Chapter 1
Evelyn POV
I woke to sunlight burning through my eyelids.
The white curtain lifted at one corner, spilling light across the foot of the bed where it caught the old wooden chair—this house in Pacific Heights, I'd lived in it for twenty-three years.
But I lay frozen, because the pain in my chest was still there, like someone had reached inside, squeezed my heart, and shoved it back in.
Too quiet. Wrong kind of quiet.
I reached for the tablet on the nightstand, unlocked it with my fingerprint, and the moment the screen lit up, my breathing stopped.
September 28, 2025. Three days until October first.
Three days.
I sank onto the edge of the bed, my mind flooding like a broken levee with another life—the night of October first, countless people collapsing, convulsing, climbing back to their feet with rolled-back eyes, lunging for the nearest living thing.
Then the rain. Ten solid days of torrential downpour, San Francisco submerged like a pot left to boil over, the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge sinking down and never coming back up.
After the rain stopped, people split into three kinds: the rare few who awakened abilities, the majority who turned into zombies, and those like me—no powers, no infection, just dead weight everyone called useless.
I clenched my fists, nails digging into my palms. In my past life, I was that dead weight. Couldn't lift, couldn't fight, couldn't even swing a baseball bat without losing my grip.
I thought of Derek Hall.
The man who'd swiped my cards for three years, whose smile was soft as springtime, who handed me over at the Bay Area military bunker without looking back.
Because he'd already moved on to Kayla Bennett—my best friend through four years of college—and Kayla had something in her possession worth more than a crate of ammunition in the apocalypse.
A ring.
Grandma's hand. Bone-thin, cold, trembling, pressing an old-fashioned silver ring into my palm the day she died, a pea-sized piece of green jade set into the band.
I'd thought it was ugly. Tossed it into the bottom of my jewelry box the second I got home. On my birthday, Kayla spotted it and begged to try it on.
I didn't think twice. I gave it to her.
Grandma never took a thing with her when she died, only wanted to leave me something to remember her by, and I handed it off without a second thought.
I bolted upright, bare feet hitting the floor as I lunged for the vanity, dumped the entire jewelry box onto the surface, dug down to the bottom layer, and there it was—the silver ring.
I closed my fist around it, knuckles white.
This life, I've been reborn from the ashes. I'll protect Ethan, protect the people I care about, and survive.
The thought of Ethan sent a tremor through my body, pain crawling up my spine—the agony of being eaten alive by zombies, starting at my calves and working its way up to my throat.
In my past life, during those two months at the bunker, I had no abilities. I could only trade my body for food, and even that got stolen by Derek and Kayla over and over again—until one of Ethan's squad members stumbled across me by chance and told me my brother had been searching for me for weeks.
Right before Ethan could reach me, those two shoved me into a horde to keep their secret safe.
I unclenched my hand. My palm was covered in crescent-shaped marks.
My phone buzzed twice on the nightstand. A text from Derek.
"Baby, did you eat? Three more days till your birthday—I've got a surprise for you."
I stared at the words, nauseated. The so-called surprise would be him dragging over a pack of freeloaders, buying a cake, and wrecking my place all night. Back then I'd fought with Ethan over this guy. Unbelievably stupid.
I typed: "Derek, we're done."
Send. Block number, block account, delete every chat log and photo. Not a trace left.
When it was done, I flopped back onto the bed and exhaled hard. This lifetime, I never want to see that man again.
Then I shot upright again and dialed Ethan's number.
Off.
It was the same in my past life—he didn't call until my birthday, saying he was stranded at LAX and might not make it back in time, and I'd brushed him off in two sentences and hung up.
This time, I will rise from the ashes. I will do everything to protect my brother, guard those I love, and keep on living.
I left the house that same day, taking the property deed, my documents, every bank card, and every piece of valuable jewelry I owned. The Pacific Heights house was what my parents left me. The downtown apartment was Ethan's gift.
Within half a day, I'd mortgaged the house, maxed out every credit card, and hacked into my company's finance system to funnel the money into offshore accounts.
Tens of millions of dollars. Enough to buy myself three years of survival in this world.
