Introduction

Young alpha Drey Locsin had everything planned out for his life. At age eighteen he would meet his mate, court her and eventually get married to her and raise pups, but all that planning went to shambles when he didn't find his mate on his eighteenth birthday or even two years later.
And when he eventually did find his mate, they turned out to be male

Chapter 1

Drey Locsin had everything planned out for his life from the moment he was old enough to reason.

At eighteen, he would meet his mate. They would complete their studies, settle into their chosen fields, and eventually take over the family business—his future already secured as his father’s heir.

They would marry, have two or three pups, and live happily ever after.

A very simple dream.

One achievable to almost every werewolf. A life that followed a familiar sequence, a path that never seemed to fail.

Yet on the night of the first of September—his eighteenth birthday—everything went wrong.

Drey had invited the entire Delrago Park to celebrate with him. Thousands of guests filled the Locsin mansion, laughter echoing through its halls, music spilling into the gardens. He searched every face, waited for that undeniable pull every werewolf spoke of.

But it never came.

He did not find his mate.

Sympathy followed swiftly once word spread. It was rare—almost unheard of—to invite the entire park and still come up empty-handed.

“Maybe she wasn’t in town.”

“Perhaps she’s not one for parties.”

Drey held on to those words as hope, clinging to them as days turned into weeks. He began to search places others rarely went; mountain tops, temples, secluded boarding schools, distant hotels, anywhere his mate might be hiding.

Six months passed.

Then a year.

By then, many of his peers had already found theirs, planning weddings and futures that seemed so effortlessly within reach. Two years went by with nothing to show for his efforts, and frustration slowly began to eat away at him. The easygoing alpha he once was faded, replaced by someone sharper, angrier. He snapped at people over the smallest things, barely recognizing himself anymore.

So, as a last resort...

“What? To the States? Why all of a sudden?”

Percy Locsin stared at his son in astonishment from across the rich oak table in his study.

At forty-six, Percy looked remarkably young, so much so that he could pass for Drey’s older brother rather than his father.

“Unlike us,” Drey began, his voice tight, “who still cling to traditions, people abroad are more open. Wild, even. I’ve heard cases like mine are more common there.” He exhaled sharply. “Maybe I’ll find someone like me. Someone… without a mate. I can’t take this anymore, Dad.”

Percy said nothing at first. He only stared at his son, sympathy softening his features. Eventually, he sighed in defeat.

“I’ll have Mr. Saul work out the transfer process.”

Relief washed over Drey.

Percy stood and came around the table, resting a firm, comforting hand on Drey’s shoulder. “Whoever she turns out to be,” he said gently, “you return with her to the pack. Remember—your home is here.”

Those words echoed in Drey’s mind as he sat in the airport days later, waiting for his flight to be called.

He scanned the crowd desperately, senses heightened, heart pounding. This was his last chance. Once he boarded that plane, Delrago would be behind him forever.

No miracle happened.

Soon, he was seated on the plane, flying farther away from home than he ever had before.

The same question repeated itself over and over in his mind.

Was his mate dead… or was he created without one?

Impossible.

No werewolf was created without a mate. Even if one died, fate would bind them to another who had also lost theirs. The Moon Goddess was not cruel, she never abandoned her children to loneliness.

Unless they were meant to be alone.

“Hi! I’m Oliver Swines. I’ll be your guide here in Esparado until you’re fully settled.”

The tall, energetic man greeted Drey the moment he approached the placard bearing his name.

Oliver was slightly shorter than Drey, with blond hair, light brown eyes, and an ever-present smile that seemed etched into his face. His features were soft and pleasant—plump lips, a button nose, and fair, porcelain-like skin.

He was the complete opposite of Drey whose raven-black hair was messy, parted down the middle. His black doe eyes looked dull with exhaustion, and his thin lips were chapped. Yet he stood tall and broad-shouldered, every inch an alpha—even if he looked like a troubled one.

A hot one, Oliver subconsciously noted as he grabbed Drey’s luggage.

The two alphas had never formally met before, though they had attended the same high school in Delrago. Drey a junior, Oliver a senior.

Drey had been in the sports club, Oliver in music and drama, their paths rarely crossing. Their families were just as different: Percy Locsin, a wealthy merchant; Roland Swines, a decorated army commander.

