System Activated: You now profit from fear

Introduction
"You have until Friday, Mr. Reed. After that, your father's garage stops existing."
I had nothing left to fight back with. No money, no leverage, nothing but a dying auto garage and a promise I made my father before he passed. Then a car nearly killed me in the middle of the street, and I woke up hearing a voice in my head that changed everything.
It told me I now carry the Negative Emotion System. Every time I cause real fear in someone else, I get stronger. Richer. Sharper. All I have to do is make people suffer.
I told myself I'd only use it on people who deserved it. The corrupt inspector. The greedy developer. The ones already hurting my town. But power like this does not stay clean for long, and somewhere along the way, I stopped noticing the version of myself I was leaving behind.
Now my best friend is asking questions I can't answer. The woman I love is starting to see something in my eyes that scares her. And somewhere out there, an organization has been watching hosts like me for a very long time, and none of them lived long enough to tell their story.
I built an empire out of other people's nightmares. But if fear is the price of power, what happens when I finally run out of enemies to spend it on?
Chapter 1
POV: First Person (Samuel Reed)
"You have until Friday, Mr. Reed." Ethan Cross smiled like he was delivering good news. "After that, your father's garage stops existing."
He peeled the inspection notice off his clipboard and slapped it against the wall by the office door, right over the old photo of my dad standing in front of this place the day he opened it. I felt my jaw tighten watching that paper cover his face.
"There's nothing wrong with this building," I said. "You inspected it three months ago and passed it clean." I gritted my teeth.
"Things change." He walked further inside, letting his shoe drag deliberately across a puddle of oil near the lift, tracking it toward a customer's car parked for pickup. "Faulty wiring. Improper waste disposal. Structural concerns. I could keep going." Ethan smirked.
Jake came out from under the hood he'd been working on and stood beside me, wiping his hands on a rag slow enough that I could tell he was holding himself back.
"You made this up," I said.
"Prove it." Ethan smiled.
One of the two officers he'd brought glanced away, like even he didn't want to be standing here for this. My mother stood near the office door with her arms crossed, watching a man decide the fate of everything her husband built with his own hands.
"Two thousand dollars," Ethan said. "Pay it today, and I forget I ever wrote any of this." Ethan said with his hands on his hips.
"That's extortion." Jake almost screamed.
"That's business." He stepped close enough that I caught the sharp smell of his cologne. "You're wasting your talent in this dump, Samuel. I've seen your work. Word is you fixed a transmission last month that three other shops in this county said couldn't be saved. A man like you could work anywhere. Instead you're bleeding out slow in a town that's already dead."
"This garage isn't dead." I said with defiance.
"It will be Friday." He smiled again, glancing at my mother like she was part of the furniture. "Unless you'd rather I bring the demolition order instead of the fine. Your choice."
He turned and walked out with his officers trailing behind him, stepping over a toolbox on his way and kicking it just hard enough to send a wrench skittering across the concrete floor. Nobody said anything until his car pulled out of the lot.
"We'll figure it out," my mother said, her hand finding my shoulder the way it used to when I was a kid who'd lost a fight I shouldn't have started.
I didn't answer, because I didn't know how.
Clara showed up an hour later with two coffees, like she always did on the days she could tell something was wrong before I said a word. She set one down next to me without asking and leaned against the workbench, watching me stare at numbers in the ledger that weren't going to change no matter how long I looked at them.
"Jake told me," she said.
"Jake talks too much." I sighed.
"Jake worries too much. There's a difference." She nudged the coffee closer. "Don't let that man get under your skin, Samuel. He wants you angry enough to do something stupid."
"Two thousand dollars, Clara. I don't have two thousand dollars." I said throwing my hands up in the air.
"I know." She didn't offer some easy answer, and I liked her more for that. "But you'll figure it out. You always do."
I wanted to believe her.
I stayed late that night going through the books again, even though nothing in them had changed since the last ten times I'd checked. Around nine I locked up and decided to walk home instead of taking the truck, needing the air more than I needed the five extra minutes it would save me.
Main Street was mostly dark. Half the storefronts had been empty since the factory closed, faded signs nobody bothered to take down, including the old pharmacy where my father used to buy me milkshakes after little league. I crossed near the corner, checking both directions out of habit more than caution, and started across when I heard the engine.
It wasn't slowing down. That was the first wrong thing.
Headlights swung wide, aiming straight instead of drifting past, and the engine revved harder like someone was pressing the gas instead of the brake. I had half a second to register that before the impact hit me, sudden and total, and the street came up to meet me hard enough to steal the air from my lungs.
