Introduction

Chapter 1
~ Many Halloweens ago~
The moon is at its fullest, and the air is thick with fear. The smell is alluring. Tabetha is a highly regarded and respected witch. She usually stays in her layer and keeps to herself, but tonight is different. Tonight, the shadows are calling to her.
She follows the whispers and makes her way to a lake. The waves of the water are illuminated by the glow of the moon. She takes her shoes off and feels the sand in between her toes. She freezes and stands still as her heart starts to pound.
Goose bumps run up her arms, and a chill creeps down her back. The silence of the night emphasizes the sounds of her breath. It's shallow and pitchy, her chest feels heavy. Her eyes are searching for the cause of these feelings.
The soft touch of a strong hand, on her waist answers her question. Someone spins her around and her breath gets caught in her chest. Her eyes search the dark and their eyes meet. Her smile grows but his fierce brows stare down at her.
"Kane.." Her breath is hot and heavy with need for him.
"Tabetha?" His voice is filled with disapproval but his eyes and his hands firmly gripping her waist show that he needs her.
"We're mates!" She's filled with excitement and she leans in.
Her lips intertwine against his. Her tongue sneaks into his mouth. He pokes her thighs with approval. It encourages her and her tongue dances with his. He moans for more and she presses against him.
"Take me, my alpha!" Her words are like a drug and he lifts her effortlessly with one hand.
"Oh, yes!" She moans as he nibbles her neck.
His hand sneaks under her dress, "Mine!" She cries out.
Her words cause him to stop. He pulls away and she gasps for more, "Kane?"
He ignores her as he stares up at the moon. A growl comes from deep in him but he ignores it. His hand flies into the air and he screams.
She runs to his side, "My mate.."
He turns around so fast, that it cuts her off. She screams as his arms wack her in the chest and send her flying across the grass. With a blink of an eye, he's hovering over top of her.
His eyes are black with a glowing red. His voice is deep and angry, "I Alpha Kane, reject you Tabetha as my mate!"
Tabetha cries out, "but why?"
His face contorts as he fights against his wolf. His tone is deep and dark, "You are not a wolf. I refuse to be trapped with a witch."
Her heart drops and her eyes swell up, "I am a well-respected woman. I am the most powerful witch of my time. I have helped you.."
Her words are cut off by the sting of his hand as it smacks across her cheek, "You are nothing compared to me. I will never be with a witch.."
His eyes meet hers and he spits, "You disgust me!"
He raises his hand to swing at her again. She closes her eyes and indoors several blows to her face and stomach. She lays on the ground, holding her stomach. She gasps at the sight of him hovering over her, getting ready to kick her.
She closes her eyes and listens to the wind, "Accept his rejection.." It's barely a whisper but a warning and a way out of the pain.
"I Tabetha, the princess of witches accept your rejection." His eyes go wide and his wolf cries with pain.
He curls up on the ground and holds his stomach with his hands. His wolf howls from within him. "Not only do I accept your rejection but.."
He looks up to see her standing over his. Her eyes are black and bleeding. Her lips are swollen. The wind brings her hair to life as she continues, "I curse you and your wretched, disgraceful, and prejudiced family!"
She leans down and smirks through gritted teeth. Her words are harsh and angry, "Two generations from now, your family will give birth to the perfect alpha."
He watches in horror as her eyes glow red, "He will be perfect. His hair, eyes, skin, and lips..." Her words flow in a seductive and threatening manner, "He will be the pride and joy and he will be forced to marry a human!"
He screams, "Not a human!"
Her cackles fill the air, rain starts to pour down. She leans down and lighting strikes behind her. She makes disapproving noises with her tongue, "I curse your grandson with the curse born night, curse. On October 24th his curse will start. He will have seven days to find his mate, or she will die and he will forever be in his creature form!"
His laughter causes her anger, "She dies and he has to be a wolf, forever?" He stands up and dusts himself off, "That's not so bad!" He starts to limp away.
He pauses as her voice booms from behind him, "He will feel her pain. He will feel like he's dying too. Only he will have to live with the memory of the pain. He won't be able to transform back, he will become a savage being that wants to kill and eat everyone!"
She watches as he walks away. Her eyes never leave him as she whispers to the wind, "You will regret this!"
She watches in horror as he embraces another woman in his arms. She turns around and runs, she doesn't stop until she has run through her shoes. She lays on the ground and cries out. Something in her chest deepens and she leaps into the air, landing in a defensive mode.
"Humans?" She asks.
"We mean no harm, we will leave and never come back!" A big man calls out.
She smirks at the handsome man, "I will let you live, if you take me with you!"
The humans look to each other in confusion, "Why would you do that?"
She thinks back to her curse, "I want to help you. I can teach you tricks, and show you how to progress!"
They huddles up and come to an agreement. The large man smiles, "We accept your partnership, but we need to move now. It's Halloween and this is the most dangerous night!"
She nods, "You have no need to worry, I will protect you!"
