The Girl The Academy Forgot
mualimndagiman · Completed · 314.2k Words
Introduction
Three assessments. Three blank results. Three years of watching everyone around her move on without her.
Then a letter arrives with no stamp, no signature, and six words that stop her cold.
Your record is wrong. Come anyway.
Solaris Academy does not make mistakes. So when Lily walks through its gates as the girl with no detectable gift, she expects to be sent home within a week. What she does not expect is a secret courtyard, a guide with too many answers, and Ethan Cole — the top-ranked student in the intake — who cannot seem to look away from the girl everyone else has already overlooked.
When the Academy's ancient symbols split in two and choose them both on the same morning, everything changes.
Lily has a name. What she can do is rarer than anything Solaris has seen in forty years. And there are people inside these walls who have been waiting for her — just not in the way she hoped.
She has spent her whole life making herself small.
She is about to find out what happens when she stops.
Chapter 1
Chapter One
The letter came on a Tuesday, which Lily Calloway would later decide was the most ordinary day for her life to crack open.
She almost missed it entirely. It was tucked under the welcome mat outside her grandmother's front door in a quiet Boston suburb, sealed with dark wax that smelled faintly of rain and old wood smoke. No stamp. No return address. Just her name written in silver ink so neat it looked like it was trying very hard to behave.
Lily Calloway.
Not Lily-who-sits-in-the-back or Lily-who-got-average-marks or Lily-whose-magic-assessment-came-back-blank-three-years-running. Just her name, clean and whole, as though whoever wrote it believed those two words were more than enough.
She picked it up. She almost put it back down. Then she sat on the front porch steps in the cool October air, leaves drifting across the yard, and she opened it.
The inside smelled like old libraries. The paper was thick and slightly warm beneath her fingers, and the words shifted just barely as she read them. Not in a dramatic way. Not in a way she could prove. But just enough that she knew something inside them was alive.
Dear Miss Calloway,
You have been selected for enrollment at Solaris Academy of the Arcane Arts, beginning the first week of November. Your record indicates no detectable magical signature. Your record is wrong.
Please report to the intake courtyard by seven o'clock on the morning of the third. Bring only what matters most.
We have been watching you for a long time. We are sorry it took this long to reach out.
We look forward to meeting you properly.
There was no signature.
Lily read it twice. Then she folded it carefully along its crease, tucked it into the pocket of her hoodie, and went inside to help her grandmother with dinner as though nothing had happened. Because that was what Lily did. She absorbed things quietly. She moved through the world without making waves. She was the kind of girl people described as sweet and promptly forgot about, and for seventeen years she had been mostly fine with that.
Mostly.
Her grandmother was at the stove, humming something old and tuneless, and the kitchen smelled like roasted chicken and fresh bread and the kind of warmth that only lives in homes that have held generations of the same family.
"Gran," Lily said carefully. "Have you ever heard of Solaris Academy?"
Her grandmother went very still.
Just for a moment. Half a second at most. Then she turned back to the pot and adjusted the heat and said, without looking up: "Where did you hear that name?"
Lily set the letter on the kitchen counter.
Her grandmother looked at it for a long time without touching it. Then she looked at Lily. Her expression held something complicated — pride and sadness and relief tangled together in a way that made Lily's chest tighten.
"I wondered," her grandmother said quietly, "when they would finally come."
"You knew?"
"I knew what you were." She crossed the kitchen and took both of Lily's hands in hers. They were warm from the stove and completely steady. "I knew they would come for you eventually. I just didn't know what was taking them so long."
Lily's voice came out smaller than she intended. "The assessments all came back blank, Gran. Three years. The testers said I had no signature at all. They said—"
"I know what they said." Her grandmother squeezed her hands once. "They were looking for the wrong thing. Some gifts are loud. Yours was always going to be quiet until the moment it wasn't."
Lily looked at the letter on the counter. The silver ink caught the kitchen light and held it.
Your record is wrong.
For the first time in three years, something inside her chest came loose. Not hope exactly. She was too careful for hope. But the door to it cracked open, just slightly, and the light coming through was warm.
She didn't sleep that night. She lay in her narrow bed listening to the wind move through the old oak outside her window and thought about those words over and over.
We have been watching you for a long time.
She wondered what they had seen. She wondered what they had been waiting for.
She packed three things: her grandmother's old journal, a small photograph, and a pair of silver crescent moon earrings she had worn every single day since she was twelve. Small things. Things that were entirely and completely hers.
On the morning of the third, she kissed her grandmother's cheek at dawn. Her grandmother held on a moment longer than usual.
"Pay attention," she said. "Not just to what they teach you. To what they don't."
Lily nodded. She stepped outside into the cold morning air.
She walked to the intake courtyard with her small bag over one shoulder, her silver earrings catching the first light, completely unremarkable to anyone who passed her. A quiet girl. An average girl. A girl who had failed her magic assessments three times in a row.
What no one knew yet was that every puddle she stepped over froze for exactly one second behind her left foot and thawed again behind her right, and the air around her smelled faintly, unmistakably, of something about to begin.
She didn't know it herself. Not yet.
But the Academy knew. And someone standing at an upper-floor window of Solaris, watching her cross through the main gate with her small bag and crescent moon earrings, knew it most of all.
He watched until she disappeared through the archway. Then he stepped
back from the glass and said quietly, to no one in particular:
"There she is."

