My Captain Learned My Silence

Introduction
Not since the night that took both my parents away. I was the only witness. And I never told anyone what I saw — not even my brother, who spent years trying to get me out of my shell.
Until him.
Aren Caedmon, 22 years.
Captain of the Highland Hurricanes hockey team.
And my brother's best friend.
I used to avoid him.
Until that night I was supposed to be home, but instead I was training at the rink beside his ice. In leg warmers and pointe shoes.
In HIS oversized Hurricanes hoodie number 22 — which I thought was my brother's.
He didn't ask me to speak.
He learned my language.
But my brother had one rule: Stay away from his best friend.
Now I'm wearing Aren's jersey in the front row of every game.
His number on my back. His name on my skin. And I'm falling for the one guy I was never supposed to want.
Chapter 1
I haven't said a word in thirteen years.
Selective mutism, the doctors called it, a few weeks after the night I lost my parents. No one knows what happened that night; I’m the key witness, but I refused to say anything, even to my brother.
The words exist. I can feel them behind my teeth. But when someone looks at me and waits for my response, my throat closes, and nothing comes out.
I stopped fighting it a long time ago.
My name is Isadora Saint. I'm twenty, a junior at Highland University, and a ballet major. I'm very good at being overlooked.
I like it that way. Mostly.
My life is simple.
Classes in the morning. Rehearsal in the afternoon. Dinner with Jolie, my best friend and roommate, who talks enough for both of us. She learned sign language in a single weekend, just so I wouldn't have to type everything. She has never once made me feel like my silence was a problem.
At ten every night, my phone buzzes.
Love you, Iz. Lock your door.
That's my brother, Jace. He's two years older, the center for the Highland Hurricanes, and the only family I have left. After our parents died, he read me comic books through my bedroom door for months. He never asked me to talk. When I finally opened the door, he just scooted over to make room.
He has one rule for me. He said it the day I moved into the dorms.
Stay away from Aren Caedmon.
I didn't need the rule.
Aren is Jace's best friend, captain of the Hurricanes, a senior. When we were kids, he was always at our aunt's house, eating our cereal and falling asleep on the couch. He ruffled my hair once on his way past. He never asked why I didn't speak. He just said hey, kid, and kept walking.
I remember feeling grateful. I also remember feeling hurt. I never figured out how to separate the two.
Now he's number twenty-two.A popular boy in our school.
He's the laugh at the center of every table, the tall shape I can spot across a courtyard from two hundred feet away.
So I developed a habit.
If he walks into a room, I leave. If his team is in the library, I take the other stairs. At home games, I sit in the top row and leave before the final buzzer.
Once, I hid in a stairwell for ten minutes because I saw a dark head in a blue hoodie and my heart wouldn't calm down.
"You know he's not going to bite," Jolie said to me once.
I know.
"He's literally just a guy."
I know.
I knew something else too, and I didn't tell her.
I was almost sure Aren didn't know who I was.
Three years on the same campus, and he had never looked my way. Not a nod, not a smile, not even the careless hey, kid from when I was small.
To him, I was probably just a quiet girl with a ballet bag. Jace's little sister, if he remembered at all.
Avoiding him was easier than watching him not notice me.
That Thursday in October, I wasn't supposed to be out.
Jace had texted at six: Team dinner. Back by eleven. Don't go anywhere.
I sent a thumbs-up. Jolie raised an eyebrow. The thumbs-up had been too fast.
The studio got double-booked; I signed. They moved me to Summit Rink. Nine to midnight. It's empty.
Alone?
I'll be fine.
She tossed me her phone charger.
"Text me when you're back. Or I'm calling your brother."
I took my duffel bag, my pointe shoes, and a blue hoodie I'd grabbed off Jace's chair that morning. It smelled like his laundry soap. It hung to my knees. The back said HURRICANES in white letters, with a number underneath. I didn't check which one. Jace borrowed hoodies like other people borrowed pens.
Summit Rink was old and half-forgotten. At the end of a side corridor, there was a tiny practice studio with a wall of mirrors and a barre. Through the thin wall, I could hear the Zamboni on the ice.
I laced my pointe shoes. I pulled on my leg warmers. I pressed play.
For the first time all week, I forgot everything.
I danced until my feet ached and my hair fell loose and the sweatshirt clung to my back. When the music ended, I stood in the middle of the floor with my arms still raised, breathing hard, and looked up at the mirror.
Someone was standing in the doorway behind me.
Tall. Dark hair, still damp from the ice. A blue warm-up jacket, a hockey bag on one shoulder. He wasn't smiling. He just looked at me with such curiosity that make my legs go weak.
But when I recognize the tall figure.
My whole body went cold.
Aren Caedmon.
We both didn’t move. He just stood there watching me.
Then, very softly, in a voice that I didn’t recognize at all, he said the one thing I never expected.
"Isadora."

