The Rejected Luna Was the Enemy Alpha's Fated Mate
Amelia Rivers · Ongoing · 175.8k Words
Introduction
Three years ago, Selene bonded to the Alpha of Ironwood. He came home poisoned by shadow. Her soul, too pure, burns it out of him — so he cannot touch her without agony. That is the tragedy the pack whispers about.
They don't whisper about the shrine room. About the chief healer who brews a draught from Selene's own blood so she'll smell like the wife he can't hold. About the child learning to call him Papa.
Selene doesn't weep when she finds the memory crystal. She owns the mines her husband borrows against. She is the Shadow Lord — the lender he kneels to, the mercenaries at his borders, the hand that can strangle a pack's entire winter.
So: a severance signed in a drugged haze. A healer humiliated at the Great Rite by her own stolen formulas. A trade road going dark.
And then a glass of wine, a locked inn door, and a blade in Selene's own wrist to mask her scent before she runs.
She runs straight into Kael. Enemy of her bloodline. Man she should never touch.
And a father-in-law who is about to break her heart worse than any lover.
How much does a Luna owe a pack that never loved her?
Chapter 1
Selene's POV
The worst betrayal is not the kind you never see coming. It's the one you already know about, and you still have to stand there with your face completely still and pretend you don't.
The corridor outside the Sacred Chamber was cold. I stood with my back straight, listening to the sounds coming through the door. Three years of closed doors had taught me everything. Loken's breathing. The low sounds he made when he was trying to stay quiet. I knew every single one.
The door opened. His face was flushed, the shadow-corruption marks along his neck darker than usual. They always deepened when his pulse ran high. He straightened his collar. I said, "How did it go? Is your inner wolf adapting better today?"
I don't know how I sounded that calm.
"Progress," he said. One word. No eye contact.
Then Elora walked out behind him.
Her hair pin was crooked. The sash at her waist had been retied in a hurry, pulled too tight. Along the left side of her neck, just below her curls, sat a row of small red marks — pheromone allergy rash, the kind you get when your body is flooded with a scent that doesn't belong to you. She smiled at me. Big, warm. "You must have been so worried out here. The session went wonderfully. His tolerance is really coming along."
"I'm sure it is," I said. "With a healer as dedicated as you."
She held my gaze one second too long. Then she glanced at Loken, quick and sideways. He looked away immediately. He said something about needing to bathe to clear residual shadow energy. Then he was walking away down one corridor and she was walking away down the other, and I was standing alone in front of a door that was still warm.
I went inside.
Three years ago, an abyss creature attacked us at Howling Canyon on our bonding night. Loken stepped in front of me. The shadow claws went through him instead. The corruption stayed. When he tried to reach for me afterward, my soul energy — Moonshadow bloodline, pure all the way through — collided with the darkness in his inner wolf and started burning it out. The purification reflex tore through him. The closer he came to me, the worse I hurt him.
For two years, no healer in Ironwood could fix it. Then Elora arrived. She was a wandering healer out of the Redthorn line, brought in because nothing else had worked. She examined Loken once and named it: pureblood searing. The treatment required constant proximity, she said. Daily monitoring. Immediate access to the Sacred Chamber whenever his inner wolf destabilized. Loken agreed without hesitation. She moved into the east wing two weeks later with her daughter Vira.
At the time, I had been relieved. Someone finally had an answer.
The treatment was straightforward, Elora said. She would extract my blood, brew it into a mimicry elixir, and drink it herself. The compound would replicate my scent. Loken would be blindfolded. In the dark, with the right scent and no soul contact, his system would acclimate gradually. No pain. Controlled exposure until he could tolerate the real thing.
I had agreed. I had given my blood willingly. Every month for six months.
The moon-runes lit up when I crossed the threshold. They always responded to what the elders called a pure soul signature. I walked to the side altar, reached behind the third panel, and opened the hidden compartment.
I had known it was there for two months.
Inside was a crushed vial. I picked it up. The smell hit me immediately. My own base scent. My blood, used to make someone else smell enough like me that my husband could touch her in the dark and call it medicine.
I stood there and actually laughed. Short, quiet. Then my eyes went wet at the corners, and I stood very still and waited for it to stop.
Three days ago, standing in the dark at the top of the stairs, I heard him tell Elora that I had never experienced a real mate bond and wouldn't figure it out. Then, quieter: with her and the mimicry elixir it worked, and with me it didn't.
That was when three years of guilt turned into something else entirely.
I put the vial back. Closed the compartment. Walked out to the main hall and sat down. Folded my hands in my lap. Waited.
He found me there. He always knew where I was — guards tracked my location every hour.
"I need you to start picking up Vira from the alchemy hall," he said. "Elora's sessions run long."
"No."
He sat down across from me. His voice dropped into the register he used when he wanted something and didn't want to ask for it. He laid out the situation: Gunnar building a coalition in the elder council, moonstone supply lines running short, the winter summit approaching. He needed an introduction to the Shadow Lord. He had been sending formal requests for seven months with no response. Elora had connections, he said.
Then: "You sit in that herb garden and think it's enough. You have no idea what's actually at stake." A pause. "Can you even do one useful thing? Can you get me a meeting with the Shadow Lord?"
I looked at his face.
The Shadow Lord he was describing had built a network from nothing and ended up controlling every major moonstone vein on the continent. The reputation had been sealed during the Deadrock crisis, when every supplier pulled out and the Shadow Lord held the lines for eight months at a personal loss. Every pack that stayed loyal came out ahead. Border traders went quiet when the name came up.
I had built that network. Every formula, every scent manipulation, every year of patience I had nowhere else to put while my husband was behind a closed door with someone else. Elora had been telling him she had a connection to the Shadow Lord. I had been listening to her say it and feeling something close to very tired amusement.
I come from the Moonshadow line. Six generations of alchemists — and it broke at my grandfather. He let it break. He took the books and the tools and the furnace and put them under a ban the whole family had to swear to, and after that there was no Moonshadow alchemy left to learn, only the name of it. He wanted me to stay in the clan anyway. I bonded into Ironwood instead, three years inside a fortress, and built something he never learned about.
People who throw away what's given to them don't get to keep it.
I was still sitting with that thought when Vira ran in from the side corridor, holding a small ceramic bottle in both hands. "I found this in Selene's room," she announced. "It was under the pillow."
Elora went very still.
Loken took the bottle. He turned it over, read the rune inscription, and I watched the color leave his knuckles. When he looked at me, something had shifted in his expression. Not just anger. The look of a man revising everything he thought he knew. "Selene." His voice came out low. "You've been that desperate?"
In Ironwood Pack, a Luna found with that class of compound was a scandal. It meant instability. Elder council questions. Whisper campaigns. Damage that didn't wash off.
He was already framing it. Already certain he understood the shape of me — small, predictable, desperate for scraps of his attention.
Elora put a hand on his arm and said, very gently, that I had been under a great deal of strain lately, and that everyone understood. Vira stood at her mother's hip with her hands behind her back, eyes wide and bright.
I looked at him holding that bottle. I looked at Elora standing behind him, watching my face with those careful eyes.

