Introduction
From the moment I first saw Aiden, I knew there was something hidden beneath the surface—a pain so raw it echoed in every glance he cast aside. A selfless, loyal man with an unbreakable love for his family, Aiden was haunted by the memories of a love that shattered him. The world asked one question, again and again: How would Aiden Klein love a woman?
But I saw through his mask, to the broken hero underneath. And I realized the truth—Aiden Klein can love so fiercely that it would destroy the woman he chooses.
Because, despite his coldness, I glimpsed it once… and it broke me, too.
He may be the broken hero, but I’m the villain in this story, crossing a line that could ruin us both.
Chapter 1
Age 17
I stare outside the car window, at the beautiful city lights of New York. A smile touches my lips. It's been a long time since I came here, the city that never sleeps.
Sighing, I scan down my outfit for tonight's event. I'm quite satisfied with what I'm wearing -- a halter neck styled tosca dress that crosses over at the front, fitted waist, leg slit. My long wavy blonde hair is swept on one side. This should be appropriate enough to attend one of the biggest events this year.
I glance at my cousin, Sienna, who's sitting in the car next to me. She looks gorgeous in her one-shoulder maroon dress.
Her elder brother, Max, sits near the other car window, typing something on his phone. He also looks well-groomed in his navy suit.
Sitting at the front seats are Aunt Melanie and Uncle Vaughn. Dad is currently overseas for a business trip, accompanied by Mom. Sending me here to stay with his sister during the summer holiday is preferable rather than having me sulking alone in our home in Texas. He has heard too much of my excitement to spend summer in New York.
Besides spending time with my beloved cousins, aunt, and uncle, I also plan to meet my friends here. I'm going to have the best summer holiday ever.
"Luna can't wait to see us," Max announces in a happy tone, letting us know that his fiancee is already waiting for us to arrive.
Right. Fiancee.
Who would get engaged just right after starting college? That's them, Max and Luna.
Everybody knows how in love they are, and I can see why he's crazy about her -- Luna Klein is one of the sweetest people I've ever met.
So when Max told us that he'd proposed to Luna, while also making it clear that they would only get married once they graduated from college, no one objected.
Uncle Vaughn and Aunt Melanie have grown close to Luna's parents, Lucas and Cassandra Klein. Everybody knows Lucas and Cassandra Klein as the world's most loved celebrity couple, a well-known billionaire and a superstar. Even until today, the Kleins never fail to make reporters and paparazzi swarm around them.
Since they are now really close with Max's family, they wouldn't celebrate tonight's event without them. The said event has been attracting the media's attention since the moment they first announced it. And that is their son's wedding.
Aiden Klein's wedding.
Tonight, at the age of 26, Aiden Klein will tie the knot with his future wife. And that's why we're all here in this car, heading to the most phenomenal wedding hall in New York.
After we reach the building, we get out of the car. Uncle Vaughn leaves it to the valet. My heart is beating fast when I stare at the grand entrance. The place is packed with celebrities. There are too many famous faces I recognize -- well-known actresses and actors, supermodels, singers, socialites, politicians, and businessmen.
Damn. Tonight's event is definitely one to be carved in history. Aiden Klein's wedding is the biggest one held in New York this year.
"Oh my God, remind me to behave," Sienna whisper shouts in my ear as we climb the stairs in the main lobby. "There are so many people here I want to take pictures with."
I chuckle, and when we arrive in the main venue of the reception -- a hall so huge and glamorous, filled with even more well-groomed guests -- my breath catches in my throat. I see reporters interviewing some guests and the media staff documenting the event. This wedding will definitely be aired on TV although it won't be broadcasted live.
Max strides toward Luna, who's waiting in one of the rows close to the altar, looking beautiful in her silver long-sleeve gown, her hair styled in an elegant twisted bun. She waves at us, and when we approach her, she greets Max with a quick kiss on the lips.
Max stares at her with loving eyes. "You look beautiful." He can't hide his adoration. "And happy. And nervous."
"Of course, I am." Luna sighs as she smiles. "It's my brother's wedding."
She then engulfs Sienna into a hug, and when they pull away, both of them squeal in excitement. She has grown close to her future sister-in-law, definitely. They're practically best friends now.
"Nevaeh." Luna beams, finally turning to me, her eyes sparkling with delight. "Thank you for coming here." We hug each other, and a warm smile spreads across her lips. "It's so good to see you again. I missed you."
"I missed you too." I return her smile, feeling grateful to be here tonight to celebrate this important event with them.
"Come sit here." She gestures for us to sit with her.
Max sits beside her. Sienna is next to him, and then me. I can't help but travel my eyes around the place. I've never been in a hall this big.
