Introduction
After catching her boyfriend cheating, Bree Whitmore makes a reckless decision. She kisses Adrien Campbell, the Falcons’ ruthless hockey captain, in front of everyone.
To protect his reputation and stay on the team, Adrien needs a girlfriend. To survive school and her own reality, Bree needs money.
Fake relationship, no feelings, no complications.
Except Adrien isn’t just arrogant—he’s intense, controlling, and impossible to ignore. And Bree isn’t as invisible as everyone thought.
Nothing about Adrien is fake. Not the way he looks at her. Not the way he protects her. And definitely not the danger that comes with him.
As jealousy turns into obsession and enemies close in, their fake relationship becomes the least of their problems.
Because in a game this dangerous… someone is bound to get hurt.
Chapter 1
BREE’S POV
“You're coming along, right?” Elsie, my best friend screamed, and I could imagine her poking her head out of her room. It was only going to be seconds until she was marching to my own room.
I managed to drag my eyes away from my vibrator, and hide my smutty book underneath my duvet in slight frustration.
Just as expected, she marched up to my room, and her hands were fixed on her waist.
“I wasn't even invited,” I managed to mutter, and she looked at me like I was mad.
“What are you talking about? Your boyfriend's team is playing in the semi finals, and you aren't even going to support him? Please tell me you're joking, Bree.”
That statement was enough to make me sit up immediately.
“Bryan didn't tell me anything about a game,” I said, and I immediately saw all the sunshine wipe away from Elsie's face. She looked like she wanted to say something, but she was choosing her words perfectly.
“Then I suggest you come with me,” she said, trying to maintain her smile.
Bryan probably forgot to tell me. I couldn't deny the fact that things haven't been too good between the both of us all because of his late night hockey practices. But such an important game was too much for him to forget about.
I quickly pushed the thought away, as I got out of bed. “I don't even know what to wear.”
Elsie was smiling again, as she quickly headed to my wardrobe, tossing my clothes on the bed like it owed her money. I didn't even mind.
She ended up holding a black crop top and jeans, bringing me out of my thoughts. “I have the perfect sneakers that would go with these,” she muttered, adding the clothes to the pile, before disappearing into her own room.
My heart was still thudding in my chest. A part of me just wanted to get back into bed, and pretend that everything that happened in the last few minutes was an imagination.
Elsie reappeared before I could pull out the duvet again. She dropped the white sneakers, and I allowed her to convince me to get into the shower.
By the time I was done having my shower, I slipped into the clothes that she picked. I sat down in front of the mirror, and allowed her to tie my hair in a ponytail, with a few strands framing my face.
She took a step back, grinning as she admired her hand work. “Perfect,” she said, adjusting her own gown. It wasn't the perfect thing to wear to a game, but she was Elsie. “Now, we can go before the game is over.”
She quickly grabbed my hand, leading me to the car. I was wringing my hands in the car, and Elsie put a hand over my thigh.
“You don't have to worry. I'm sure he'll apologize for forgetting to tell you.”
I gave her a small nod and before I knew it, she was parking her car in the school's parking lot.
The both of us walked arm in arm to the hockey stadium and there were cheers coming from all sides of the arena.
Elsie and I managed to find our way through the cheering students, and we finally took our seats.
The players were going crazy on the ice, and I could immediately spot Bryan with his blue number 9 jersey.
Other students in the crowd were holding up the blue placards, with the name, THE FALCONS written on it.
The proud girlfriend in me immediately got up, cheering like crazy. They were winning.
The whistle finally blew, and handshakes were being exchanged among the players. That was when Bryan looked up at the crowd, and I felt my cheeks go pink. He blew a kiss in my direction, and I tried as much as I could, not to look away.
“Go down there and give your boyfriend a kiss,” Elsie urged, and I gave her a nod. Before I knew what I was doing, I was moving through the crowd, locating the stairs, and going down with my ponytail blowing wildly behind me.
Just as I got to the final step, another girl brushed past me, running towards Bryan. His arms were open, and he carried her up just in time to toss his helmet away, and kiss her like his life depended on it.
My knees buckled as I watched his hand find her hair, just as it usually did to mine.
The rest of his teammates had frozen, looking between me and Bryan. Oh, and the new girl.
“What the fuck?” I heard Elsie say beside me, but I could barely make sense of what was happening.
The cheering coming from the crowd seemed to turn into muffles and my eyes searched the players that were still on the field. My eyes landed right on the captain of the team.
Adrien Campbell.
The one person that Bryan couldn't stop talking trash about, every single time we met. Everything on his face told me that he knew.
I quickly wiped the tears on my face.
I didn't know what I was thinking when I walked up to Bryan. He suddenly broke his everlasting kiss with the blonde girl wearing the cheerleading uniform.
“Brittany?” I asked, and she gave me a smirk. I should have known that he would go for her. She was one of the popular girls in the school.
“What are you doing here?” Bryan immediately asked. “I don't remember telling you about a game.”
“Is that your excuse for cheating on her?” Elsie asked, stepping beside me. Before Jamie could even open his mouth to speak, she gave him a firm slap on his cheek.
He smirked as he looked between the both of us. “You were never good enough, Bree. And you've always known that. All you will ever be used for, is the little things you can offer. It was nice while it lasted.”
I could feel tears pricking the back of my eyes.
Adrien was standing right beside the both of us and before I knew what I was doing, I cupped his cheeks, going on tiptoes and slamming my lips against his.
I could feel his hands hover against my back, but it ended up lasting there, and I could feel the heat of his gloves burn into my skin.
I finally pulled away from the kiss, and Adrien's eyes were slightly wide as he looked at me. Even my brain couldn't make any sense as to why I did that.
Cheers were coming from the crowd, but I wasn't willing to pay attention to that.
I turned around shakily, looking at Elsie, who had her jaw on the floor.
“Can we go home now?”