During the drive to Drey’s villa, Oliver talked endlessly about Esparado, its lively people, open-minded culture, and freedom of expression. Drey listened quietly, responding only when necessary. While he desperately needed this openness, part of him longed for the structured, homey life of Delrago, where everyone knew their roles and fulfilled them to keep the park whole.

Esparado felt… loose.

Here, mature omegas walked freely without marks, unbothered, living on their own terms.

After hours of driving, they arrived at a sleek penthouse situated within a beautiful estate. The tall glass structure overlooked the vast cityscape, the ocean stretching endlessly behind it, waves rolling in gently.

Drey liked the view. It soothed something tired deep within him.

As he stepped out of the black Maserati, his eyes fell on the fountain at the entrance—a statue of a smiling woman pouring water endlessly from a jar.

He sighed.

Oliver was already inside with his luggage, calling for him to follow. Just as Drey turned to do so, a scent hit him.

Sweet.

Faint at first—so faint he almost dismissed it—but then it grew stronger, closer. His heart stuttered as he looked around.

A black power motorbike sped past behind him.

Drey spun around, eyes locking onto the figure astride it. As if sensing his gaze, the rider stopped and turned toward him.

MATE! his wolf roared.

He didn’t care that the rider’s face was hidden beneath a large black helmet. Nothing else mattered.

Drey took a step forward, heart racing.

The bike roared to life again and sped away.

“Wait!” Drey shouted, lunging after it when strong fingers suddenly wrapped around his arm.

“Drey, hold up!” Oliver said urgently. “You don’t want to get lost in Esparado. Do you know that rude guy or something?” He paused, realization dawning. “Actually—yeah, maybe you do. But trust me, he’s not someone you want to get involved with.”

“He?” Drey echoed sharply. “Did you just say he?”

Oliver frowned at him but said nothing more, dragging him inside.

The rest of the day passed in a blur. All Drey could think about was his mate.

Oliver had to be mistaken. There was no way his mate was male. The Moon Goddess did not make such mistakes.

Still, excitement thrummed through him—something he hadn’t felt since his eighteenth birthday.

That night, Drey slept with a smile on his face, dreams filled with faceless images and imagined memories of a future finally within reach.

The next day, he headed to school to complete his registration. Thanks to his father, the process was quick. He was just on his way heading to class when that scent hit him again, stronger than before.

He stopped abruptly, heart hammering as he weaved through the crowded hallway until he collided with a pair of wide, glassy brown eyes.

Small pointed nose, plump lips, soft, symmetrical face framed by brown hair

Beautiful.

The person took a step back, and Drey instinctively reached out...

That was when they turned and ran

Drey froze

Because now he knew

His mate was truly male.

"You drive me insane," he breathed against my mouth, his lips trailing to my throat. "I can't lose you, Ella. Not you."
My head fell back, a soft sound escaping me as his fingers memorized my waist. My anger melted beneath his desperation.
"James..." I whispered, more plea than protest.
His hand caught mine, fingers threading together tightly. "I'll bring him back. I swear it. Just... don't turn away from me. Please."
The word please—low, ragged, almost broken—undid me more than anything else could have.

"How thoughtful."
"Bella." Ethan's tone shifted, taking on that warning edge I knew too well. "Faye is vulnerable right now. She's terrified you'll resent her, that this will divide the pack. The last thing she wants is for this baby to come between us."
"Then you shouldn't have done it." I met his eyes squarely, letting him see the ice in mine. "Go back to your son."
"For fuck's sake." He dragged a hand through his hair. "How many times—it was artificial insemination. They used my sperm, yes, but Faye and I never—"
Bella let out a cold snort. Such brazen lies. Her mate had an affair with his brother's partner, and his entire family helped force her out with nothing, all to make way for the mistress to take her rightful position. Poor fool—he thought she was just an unwanted adopted daughter, easy to dismiss and control. He never knew the computer genius he'd been searching for was his own Luna.
Since he'd tainted himself, Bella was done. She rejected him and reclaimed what was hers, rising to the top with help from Victor, who'd been secretly in love with her for years.

Bella smiled mockingly. "The child's father isn't you."
