Chau · Completed · 5.7k Words
Introduction
I was about to tell him the happy news that I was pregnant.
He was tender and affectionate in front of me, kissing my cheek from time to time.
But they didn't know my German was fluent enough to understand every dirty detail.
Like right now, I heard him bragging to the client about how wild things got last night with his stepsister Lillian.

Chapter 1
At the dinner party, Alexander had his arm around my waist, chatting cheerfully with his business partner in German.
My hand rested on my belly, my heart full of the sweet secret I was about to share—after five years of marriage, we were finally going to have a baby.
Once they finished talking, I would tell him the good news.
After wrapping up business, Kruger changed the subject to Alexander's stepsister, Lillian. "...Lillian is such a goddess in bed. She can take all of me in her mouth."
Alexander smiled knowingly. "She has no limits in bed. We got a bit carried away with our games last night—the handcuffs left marks on her wrists, but she was still begging for more. I admit I lost control. This morning, she could barely get out of bed. Otherwise, she definitely would have shown up at tonight's party."
My heart stopped.
They didn't know that my aunt in Berlin had taught me German since I was little.
I understood every single word of their conversation.
I remembered this morning when I knocked on Lillian's door, wanting to invite her to the dinner party. Her voice sounded lazy as she said, "No thanks, I'm not feeling well today."
I had even asked with concern if she needed a doctor.
She laughed dramatically, then said to me in a sweet voice, "Eileen, you're so nice, but don't worry about me. You and Alex go ahead."
"Your wife is right next to you. Aren't you worried she'll overhear?" Kruger smiled and nodded at me.
I looked up, forcing myself to smile, and nodded back in greeting.
I asked, "What are you talking about? Sounds fun."
"Oh, Mr. Brown was telling me about the opera house in Munich," Alexander lowered his head and lied gently in English, "and some local culture."
"Honey, are you tired from standing? This business talk is boring. Why don't you go sit over there?" He pointed thoughtfully toward where the ladies were. "Don't wear yourself out just to keep me company."
I forced myself to stay calm, then walked toward the group of women with a smile on my face.
After I turned around, I heard Kruger continue in German, "So your wife doesn't understand German."
"Eileen!" The senator's wife greeted me warmly. "You're so lucky. The way Alexander looks at you—he treats you like a treasure."
"Yes," the banker's wife said enviously. "Still so in love after five years of marriage. He's so thoughtful with you."
I smiled mechanically.
My mind kept flashing back to the lipstick marks Lillian left on Alexander's cheek every morning, her walking around the house in revealing nightwear, and that one dinner when the three of us sat together—I was cutting my steak when I suddenly felt something brush against my calf under the table.
I looked up in surprise. Alexander was focused on his phone, while Lillian gave me an innocent smile. At the time I thought she'd bumped into me by accident...
I used to envy their close sibling relationship. Now I understood those were all traces of lust.
"Sorry, I need some fresh air."
I escaped to the terrace, my fingers trembling as I dialed Professor Hamilton's number.
"Eileen?" The professor's voice was surprised.
"Professor, about the Amazon rainforest international ecology research project... I accept."
"Really?" The professor's voice was full of delight. "That's wonderful! Your talent shouldn't be buried in the greenhouse of a wealthy family. But Eileen, you need to know—once you enter the research station deep in the rainforest, there's no cell service, and the conditions are pretty rough..."
"I only have one condition," I interrupted him, my tone resolute. "Classify my file as top secret. I don't want anyone—especially my husband—to find me."
There was silence on the other end for a few seconds. "Eileen, confidential status means you'll completely 'disappear.' Alexander will never be able to reach you again... Eileen, what happened?"
"He cheated," I gripped the phone tightly. "With his stepsister. I've decided to divorce him."
"What?!" The professor's voice shot up, full of anger. "That bastard! Your parents died saving him, and he dares to betray you like this!"
At the mention of my parents, my heart felt like it was being torn apart.
Years ago, they sacrificed their lives to save him from a shipwreck.
The professor's tone was firm. "Give me five days, and you can disappear completely!"
"Thank you, Professor."
Just then, a hand reached from behind and gently took my phone away.
My whole body went rigid. I slowly turned around.
Alexander stood there, moonlight outlining his perfect features.
He held the phone to his ear, while his other hand gently smoothed my wind-blown hair.
His lips still wore that usual doting smile, but his eyes were unfathomable, like dark currents beneath a calm sea.
"Who wants a divorce?"

But no, I had to walk through the park at midnight like an idiot. Now I've seen something I can't unsee—a massive black wolf tearing apart three men, then shifting into the hottest guy I've ever laid eyes on.
Kieran Vaughn. Wealthy lawyer, werewolf, and apparently, he thinks I'm his mate.
Here's the problem: I don't do relationships. I definitely don't do supernatural things. I absolutely don't do rich guys who think they can control my life just because their inner wolf has decided I smell like home.
When hunters start targeting me to get to him, Kieran drags me into his pristine penthouse for "protection." Now I'm living with a man who looks at me like I'm his last meal, whose touch sets my skin on fire, and who's barely holding onto his control.
He says everyone he loves dies. I say that's not my problem except it is because I'm falling for this broken, dangerous man and his beast.
And in his world? Love will get you killed.
GO ON YOUR KNEES, ALPHA.
He was wrong.
Six years ago, Pete Leadsilver had everything an Alpha could want. Power, a respected pack and a future already written for him.
Then he met me.
What began as a game became a mistake I would spend years trying to survive. When I told him I was carrying his child, Pete chose not to believe me. He rejected me, humiliated me, and allowed the people around him to make sure I understood that there was no place for me in his world.
So I disappeared.
I took the secret of my pregnancy with me and built a life far away from the Alpha who had broken me.
Six years later, Pete finds me again. Only this time, he isn't the man with all the power. His pack is dying, his people are running out of time, and I may be the only person capable of saving them.
But I'm no longer the woman Pete remembers. And beside me is a little boy who carries far too much of Pete's face to be a coincidence.
Our reunion should have been about a cure, but instead, it becomes the beginning of a war neither of us saw coming.
Because Pete's greatest danger isn't outside his pack.
It's inside his own family.
Old resentment turns into manipulation. Loyalty becomes betrayal. And the people Pete trusts begin hiding secrets that threaten to destroy everything he's built.
Then someone comes for the people I love.
Suddenly, this is no longer about whether Pete can earn my forgiveness.
It's about whether he can keep me alive.
Whether he can protect the son he never knew existed.
Whether he can uncover the truth before the people closest to him destroy everything he has finally learned to value.
Along the way, we'll lose people we thought would always stand beside us, I'll be forced to confront wounds I've spent six years trying to bury, and the family we're slowly building will be tested in ways neither of us could have imagined.
Because sometimes love isn't the hardest thing to find. Sometimes it's the hardest thing to survive.
Pete once believed power meant never needing anyone and I once believed surviving him meant leaving him behind.
We were both wrong.
Because some bonds refuse to die, some betrayals cut deeper than rejection and some people don't come back into your life to give you a second chance.
They come back to show you exactly what you almost lost.
Pete Leadsilver lost me once.
This time, he'll have to fight to keep the family he never knew he needed.