“I thought you said you were done chasing me?” Gen mocked.
“I am done chasing you.”
Before she could formulate a witty remark, Matteo threw her down. She landed hard on her back atop his dining room table. She tried to sit up when she noticed what he was doing. His hands were working on his belt. It came free of his pants with a violent yank. She collapsed back on her elbows, her mouth gaping open at the display. His face was a mask of sheer determination, his eyes were a dark gold swimming with heat and desire. His hands wrapped around her thighs and pulled her to the edge of the table. He glided his fingers up her thighs and hooked several around the inside of her panties. His knuckles brushed her dripping sex.
“You’re soaking wet, Genevieve. Tell me, was it me that made you this way or him?” his voice told her to be careful with her answer. His knuckles slid down through her folds and she threw her head back as she moaned. “Weakness?”
“You…” she breathed.

Exchanging Vows: The Swapped Wife Is a Top Shaman
GO ON YOUR KNEES, ALPHA.
He was wrong.
Six years ago, Pete Leadsilver had everything an Alpha could want. Power, a respected pack and a future already written for him.
Then he met me.
What began as a game became a mistake I would spend years trying to survive. When I told him I was carrying his child, Pete chose not to believe me. He rejected me, humiliated me, and allowed the people around him to make sure I understood that there was no place for me in his world.
So I disappeared.
I took the secret of my pregnancy with me and built a life far away from the Alpha who had broken me.
Six years later, Pete finds me again. Only this time, he isn't the man with all the power. His pack is dying, his people are running out of time, and I may be the only person capable of saving them.
But I'm no longer the woman Pete remembers. And beside me is a little boy who carries far too much of Pete's face to be a coincidence.
Our reunion should have been about a cure, but instead, it becomes the beginning of a war neither of us saw coming.
Because Pete's greatest danger isn't outside his pack.
It's inside his own family.
Old resentment turns into manipulation. Loyalty becomes betrayal. And the people Pete trusts begin hiding secrets that threaten to destroy everything he's built.
Then someone comes for the people I love.
Suddenly, this is no longer about whether Pete can earn my forgiveness.
It's about whether he can keep me alive.
Whether he can protect the son he never knew existed.
Whether he can uncover the truth before the people closest to him destroy everything he has finally learned to value.
Along the way, we'll lose people we thought would always stand beside us, I'll be forced to confront wounds I've spent six years trying to bury, and the family we're slowly building will be tested in ways neither of us could have imagined.
Because sometimes love isn't the hardest thing to find. Sometimes it's the hardest thing to survive.
Pete once believed power meant never needing anyone and I once believed surviving him meant leaving him behind.
We were both wrong.
Because some bonds refuse to die, some betrayals cut deeper than rejection and some people don't come back into your life to give you a second chance.
They come back to show you exactly what you almost lost.
Pete Leadsilver lost me once.
This time, he'll have to fight to keep the family he never knew he needed.

Then a message arrived from someone called Sweet An.
Do you really know your husband?
From that day on, my life filled with shadows.
I suspected my husband of having an affair.
When Lucas and I made love, something felt wrong — his body too large, too much, like something I couldn't explain.
I heard sounds during sex — animal sounds, like something feral had crawled into bed with us.
My best friend Mia said: "There are men sick enough to let dogs fuck their wives."
The family doctor, Daisy, told me: "You could never stay by Lucas's side forever. Your background doesn't make you worthy of being his wife. Do you understand?"
I went looking for whoever had been tearing my marriage apart. I fought to win my husband back.
But the deeper I searched, the larger the secret grew — something far darker hiding beneath this supposed betrayal.
Does Lucas truly love me?
And why, out of everyone in the world, did he choose to marry me?

Tango 2 the Alpha's Heart
My gaze snapped to his. He was smiling, causing my heart to skip a painful beat. Before I could respond, the music began, and my body instinctively reacted to the sweet melody.
I found myself molded to Lex's will, my feet irresistibly following the dance steps.
The crowd gasped as Lex pulled me into a more intimate position, his hands roaming over my body in a seductive manner.
The experience was both terrifying and magical, allowing me to feel every longing emotion through the dance.
I soon found myself lost in his arms.
When the music finally stopped, my arms were wrapped around his neck, his hands resting on my back, our noses almost touching. He gazed deeply into my eyes.
The ballroom fell silent.
Was he about to kiss me?
