Introduction

She never planned to meet him. She definitely never planned to end up in his bed.
But one wrong door, one glass of champagne too many, and Emilia finds herself tangled with Lukas Berlin the coldest, most powerful Alpha in Germany.

He owns half of Berlin. He runs the pack with an iron fist. And he doesn’t do second chances.
So when he finds out Emilia is pregnant with his heir, he doesn’t ask. He claims.

"For the next 9 months, you’re my Luna. In public. On paper. In my bed."
It’s just a contract, he says. No feelings. No love.
But his touch burns. His jealousy is possessive. And the way he looks at her like she’s the only thing that matters is starting to break all her walls.

Emilia knows better than to fall for a man like him. A man with enemies, secrets, and a past that could destroy them both.
But the more time she spends as the Berlin Alpha’s claimed Luna, the harder it gets to remember this was never supposed to be real.

One night changed everything.
Now she belongs to him.
The question is... can she survive being claimed by the Berlin Alpha?

Chapter 1

The Berlin Pack counted time in full moons and rejection ceremonies, and Kira Voss had been looking forward to neither.

She stood in the centre of Luna's main floor on the night of her eighteenth birthday wearing a white dress that had taken her three months of saved wages to buy. The fabric was simple, deliberately so, nothing that could be read as trying too hard. She had done her dark auburn hair down, which she rarely did, because Mila had told her she looked like someone worth claiming when it fell past her shoulders. She had believed Mila. That was mistake number one.

The club smelled of pine resin and amber and the particular electric tension that came before a pack ceremony, something sharp and mineral at the back of the throat that made wolves shift their weight and humans, had there been any, would have described as the air pressure dropping. There were no humans present. Sixty-three pack members stood arranged in a loose circle around the cleared dance floor, and above the bar, three cameras fed live to the pack's encrypted stream. The viewer count had already climbed past forty thousand.

Kira had known about the cameras. Everyone knew about the cameras. Alpha Leon Krause ran the most documented pack in central Europe, a deliberate transparency strategy that made the Berlin Pack impossible to accuse of the old abuses, the secretive cruelties of packs that operated in the dark. She had admired it, once. She had admired a lot of things about him, once.

He stood at the far end of the cleared floor and she felt him before she saw him, the way you felt a change in a room's temperature or the moment before a storm broke. The Alpha bond was the most irrational thing about shifter biology and also the most undeniable: your wolf simply knew. Kira's wolf, Seele, had been pressing warm and insistent against the inside of Kira's ribs since the moment she was old enough to understand what the feeling meant.

Leon Krause was twenty-three years old and had been Alpha for four years. He was built for the role: broad across the shoulders, dark-haired, with green eyes that had learned very early how to give nothing away. There was a scar through his left eyebrow from his first Alpha challenge at nineteen. He wore it the way he wore everything, as if the world had tried to mark him and he had simply declined to notice.

Kira had been dreaming about this night for two years. The ceremony was simple. She would step forward. He would reach for her hand. The bond would snap into full recognition, visible to every wolf in the room as a shimmer of light along the mate-link, and the pack would see their Alpha's Gefährtin confirmed. She had mapped it out in such careful detail that walking into the club tonight had felt almost like a memory rather than an event still waiting to happen.

Beta Rolf Hagen stood at Leon's left, and he was watching Kira with an expression she did not have time to read correctly. She would spend a long time, in the years after, trying to reconstruct that look. She would eventually understand it as relief.

Leon looked at her.

Kira waited for the recognition, the small involuntary softening that happened when an Alpha's wolf acknowledged a mate. She had seen it happen with other pairs. It looked like the moment when a person walking in wind finally stepped into shelter.

Instead, Leon's eyes moved over her face with an assessing calm that contained nothing she recognised.

Rolf leaned in and said something quiet into his ear.

The stream counter climbed past fifty thousand.

Leon's jaw tightened by a fraction. Then he stepped forward to the centre of the floor and his voice, Alpha-resonant, carried to every corner of the club and to every device streaming the ceremony worldwide.

"Kira Voss."

She stepped forward. Her hands were steady. She was proud of that, later.

"I, Leon Krause, Alpha of the Berlin Rudel, acknowledge the mate-pull."

The pack breathed.

"And I reject it."

The silence was so complete that Kira could hear the hum of the camera equipment.

"Weak." He said the word the way you stated a fact. "Useless. Not my mate."

Five words. Three of them adjectives. She stood there and she counted them, the way the mind sometimes latches onto something mechanical when everything else has become impossible to process.

"You are banished from Berlin Pack territory effective immediately. If you return without permission, I will treat you as a rogue threat. If you are confirmed rogue, I will handle you accordingly." He paused. "If you ever come back, I will kill you myself."

He turned away. The pack did not move. Not one of sixty-three wolves shifted their weight or cleared their throat or did anything that might draw attention to themselves in the moment following.

Kira stood in the centre of the floor in her white dress and felt the mate-bond tear. It did not feel the way she had imagined pain would feel. It felt like cold. A specific, spreading cold that moved from her chest outward to her fingers and then settled into something that would not leave for a very long time.

She walked out.

She did not run. She would not run. She had done nothing wrong and she would not perform shame she had not earned, not for the cameras, not for the sixty-three faces carefully looking at the floor, not for Rolf Hagen whose expression she now read, as the door of the Luna club closed behind her, with perfect clarity.

He had looked relieved.

The Berlin night was cold for September. She sat on a low wall outside the club for eleven minutes, which she knew because she watched the time on her phone, and she felt the tear in the bond settle into scar tissue. She told Seele, quietly and firmly, that this was not the end of anything. That it was, in fact, the beginning.

She believed it. That was not mistake number two. That was the only correct thing she did that night.

Her phone showed sixty-three thousand viewers when she finally looked at the stream count.

She watched the number climb.

Then she stood up, picked up the bag she had left outside because she had known, in the deep instinctive way that Seele always knew things before Kira caught up, that she would not be returning to the pack house tonight. She had packed it this morning without fully understanding why.

She turned south. Away from Neukolln, away from the pack territory, away from the life she had been living in the careful, patient certainty that it was only temporary.

She had been right about that part.

It was temporary. Everything was.

Three years later, the only memory she would still return to was not the words themselves, not the cold, not the cameras. It was the single second before Rolf leaned in to speak, when Leon's eyes had been on her face and something had moved in them, some brief and quickly buried thing, that she had not had time to name before it disappeared.

She had tried, many times, in the dark after battles, to identify what it had been.

She never quite managed it.

Not yet.
