Reborn In His Rejection
Ibe Collins · Ongoing · 145.4k Words
Introduction
Lyssara believed one truth above all else: a mate was sacred. The other half of your soul. A bond meant to be eternal.
Until Kaelrith looked at her with nothing but cold disgust.
The moment their eyes met, Lyssara saw no love, no recognition, no trace of the connection she had dreamed of her entire life. Instead, fate bound her to a man who wanted someone else.
Night after night, she watched him choose Vaelira, her own sister. Every tender word, every stolen moment, every promise of a future that should have been hers was given to another woman while Lyssara faded into the background.
Until she discovered a secret that changed everything.
A tiny heartbeat inside her.
Her child became her strength, her reason to survive, and the one thing she would protect at any cost.
Then Thalric appeared from the shadows. Scarred, dangerous, and untouched by her broken past. He did not try to save her. He simply saw her when everyone else turned away.
But when Lyssara finally learned to stand on her own, Kaelrith realized what he had lost.
Now the man who destroyed her must face the man who helped her rise.
Only one of them is worthy of her heart.
Chapter 1
LYSSARA
I used to think rejection was the worst thing a wolf could survive, but I was wrong. The worst thing was waking up on a cold floor three weeks after the rejection and understanding that the man who looked through you like you were a piece of furniture had left something behind that was very, very real.
I did not remember getting off the bed. I just knew the floorboard was pressing into my cheek, and my body was staging a quiet revolution that had nothing to do with grief. Grief, I already knew. It had been following me around for three weeks. It was like something I accidentally brought home and could not figure out how to return.
This was different. This was biological and specific. And it was fast in a way that my wolf recognized before I did. She knew. I breathed heavily through my nose and told myself it was something I ate. My wolf did not agree. She had not agreed with anything I had told myself in the last three weeks, and she was not about to start now.
I got up. I dressed in the grey predawn dark without lighting the lamp because light would make this real in a way I was not ready for yet, and I slipped out of my room and into the corridor and moved through the sleeping pack house like the ghost I had become since the night Kaelrith looked at me across the ceremonial fire and felt nothing.
The pack grounds were empty at this hour. Silent the way early morning always was. The world is not yet awake enough to pretend.
I did not look at the ceremonial clearing. I told myself this every single morning, and every single morning, my feet slowed down anyway, just slightly, just that small embarrassing hesitation of a body that had not accepted what the mind already knew. There was nothing left to see there. I looked anyway.
The pull came first. Nobody told me about that. It was physical and sudden. Like a current finding its ground after searching for years. One moment, I was watching fire climb against dark sky, thinking about nothing in particular, and then my wolf was rising with a sound I had no word for, and I was already turning.
And there he was.
"Kaelrith.''
I had seen him before. Everyone in Ironveil had seen the Alpha before. But there was seeing someone, and then there was the other thing, the once-in-a-lifetime thing, the thing the moon goddess apparently saved for her most creative moments.
The bond landed like a live wire dropped in water. My wolf said one word, and she said it like it was the only word she had ever known.
I watched his face for the moment he felt it too. And I watched it shut down. Not gradually. Not with any visible struggle. But just a closing, clean, complete, and final. The way a door shut when the person inside had already decided nobody was getting in.
His jaw went tight. His eyes moved through me and passed. Like I was not a person but a weather condition he had already assessed and dismissed. And then Vaelira was at his side with her hand in the crook of his arm, and his body turned toward her the way a plant turned toward light, and I stood at the edge of the gathering and understood something with complete and terrible clarity.
The moon goddess had a sense of humor. I had simply never realized it was at my expense.
I shook the memory off. I was at the healer's door.
I stood there for a moment with my knuckles raised to knock, and I had a single, stupid thought, which was that if I did not knock, then nothing had to be confirmed, nothing had to become more real than it already was; I could walk back to my room and lie on the floor and pretend I did not know what my wolf knew.
I knocked.
The healer opened the door in her night robe, took one look at my face, and stepped aside without a word. This was what I meant about Maren. She had been the pack healer for twenty years, and she had learned to read the particular expression of a woman who had come to her before sunrise with something too large to carry alone.
I stared at the ceiling throughout. It was the only surface in the room that didn't ask anything of me. Maren moved with the quiet efficiency of twenty years of difficult mornings, and she said nothing until she had everything she needed to say.
Then she sat on the stool. Folded her hands in her lap and looked at me carefully.
I was pregnant. Two words that I already knew were coming before I did.
I already knew. My wolf already knew. But hearing it said aloud in this small, clean room with the predawn dark pressing against the windows did something to the information that knowing alone wasn't enough. It made it permanent. It made it real in the way that the things were real.
I pressed both hands flat against my belly. The child was conceived on a night three weeks ago that Kaelrith had apparently decided to file alongside all the other things about me that he chose not to acknowledge. He came to my room in the dark. He said nothing. He left before morning. The mate bond had burned through whatever wall he had built against it for exactly long enough to leave me with something he did not know about, and I was quite certain would prefer not to.
I thought about telling Maren to keep this from him. I looked at her face, and I did not have to say it. No one would hear this from me, she said.
I sat up slowly. Put my feet on the floor. My hands found each other because there was nobody else there to find them, and I was not falling apart in Maren's examination room at four in the morning. I had decided this, and it was decided.
My child.
The thought arrived like that, simple and total and completely without warning. My child! Whatever else had been taken from me, whatever else had been reassigned and rewritten and handed to my sister with a smile, this was mine. This heartbeat that I could not yet hear but could somehow already feel was mine in a way that nothing had been mine in three weeks, and I would burn this entire pack to the ground before I let anyone take it.
I told Maren I needed time before I told anyone.
She nodded.
I walked back through the park grounds as the sun began to rise. Ironveil waking around me, wolves emerging from the pack house in ones and twos, the particular sounds of morning settling over the territory. Someone called my name with the careful, managed warmth of a person performing kindness they no longer felt, and I lifted my hand and kept walking. When I got to my room, I closed the door. I didn't cry because crying would have meant a surrender I couldn't afford. So, I did not.
I pressed my hand against my belly instead. And then I did something I had not done once since the night of the Blood Moon Ceremony.
I thought not to think about the grief. Not about Kaelrith or Vaelira or the specific cruelty of a bond that only worked in one direction practically and strategically. With the particular cold focus of a woman who had one thing left and knew exactly what it cost to lose it.
I had changed in three weeks in ways I can't explain. But I knew this much. I was done being what other people discarded. I needed to leave Ironveil. The thought was so clear and it was almost loud.
I was still sitting with it when I heard voices near my window. Two voices. I knew them both before I even moved to look.
Kaelrith and Vaelira, walking the pack grounds in the early morning light. Her laugh floated up clean and easy. Kaelrith's hand settled at the lower part of her back. She turned her face up to him. It looked exactly like love. I would know. I used to believe in it.
I started to step back from the window. That was when I heard it. Vaelira's voice dropped just low enough that she thought no one else heard her.
I told you she would never have to know.