I drove to the biggest warehouse supermarket in San Francisco and pushed a cart down every aisle like a lawnmower—instant noodles, self-heating hotpots, flour, rice, compressed crackers, pork, beef, medicine, tents, hazmat suits, flashlights, gasoline.
Until the cart was too full to push.
Standing in the checkout line, I deflated: I didn't have the space yet. Nowhere to put any of this. I still needed to find a safe house, ride out those ten days of rain, but I couldn't stay—I had to find Ethan first.
I picked up a pack of instant noodles and sighed. If only I could put it in the space.
A chime sounded deep in my mind.
"Space activation successful. Space assistant, Jade, at your service."
The silver ring on my finger flashed with a thread of green light.
Congratulations, host has acquired one cubic meter of space. Next upgrade: ten cubic meters. Upgrade requirement: store apocalypse-useful supplies worth over one thousand dollars. Cash does not count. Instant noodles detected: one package, value $2.50.
A cube appeared before my eyes, one meter on each side, about the size of a street trash can. The pack of noodles sat alone in the center.
I froze for two seconds, then nearly laughed out loud—so in my past life, Kayla had the space all along and still stole my food, because this damn threshold was impossible: scraping together a thousand dollars' worth of supplies in the apocalypse was harder than flying.
But right now, just one layer of my cart was worth more than a thousand.
I murmured "instant noodles" under my breath, and the pack reappeared in my hand. Theory confirmed.
I wanted to vacuum the whole cart in right there, but the camera was overhead and people were all around. I swallowed the impulse and started transferring items one bag at a time, steady and unhurried, all while keeping my ears open to the sounds around me.

My gaze snapped to his. He was smiling, causing my heart to skip a painful beat. Before I could respond, the music began, and my body instinctively reacted to the sweet melody.
I found myself molded to Lex's will, my feet irresistibly following the dance steps.
The crowd gasped as Lex pulled me into a more intimate position, his hands roaming over my body in a seductive manner.
The experience was both terrifying and magical, allowing me to feel every longing emotion through the dance.
I soon found myself lost in his arms.
When the music finally stopped, my arms were wrapped around his neck, his hands resting on my back, our noses almost touching. He gazed deeply into my eyes.
The ballroom fell silent.
Was he about to kiss me?

The CEO Above My Desk
“I know she does.”
“And what if she doesn’t want this kind of protection?”
“She will,” I say, my voice lowering slightly. “Because she needs a man who can give her the world.”
“And if the world burns?”
My hand tightens subtly at Violet’s waist.
“Then I’ll build her a new one,” I reply. “Even if I have to burn the old one down myself.”
I don’t work for Rowan Ashcroft.
I work beneath him.
From my desk, I decide who gets access to the most ruthless CEO in the city, and who never makes it past the lobby. I manage his time, his silence, his enemies. I keep his world running while my own quietly collapses under unpaid bills, a mother locked in rehab, and a brother who vanished without a goodbye.
Rowan Ashcroft is power wrapped in a tailored suit.
Cold. Untouchable. Merciless.
He doesn’t flirt. He doesn’t smile. He doesn’t see people, only usefulness.
And for a long time, I was just useful.
Until he started watching.
A shift in his attention is subtle at first. A pause too long. A look that lingers. Orders that pull me closer instead of pushing me away. The man who stands above my desk begins to control more than my schedule, and I realize too late that being noticed by Rowan Ashcroft is far more dangerous than being ignored.
Because men like him don’t crave affection.
They crave possession.
This was supposed to be a job.
Not a test of my limits.
Not a slow, deliberate descent into his authority.
But if Rowan Ashcroft decides I belong under his desk, then so be it.
Survival has a price, and the bills don’t care how I pay them.
Exchanging Vows: The Swapped Wife Is a Top Shaman
The Lycan Kings and the White Wolf.
GO ON YOUR KNEES, ALPHA.
He was wrong.
Six years ago, Pete Leadsilver had everything an Alpha could want. Power, a respected pack and a future already written for him.
Then he met me.
What began as a game became a mistake I would spend years trying to survive. When I told him I was carrying his child, Pete chose not to believe me. He rejected me, humiliated me, and allowed the people around him to make sure I understood that there was no place for me in his world.