Then a message arrived from someone called Sweet An.
Do you really know your husband?
From that day on, my life filled with shadows.
I suspected my husband of having an affair.
When Lucas and I made love, something felt wrong — his body too large, too much, like something I couldn't explain.
I heard sounds during sex — animal sounds, like something feral had crawled into bed with us.
My best friend Mia said: "There are men sick enough to let dogs fuck their wives."
The family doctor, Daisy, told me: "You could never stay by Lucas's side forever. Your background doesn't make you worthy of being his wife. Do you understand?"
I went looking for whoever had been tearing my marriage apart. I fought to win my husband back.
But the deeper I searched, the larger the secret grew — something far darker hiding beneath this supposed betrayal.
Does Lucas truly love me?
And why, out of everyone in the world, did he choose to marry me?

Accardi
“I thought you said you were done chasing me?” Gen mocked.
“I am done chasing you.”
Before she could formulate a witty remark, Matteo threw her down. She landed hard on her back atop his dining room table. She tried to sit up when she noticed what he was doing. His hands were working on his belt. It came free of his pants with a violent yank. She collapsed back on her elbows, her mouth gaping open at the display. His face was a mask of sheer determination, his eyes were a dark gold swimming with heat and desire. His hands wrapped around her thighs and pulled her to the edge of the table. He glided his fingers up her thighs and hooked several around the inside of her panties. His knuckles brushed her dripping sex.
“You’re soaking wet, Genevieve. Tell me, was it me that made you this way or him?” his voice told her to be careful with her answer. His knuckles slid down through her folds and she threw her head back as she moaned. “Weakness?”
“You…” she breathed.

Letters to a Dark Prince
Thrown into Isteros Academy—a world of old money, blood money, and cruel social games—she's an outsider by birth and an afterthought by design. Her sister Solyn is the school's untouchable queen and Mara is her favorite target.
Everyone expects Atreus to treat his fiancée’s scholarship sister like everyone else does—as if she doesn’t matter.
Instead, his dorm room sits directly across from hers, close enough that she can see his light go out at night. Some nights, he climbs the old maintenance trellis just to check on her. He teaches her chess. He shows up exactly when something's gone wrong—and never once asks to be thanked for it.
"Don't fall in love with one piece," he warns her, over a board neither of them treats like a game anymore. "It punishes the person who only sees half of it."
Mara doesn't understand why the boy who's supposed to make her life harder keeps quietly making it easier—not until she realizes the anonymous stranger she's been writing to every week already has a name.
His.
He doesn't know he's writing to her, either.
By the time they find out, it's too late to stop what's already happening. Far too dangerous for anyone to find out.
In an empty studio, in the middle of a rainstorm, she asks him: 'Am I the kind of girl who kisses a boy engaged to my sister?'
He doesn't answer.
So she asks: 'What are we?’
He told her not to fall in love with one piece.
She fell anyway.
And he was never far behind.

Tango 2 the Alpha's Heart
My gaze snapped to his. He was smiling, causing my heart to skip a painful beat. Before I could respond, the music began, and my body instinctively reacted to the sweet melody.
I found myself molded to Lex's will, my feet irresistibly following the dance steps.
The crowd gasped as Lex pulled me into a more intimate position, his hands roaming over my body in a seductive manner.
The experience was both terrifying and magical, allowing me to feel every longing emotion through the dance.
I soon found myself lost in his arms.
When the music finally stopped, my arms were wrapped around his neck, his hands resting on my back, our noses almost touching. He gazed deeply into my eyes.
The ballroom fell silent.
Was he about to kiss me?