"Let me go," I whimper, my body trembling with need. "I don't want you touching me."

Biting his lip, he stalks toward me, his hand going to the seam of his pants and the thickening bulge there.
"Are you sure you don't want me to touch you?" He whispers, untying the knot and slipping a hand inside. "Because I swear to God, that is all I have been wanting to do. Every single day from the moment you stepped in our bar and I smelled your perfect flavor from across the room."

Offside Temptation

When he grabbed my jersey in that locker room and kissed me in front of twenty cameras, it wasn't a mistake. It was the moment the line between hatred and obsession finally snapped. The media called it a scandal. They called us a divorced couple. But they didn't see the way Ethan trembled when I cornered him in the hallway afterward.
"You're staring again," he whispered, his back hitting the wall.
"You're still here," I replied calmly, stepping close enough to feel his erratic pulse.
He thought I was cold. He thought I was controlled. He didn't realize that every time he looked at me, I was fighting the urge to completely destroy the distance between us.
Now, the league is forcing us to live together, train together, and smile for the cameras to fix our public image. But the more time we spend alone in my apartment, the harder it is to pretend I just want to play hockey...
After One Night with the Alpha
I thought I was waiting for love. Instead, I got fucked by a beast.
My world was supposed to bloom at the Moonshade Bay Full Moon Festival—champagne buzzing in my veins, a hotel room booked for Jason and me to finally cross that line after two years. I’d slipped into lacy lingerie, left the door unlocked, and lay on the bed, heart pounding with nervous excitement.
But the man who climbed into my bed wasn’t Jason.
In the pitch-black room, drowned in a heady, spicy scent that made my head spin, I felt hands—urgent, scorching—searing my skin. His thick, pulsing cock pressed against my dripping cunt, and before I could gasp, he thrust hard, tearing through my innocence with ruthless force. Pain burned, my walls clenching as I clawed at his iron shoulders, stifling sobs. Wet, slick sounds echoed with every brutal stroke, his body unrelenting until he shuddered, spilling hot and deep inside me.
"That was amazing, Jason," I managed to say.
"Who the fuck is Jason?"
My blood turned to ice. Light slashed across his face—Brad Rayne, Alpha of Moonshade Pack, a werewolf, not my boyfriend. Horror choked me as I realized what I’d done.
I ran away for my life!
But weeks later, I woke up pregnant with his heir!
They say my heterochromatic eyes mark me as a rare true mate. But I’m no wolf. I’m just Elle, a nobody from the human district, now trapped in Brad's world.
Brad’s cold gaze pins me: “You carry my blood. You’re mine.”
There is no other choice for me but to chose this cage. My body also betrays me, craving the beast who ruined me.