I remember the sky after that. Stars, clear and distant, strange to notice while flat on my back in the middle of the road.
Somewhere a woman was shouting for someone to call an ambulance, footsteps running toward me, but underneath all of it a voice started speaking, calm and even, like it had always lived inside my skull and was only now bothering to introduce itself.
"Host located. Synchronization beginning. Please remain conscious if possible." The voice chimed in a robotic way.
I tried to ask what that meant and couldn't get the words out. The voice kept going anyway, unbothered by whether I was listening.
"Negative Emotion System linking to host. Samuel Reed, age twenty eight, confirmed. Fear Point module installing." Came another chime.
I passed out before I could ask anything else.
I woke up two days later in a hospital bed with a cracked rib, a concussion, and my mother asleep in the chair beside me, her hand wrapped around mine like she hadn't let go the whole time. Jake stood by the window scrolling through his phone, and when he saw my eyes open he nearly dropped it.
"You're an idiot," he said, which from Jake meant he'd been scared out of his mind. "Walking home in the dark like nothing in this town could touch you."
"Good to see you too." I said ,managing a smile.
"Doctor said another few inches and we wouldn't be having this conversation." He didn't finish that thought further, and he didn't need to.
My mother woke at the sound of our voices and immediately started fussing, checking my forehead, asking if I needed water, if I was in pain, if I needed anything at all, and for a moment the fake violations and the two thousand dollars we didn't have felt very far away.
Then the voice came back, quiet under everything else, patient in a way that made my skin prickle.
"Host is conscious. Explanation available whenever you're ready to hear it." That same robotic chime.
I stayed still and said nothing.
"You okay?" Jake asked, catching whatever crossed my face.
"Just tired," I said, and he let it go, though I caught him watching me a beat too long before turning back to his phone.
I waited until my mother left for coffee and Jake stepped into the hallway to take a call, and only then, alone with the machines humming quietly around me, did I finally ask out loud, barely above a whisper.
"What are you." I asked cautiously.
"I convert genuine fear, shock, and humiliation, when directly caused by you, into Fear Points. Fear Points can be exchanged for currency, skill, or physical improvement. Would you like a demonstration." The voice replied.
"That's insane," I said, half convinced the concussion was worse than they'd told me.
My phone buzzed on the side table before I could think of anything else to say. I reached for it, wincing at the pull in my ribs, and found a text from a number I didn't recognize.
"Two thousand by Friday, or I bring the demolition order myself. Heard about your accident. Shame how careless drivers are these days".
"It was signed with a single letter
E."
My hand tightened around the phone, and behind my eyes, calm and patient, the voice spoke again like it had been waiting for exactly this.
"Subject detected. Shall we begin?"

Bella and Her Beast
.
Locked in her frozen tower, Bella dreamed of warmth, of touch, of freedom and of love. Cursed with the power of ice and snow, she’s spent her life alone. A secret they tried to protect the world from. Her only escape comes in the form of the books she reads. Stories of heat, desire, and the kind of love that could melt even her frostbitten heart.
Damien is the Beast. A dragon King with a temper forged in flame and a soul hollowed by duty. The world fears him. The people call him a monster. But beneath the scales and the rage lies a man who has never been touched by love.
When frost meets fire, the world shatters. She was never meant to leave her tower. He was never meant to find her. But destiny doesn’t bow to kings or care for cages and now the question burns through them both: Can Bella have her Beast? Or will the girl of snow melt in the heat of his desire?
.
"I’m keeping her."
"What?"
Before I can react, he scoops her up. Her small body fits easily in the cradle of his talons. For a split second, she looks startled, but not afraid. Her hand rests against one scaled finger, and she stares up at him with that same curious wonder, as though she’s already forgotten she was ever meant to fear me.
"Put her down," I try to command, panic threading through my thoughts. "You’ll hurt her."
"She’s ours," the beast insists, possessive and fierce. "Our snowflake."
Offside Temptation
Ethan Ryder was a disaster waiting to happen. Hot-headed, reckless, and constantly one bad decision away from ruining his career. I was supposed to hate him. Instead, I memorized him. I learned exactly how to push his buttons on the ice just to see the fire in his eyes.
When he grabbed my jersey in that locker room and kissed me in front of twenty cameras, it wasn't a mistake. It was the moment the line between hatred and obsession finally snapped. The media called it a scandal. They called us a divorced couple. But they didn't see the way Ethan trembled when I cornered him in the hallway afterward.