I spot Uncle Vaughn and Aunt Melanie greeting Luna's parents. Cassandra Klein embraces Aunt Melanie in a hug, while Uncle Vaughn talks to Lucas. Both Lucas and Cassandra look overwhelmed. Of course, their son is getting married -- they must be feeling emotional.
When my gaze finally darts on the groom, I hold my breath. I never question how handsome Aiden Klein is, but he looks even better now in his tux, and with his brown hair styled in classic slicked back.
He's talking to Cal Jackson, one of the world's most loved superstars and his mother's good friend in the music industry. Cal is here with his wife and children. I see Jasmine Jackson and the famous twin brothers tagging along.
"I can't believe that it's finally happening." Luna's voice snaps me out of my trance, causing me to shift my attention from what's happening around the groom. "Can't you believe it? He's finally getting married to the woman he's been in love with for a long time. They're finally tying the knot after being together for five years," she says dreamily to Max.
I'm listening intently as she spills her brother's love life.
"I knew that they wanted to do it earlier, but they had to wait until Olivia finished her master degree in London," Luna says. "Two years of long-distance was nothing to them, though. In fact, it made their relationship even stronger. Once she came back here, everything happened so fast, and I can't believe that we're here now." Luna wipes her happy tears, looking extremely glad. "I'm sorry, I just..." She takes a deep breath, while Max takes her hand in his. "I don't know why I'm getting so emotional." She chuckles lightly. "I guess I'm just so happy for him. My brother is marrying his first love. His true love."
I've heard about this woman, Olivia Stone. Max has briefed us about her in the car, during our ride here. She's the daughter of a successful businessman, Alexander Stone. She's a perfect match for someone like Aiden. Aiden and Olivia met in college and have done a good job in making their relationship as private as possible, away from the media. Since the wonderful news of them getting married hit the headline, people have been talking about them nonstop.
"You'll be a bride soon too," Max whispers to Luna and kisses her knuckle, close to the engagement ring he gave her. She smiles at him, her eyes still glistening with happy tears.
I shift my gaze to Aiden again, who indeed looks contented tonight. The smile never leaves his face when he talks to his guests. His eyes glint with happiness, and laughter escapes from his lips as he listens to their jokes. The moment the guests excuse themselves, Aiden takes a deep breath and lets out a long sigh, as if to calm down his racing heartbeat.
There's no doubt that he's trying to hold his excitement. He looks totally in love. Even I, who know nothing about them, can see that Aiden Klein loves Olivia Stone.
A smile curves on my lips. I'm happy for them. Olivia is a lucky woman to have a man who loves her that hard.
"Did you hear that just now? My stomach just growled," Sienna echoes, stealing my attention. She bites her bottom lip. "I'm fucking hungry."
I laugh at what she just said. The next moments are spent with us chit-chatting and taking selfies, with Luna and Max too.
"I need to go to the restroom," I say, making Sienna raise her eyebrows.
She then looks around, and I notice that most of the guests have already settled in their seats. "What are you doing? The ceremony will start soon."
I chuckle. I'd rather miss the procession than hold my bladder for any minute longer. "I'll be back soon."

On Christmas Eve, I aborted the CEO's child
On Christmas Eve night, my husband brought his mistress home and demanded that I, his pregnant wife, leave with nothing.
On this day, I lost my husband and also lost the child in my womb...
I Loved You in Silence, You Betrayed Me in French
At my birthday party, my husband whispered to his mistress in French that he missed her. His voice was low, but I heard it all—the black lingerie, the bit about how pregnancy makes you more sensitive. His French clients around us were laughing. He turned and put his arm around me, claiming he was just helping his clients come up with sweet nothings.
He doesn't know I understand every single word. Just like he doesn't know that inside my body, I'm carrying his other surprise. And his mistress—she's pregnant too. Two wombs, one secret.
Confrontation would be too cheap. Tears are worthless. I quietly started cataloging the hidden networks my father left behind, activating the Swiss accounts.
In seven days, Zoey Smith will cease to exist. And what will my husband's reaction be?
When I Disappeared, He Regretted It
The moment the screen lit up, my entire world came crashing down.
The woman on the bed was Calista - that girl who grew up with us since we were kids. And that hand caressing her skin was wearing the wedding ring I had personally put on Matteo's finger.
"I've missed you so much..."
"You drive me crazy, baby..."
Those sweet words I knew so well completely destroyed me.
Everyone said we were the perfect couple, but who knew this marriage was built on nothing but lies?
Since he's so good at acting, I guess it's time I gave him a show of my own. I'm going to make sure everyone sees what this "perfect husband" really is...
The Family Sacrifice
I simply said one word: "Okay."