So I disappeared.
I took the secret of my pregnancy with me and built a life far away from the Alpha who had broken me.
Six years later, Pete finds me again. Only this time, he isn't the man with all the power. His pack is dying, his people are running out of time, and I may be the only person capable of saving them.
But I'm no longer the woman Pete remembers. And beside me is a little boy who carries far too much of Pete's face to be a coincidence.
Our reunion should have been about a cure, but instead, it becomes the beginning of a war neither of us saw coming.
Because Pete's greatest danger isn't outside his pack.
It's inside his own family.
Old resentment turns into manipulation. Loyalty becomes betrayal. And the people Pete trusts begin hiding secrets that threaten to destroy everything he's built.
Then someone comes for the people I love.
Suddenly, this is no longer about whether Pete can earn my forgiveness.
It's about whether he can keep me alive.
Whether he can protect the son he never knew existed.
Whether he can uncover the truth before the people closest to him destroy everything he has finally learned to value.
Along the way, we'll lose people we thought would always stand beside us, I'll be forced to confront wounds I've spent six years trying to bury, and the family we're slowly building will be tested in ways neither of us could have imagined.
Because sometimes love isn't the hardest thing to find. Sometimes it's the hardest thing to survive.
Pete once believed power meant never needing anyone and I once believed surviving him meant leaving him behind.
We were both wrong.
Because some bonds refuse to die, some betrayals cut deeper than rejection and some people don't come back into your life to give you a second chance.
They come back to show you exactly what you almost lost.
Pete Leadsilver lost me once.
This time, he'll have to fight to keep the family he never knew he needed.

Letters to a Dark Prince
Thrown into Isteros Academy—a world of old money, blood money, and cruel social games—she's an outsider by birth and an afterthought by design. Her sister Solyn is the school's untouchable queen and Mara is her favorite target.
Everyone expects Atreus to treat his fiancée’s scholarship sister like everyone else does—as if she doesn’t matter.
Instead, his dorm room sits directly across from hers, close enough that she can see his light go out at night. Some nights, he climbs the old maintenance trellis just to check on her. He teaches her chess. He shows up exactly when something's gone wrong—and never once asks to be thanked for it.
"Don't fall in love with one piece," he warns her, over a board neither of them treats like a game anymore. "It punishes the person who only sees half of it."
Mara doesn't understand why the boy who's supposed to make her life harder keeps quietly making it easier—not until she realizes the anonymous stranger she's been writing to every week already has a name.
His.
He doesn't know he's writing to her, either.
By the time they find out, it's too late to stop what's already happening. Far too dangerous for anyone to find out.
In an empty studio, in the middle of a rainstorm, she asks him: 'Am I the kind of girl who kisses a boy engaged to my sister?'
He doesn't answer.
So she asks: 'What are we?’
He told her not to fall in love with one piece.
She fell anyway.
And he was never far behind.
Filled, Owned, and Fucked by My Best Friend’s Father
He was supposed to be off-limits. Untouchable. The kind of man you only fantasize about when you’re alone in the dark with your hand between your thighs.
But the night I caught him eating another woman alive by the pool, I couldn’t look away.
And he knew it.
The moment his dark eyes locked on mine through the glass, I became prey. His filthy smirk promised one thing—he saw me touching myself to him, and he wasn’t about to let me forget it.
Now, every time I’m in his house, I can’t breathe without thinking of his mouth between my legs.
I left my cheating boyfriend behind, only to fall into something even more dangerous:
a man who could ruin me, break me, and make me beg for his cock while his own daughter sleeps in the next room.
He’s too old. Too powerful. Too forbidden.
But Gianni doesn’t ask—he takes.
And I don’t want him to stop.
Taste of Fate: The Vampire King's Human Mate
He reached for the back of my head and pulled me up just enough to reach my neck. When his fangs slid into me, the pain was instant, electric. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t think. My hands found his shoulders, clawing for something to hold. My legs kicked. Tears streamed down my cheeks.
He moaned against my throat as he drank, and the sound was devastating.
