believe I could ever love someone like you?”

Neoma’s voice cut through the music like a blade drawn in a quiet room.

The string quartet faltered. One violin gave a single, broken note before falling silent. The cellist’s bow hovered mid-air. Conversations across the great hall died in uneven waves, first the nearest tables, then the ones farther back, until even the softest laughter at the far end of the room collapsed into nothing.

Hundreds of eyes turned toward the center of the floor.

Orion stood beside Neoma in the middle of it all, still dressed in the simple clothes of a stablehand. But there was something about the way he held himself that didn't quite match the rough fabric, a straightness in his spine, a quiet authority in the set of his shoulders. He moved like a man accustomed to command, not servitude.

His hand rested lightly over hers, the way it had so many evenings in the gardens when no one was watching. His fingers were long, elegant, clean. Too clean for a man who spent his days in stables. There was no dirt beneath his nails, no calluses on his palms. Neoma had noticed it before but never questioned it.

For a moment he did not move. His silver-grey eyes searched her face, as if the words had not quite reached him yet.

“Neoma…” His voice carried confusion. Almost disbelief. “What are you saying?”

Neoma slowly withdrew her hand.

Not hurriedly. Not nervously. She pulled it away as though his touch had become something unpleasant, something she had tolerated long enough. Her fingers slipped free with deliberate ease. Then she lifted her chin, the birthday crown still resting in her dark chestnut hair, candlelight catching the jewels like cold fire.

“I said exactly what you heard.”

A murmur passed through the hall, low and hungry.

Behind her, Adeline’s voice rose, sharp with alarm. “Whatever you think this is, stop it…”

Neoma did not turn. Her eyes stayed locked on Orion’s. “Don’t interfere in this. I need to make sure this lowlife knows his place.”

Adeline’s breath caught. The younger girl’s hands tightened in the folds of her gown, but she said nothing more. The hall waited.

Neoma looked directly into Orion’s eyes. “Did you truly believe a woman like me could love a man like you?”

Orion stared at her. His lips parted, but no words came at first. The color had already begun to drain from his face.

Whispers rose from the crowd like smoke.

“Isn’t that the stable hand?” a woman’s voice asked from somewhere behind them.

“I thought she liked him,” another replied.

“She brought him to her birthday celebration?”

“Perhaps she was only amusing herself.”

“Look at him. He actually thought he had a chance.”

Neoma heard every word. She did not react. Her expression remained composed, almost serene, as if the entire scene were nothing more than a minor inconvenience she had decided to correct in public.

Orion did react. His gaze moved across the hall, taking in the faces watching him, nobles in silk and jewels, servants frozen mid-service, guests who had seen him walking beside Neoma through the gardens, who had watched her visit the stables more often than propriety allowed. People who had already begun whispering about them long before tonight. His face slowly lost the last of its color.

“I thought…” His voice was rough now, scraped raw. “I thought what we had was real.”

“It wasn’t.”

The answer came so quickly that several people exchanged looks. A few leaned closer, as if afraid to miss the next blow.

Orion flinched. The movement was small, almost involuntary, but it showed in the way his shoulders tightened and his hands curled at his sides.

“You don’t mean that.”

“I do.”

“The stables,” he said, desperate now. “Our walks. The evenings we spent together. You told me you liked being with me.”

“I was bored.”

His expression changed. Something in his eyes cracked, hope giving way to something uglier and more fragile.

Neoma continued before he could speak again. Her voice stayed calm, almost conversational, as if she were discussing the weather rather than dismantling a man’s heart in front of half the kingdom’s elite.

“You were there. You were handsome. You were entertaining.” She gave him a small smile. It did not reach her eyes. “That was all.”

Orion stared at her as though he no longer recognized the woman standing before him. “That isn’t true.”

“It is.”

“I know you, Neoma.” Orion insisted

“No.” She took one step toward him. The hem of her gown whispered against the marble. “You never knew me. You knew who I let you see.”

His brows pulled together. The confusion on his face was almost painful to watch. “Why would you say that?”

“Because you need to understand something.” She looked at him slowly, deliberately, making certain every word landed. “You are a stable hand.”

The words fell into the silence like stones into still water.

“You brush horses. You clean stalls. You serve people who were born above you.”

A few people laughed. The sound was sharp and ugly in the quiet.

“He actually thought she was interested in him,” someone said loudly enough for the entire hall to hear.

“Look at his hands. Filthy… you can still see dirt in his fingernails from here” A lady from the far end of the ballroom said

“He doesn’t even own proper clothes.”

“What was he thinking?”

Neoma heard every word. She did not flinch. If anything, her posture grew straighter, more regal, as if the mockery of the crowd only confirmed what she already knew to be true.

“And somehow,” she continued, voice still even, “you convinced yourself that I would choose you over the Alpha King of Drakoria.”

Orion’s hands curled into fists. The knuckles whitened. “I never asked you to choose me because of your family’s wealth.”

“No.” Her voice remained calm. “You simply forgot what you are.”

His jaw tightened. A muscle jumped along the line of it. “I know what I am.”

“Do you?” She stepped closer. Close enough that he would feel the words as much as hear them. “Then perhaps you should have remembered who I am.”

Orion’s eyes searched hers, still looking for something that was no longer there. “You told me you loved me.”

A tiny pause stretched between them. The hall seemed to hold its breath.

Neoma forced herself not to blink. “I lied.”

The word hit him harder than anything else. His breathing became uneven. His chest rose and fell too quickly.

“You lied?”

“Yes.”

"Every single time," Orion pressed, his voice cracking. "The nights we spent talking. The things you told me."

Neoma's heart hammered against her ribs. But her expression remained calm, almost indifferent.

"All of it," she said. "Every word. Every moment. It meant nothing."

Her voice was steady, final. She watched the last of the light leave his eyes, and she did not look away.

“Your birthday…” His voice broke on the last word. He swallowed hard, then forced the rest out. “You asked me to come here.”

“I wanted you to bring the horses.”

The laughter came again. Louder this time. Harsher. It rolled through the great hall like a wave of knives.

“I told you,” a woman’s voice cut through the noise, rich with satisfaction. “She was playing with him… Neoma is too regal to be with someone like him”

“Poor fool actually believed it.”

“He looks like he’s about to cry.”

Orion looked toward the voices, then back at her. His humiliation was written across his face, raw and undeniable. The trembling in his fingers. The tightness in his jaw. The devastation in his eyes that he could no longer hide.

Neoma could see it all. She did not look away.

You actually believed I brought you here because I wanted you beside me?" she asked, her voice dripping with contempt. "Like I would pick you over the Alpha King of Drakoria?"

She smiled, cold, dismissive, cruel.

"How foolish.”

Orion swallowed. The sound was audible in the silence that followed. “I loved you.”

The hall went completely silent.

Neoma felt the words tear through her. Something sharp and unwanted twisted behind her ribs. But her expression did not change. Not even a flicker.

“That was your mistake.”

He stared at her. For several seconds neither of them moved. The chandeliers above them burned bright and indifferent. Somewhere in the crowd a glass was set down too carefully, the soft click loud in the stillness.

Then Orion whispered, “Why?”

Neoma’s heart hammered against her ribs.

“Because I wanted to watch you break.”