My parents and Gilbert were stunned. They rushed to have me sign the voluntary donation form, afraid I’d change my mind.
Some days later, they sent me to the operating room.
Dad said, "Yvonne will finally be saved. We're so proud of you."
Mom said, "After the surgery, we'll make it up to you."
Gilbert looked tenderly at Yvonne and said, "When you're better, where should we travel?"
What they didn't know was that the day I agreed, I'd just received my diagnosis, stage four cancer. Three months to live.
As I lay on the cold operating table, as the anesthesia began to take effect, I only wanted to know one thing:
If I die on this operating table, will they regret it?
He Never Loved Me, Until I Left
I put away the divorce agreement with a wry smile.
When he and my son completely disappeared, he finally panicked.
Three months later .
He knelt down on the streets of Chicago in despair, begging me to remarry him.
My six-year-old son looked coldly at his biological father and said, "Get lost, you bad uncle! You don't deserve to be my dad!"
He Thought I'd Never Leave
When he said he was being bullied, I believed him. When he kissed me on that rooftop, I thought he felt the same. When he asked me to transfer schools with him, I said yes without hesitation.
Then I heard him bragging to his friends: "She'd save her first time for me. Hell, she'd still be thinking of me on her wedding night."
The bullying was staged. The kiss meant nothing. He just wanted me gone—so his new girl could feel more comfortable.
He thought I'd beg. He thought I'd cry. He thought I'd never actually leave.
I left the country.
And ran straight into his stepbrother.
I Died While They Threw Her a Party
Their real daughter came home. She'd only been back two years. That's all it took to erase twenty-four.
When kidnappers grabbed us, I used my body as a shield. They beat me until something inside me ruptured. I was dying from internal bleeding, but no one could tell.
My parents wouldn't even look at me. "This is your fault! None of this would've happened if it weren't for you!"
"Get downstairs and apologize to your sister. If you can't, pack your things and get out."
They threw her a party at a downtown hotel while I died alone in my room.
I thought they'd be relieved. Maybe even glad. I thought they'd just move on like I never existed.
But when they finally learned the truth, they fell apart.
Bury Me in His Regret
The kidnapper pressed the gun to my temple and asked, "Choose your wife or your sister-in-law?"
Zachary didn't hesitate. "Let Valerie go," he said.
He actually chose to save his sister-in-law! In that moment, even the baby in my belly seemed to stop kicking.
Later, they locked me in the basement. Drugs to delay labor were pumped into my veins over and over. Zachary wanted to save the "firstborn son" status for his sister-in-law's child.
When warm blood finally soaked through my skirt, I dialed the number I knew by heart with shaking hands.
"Zachary," I whispered into the phone, "our child... can't wait any longer."
The Kidney That Killed Me
A few months ago, my sister was hospitalized with kidney failure. The doctor said she needed a transplant. My family's first thought was me—the backup daughter they'd kept around all these years.
When my husband Allen took my hand with tears in his eyes and said, "Only you can save her," I agreed without hesitation.
When the doctor explained the surgical risks and potential complications, I smiled and nodded my understanding.
My parents said I'd finally learned what sisterly love meant.
Even Allen, who'd always been cold to me, held my hand gently and said, "The surgery's safe. You're so healthy, nothing will go wrong. When you recover, I'll take you to Hawaii."
But they don't know that no matter how the surgery goes, I won't be around to celebrate.
Because I just got my own test results—I have terminal brain cancer. I'm going to die anyway.
After the Affair: Falling into a Billionaire's Arms
From first crush to wedding vows, George Capulet and I had been inseparable. But in our seventh year of marriage, he began an affair with his secretary.
On my birthday, he took her on vacation. On our anniversary, he brought her to our home and made love to her in our bed...
Heartbroken, I tricked him into signing divorce papers.
George remained unconcerned, convinced I would never leave him.
His deceptions continued until the day the divorce was finalized. I threw the papers in his face: "George Capulet, from this moment on, get out of my life!"
Only then did panic flood his eyes as he begged me to stay.
When his calls bombarded my phone later that night, it wasn't me who answered, but my new boyfriend Julian.
"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"
George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"
"I'm afraid that's impossible."
Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."
Alpha Nicholas's Little Mate
What? No—wait… oh Moon Goddess, no.
Please tell me you're joking, Lex.
But she's not. I can feel her excitement bubbling under my skin, while all I feel is dread.
We turn the corner, and the scent hits me like a punch to the chest—cinnamon and something impossibly warm. My eyes scan the room until they land on him. Tall. Commanding. Beautiful.
And then, just as quickly… he sees me.
His expression twists.
"Fuck no."
He turns—and runs.
My mate sees me and runs.