The CEO's Unspoken Love
Before I could answer, he moved closer, suddenly looming over me, his face inches from mine. I felt my breath caught, my lips parting in surprise.
"Then this is the price for speaking ill of me to others," he murmured, nipping my lower lip before claiming my mouth in a real kiss. It began as punishment but quickly transformed into something else entirely as I responded, my initial rigidity melting into compliance, then active participation.
My breathing accelerated, small sounds escaping my throat as he explored my body. His touches were both punishment and pleasure, drawing shudders from me that I thought he felt reverberating through his own body.
My nightgown had ridden up, his hands discovering more of mine with each caress. We were both lost in sensation, rational thought receding with each passing second...

Aphrodite and the Cursed Mate Bond
She finds truth.
Aphrodite is not human at all. She is a rare white wolf, descended from an ancient Direwolf bloodline long believed extinct. The ritual meant to sever her ties awakens her wolf instead and with it comes the scent of five mates bound to her by fate.
The Alpha twins who once scorned her now cannot stay away. A human hunter walks beside her and proves that strength is not born of fangs or dominance. A cursed Wolf King holds the key to her past and her father’s imprisonment. And watching from the shadows is one who was never meant to interfere at all.
As gods fall, packs fracture, and war reshapes the world, Aphrodite must decide what destiny truly means. Is it submission to fate or the courage to choose her own path.
Love does not come in one form. Neither does power.
In a world ruled by gods and wolves, Aphrodite will become something neither ever expected.
Not a queen.

The Alpha's Stripper Mate
"What?" It was out of my mouth before I could stop it. I did not wait for him to answer me, I walked toward him.
"Dance on my lap."
My head screamed at me to turn around and run. But my whole body responded to his command.
"Yes, Alpha," I pulled my dress over my body, it dropped over my head and fell to the ground behind me. I was left in nothing but my matching bra and thong. My hands covered my chest on reflex.
"Let me see."
My hands dropped to my sides.
I lowered myself into his lap, facing him. His eyes peered into mine, and I could feel his hot breath fan my face. His dick responded to all my moves, hardening against my now-moist vagina. I swallowed hard, allowing my lips to part in a ragged breath. His hands trailed up to my waist.
"No touching."

The Dragon's Last Fae Queen
“Prince? Dickhead? Asshole? Or stalker?” A slow, dangerous smile curved his lips. “Maybe I should show you the one title I want you to use.” Before I could react, his hand closed around my chin, tilting my face up. His lips crashed into mine, hard, claiming, breath-stealing. When he finally pulled back, his voice was a rough whisper against my lips. “You could call me yours… because you are mine.”
Accardi
“I thought you said you were done chasing me?” Gen mocked.
“I am done chasing you.”
Before she could formulate a witty remark, Matteo threw her down. She landed hard on her back atop his dining room table. She tried to sit up when she noticed what he was doing. His hands were working on his belt. It came free of his pants with a violent yank. She collapsed back on her elbows, her mouth gaping open at the display. His face was a mask of sheer determination, his eyes were a dark gold swimming with heat and desire. His hands wrapped around her thighs and pulled her to the edge of the table. He glided his fingers up her thighs and hooked several around the inside of her panties. His knuckles brushed her dripping sex.
“You’re soaking wet, Genevieve. Tell me, was it me that made you this way or him?” his voice told her to be careful with her answer. His knuckles slid down through her folds and she threw her head back as she moaned. “Weakness?”
“You…” she breathed.
Genevieve loses a bet she can’t afford to pay. In a compromise, she agrees to convince any man her opponent chooses to go home with her that night.