"You're staring again," he whispered, his back hitting the wall.
"You're still here," I replied calmly, stepping close enough to feel his erratic pulse.
He thought I was cold. He thought I was controlled. He didn't realize that every time he looked at me, I was fighting the urge to completely destroy the distance between us.
Now, the league is forcing us to live together, train together, and smile for the cameras to fix our public image. But the more time we spend alone in my apartment, the harder it is to pretend I just want to play hockey...
Falling for My Boyfriend's Uncle
My boyfriend skipped our anniversary for her—the girl who called me a whore.
He left me walking home in the dark. When my apartment caught fire, he ignored my calls.
But his uncle showed up.
The one with the scarred knuckles and the cop badge. The one who looked at me like he wanted to burn the world down for me—or maybe burn me down instead.
Now, we live under the same roof. Three people. One bed too close.
Every time my boyfriend touches me, I flinch. Every time his uncle looks at me, I burn.
He's dangerous. He's forbidden. He's everything I shouldn't want.
Is he saving me... or does he just want to own me?
Some fires don't just burn. They consume.
Pregnant by My Husband's Rival Alpha
Those words should have destroyed me, but the truth was worse: I'd been used as a broodmare by the man who swore to love me, set up in a hotel room with a stranger because My husband Alexander Cross couldn't father children himself, and now I carried the secret babies of Damon Lester—the most powerful and dangerous Alpha in San Loris—while my own family replaced me with the daughter they'd always wanted. But when that same stranger's doctor appeared at my door, when twenty million dollars exchanged hands over a fake perfume bearing my secret identity, and when Damon's gray eyes locked onto mine with recognition I couldn't afford, I realized my carefully hidden life as the legendary perfumer Vera was colliding with a pregnancy that could cost me everything.
Could I protect my babies from the husband plotting my death, hide my true identity from the Alpha who's been hunting me for years, and reclaim the freedom I'd buried along with my dreams—even if it means standing alone against the wolves who see me as nothing more than a womb to be used and discarded?
Chosen By The Lycan King
Falling for my boyfriend's Navy brother
"What is wrong with me?
Why does being near him make my skin feel too tight, like I’m wearing a sweater two sizes too small?
It’s just newness, I tell myself firmly.
He’s my boyfirend’s brother.
This is Tyler’s family.
I’m not going to let one cold stare undo that.
**
As a ballet dancer, My life looks perfect—scholarship, starring role, sweet boyfriend Tyler. Until Tyler shows his true colors and his older brother, Asher, comes home.
Asher is a Navy veteran with battle scars and zero patience. He calls me "princess" like it's an insult. I can't stand him.
When My ankle injury forces her to recover at the family lake house, I‘m stuck with both brothers. What starts as mutual hatred slowly turns into something forbidden.
I'm falling for my boyfriend's brother.
**
I hate girls like her.
Entitled.
Delicate.
And still—
Still.
The image of her standing in the doorway, clutching her cardigan tighter around her narrow shoulders, trying to smile through the awkwardness, won’t leave me.
Neither does the memory of Tyler. Leaving her here without a second thought.
I shouldn’t care.
I don’t care.
It’s not my problem if Tyler’s an idiot.
It’s not my business if some spoiled little princess has to walk home in the dark.
I’m not here to rescue anyone.
Especially not her.
Especially not someone like her.
She’s not my problem.
And I’ll make damn sure she never becomes one.
But when my eyes fell on her lips, I wanted her to be mine.
Iron And Glamour Just Don't Mix
Well… Sometimes you just might turn out to be right.
It turns out, the fae stole my little brother. In his place? A pixie with boundary issues and a talent for home repairs.
I’ve spent my life taking care of everyone else. So when my baby brother is taken, I don’t hesitate. I walk straight into a faerie mansion and make a bargain with its infuriatingly charming master.
Kie is everything you’d expect from a dangerous fae, beautiful, political, and entirely too amused by me. Power wrapped in a smirk. Sensual, mischievous, and far too aware of the effect he has on people. He agrees to help me find my brother.
For a price.
Now I’m bound by a faerie bargain and navigating a world of glamour, manipulation, and ancient rules I definitely should have learned sooner, enchanted forests, political games, magical contracts, and a fae lord who treats seduction like a perfectly reasonable negotiation tactic.
Iron is how I keep people out.
Glamour is how he draws them in.
And apparently, they just don’t mix.
