Introduction
Athena Escarra is a promising young lawyer who loves her work more than anything. She's been married to her husband, Oliver Smith, for six years and would never indulge in an affair-until she met Alessandro Sinclair.
Alessandro Sinclair, a prominent CEO of the Sinclair Company, is your everyday rich man who has casual flings and moves on-until he met Athena Escarra. He found himself irresistibly attracted to her and would do anything to have her again.
Chapter 1
I've tried to forget him.
He's engraved in my mind like I haven't seen him for over six months. I can still remember his touch, his hands roaming all over my body, the feeling of his mouth touching every inch of me. How he was able to give me the best orgasm I ever had.
I can still hear his whispers that sent me over the edge. I can feel the tightness in my stomach as he held me from my release. He's the kind of memory that will haunt you in a good and bad way.
My night with him didn't just revolve around sex. I got my first tattoo with him. The butterfly tattoo that we both got on our hands didn't hurt as much as I thought it would, but it was probably because I was drunk at the time.
That was the first time I was able to laugh and feel good without it feeling forced. The passion and excitement didn't last long. I had a husband to go back to while feeling an immense amount of guilt. I came up with a good lie about the tattoo and why I was out all night, luckily, he believed me.
Six months later and he still doesn't know. I still haven't told my husband that I had the best sex of my life. That I can't get that Greek God out of my mind. Alessandro will truly be a memory that'll be hard to forget, I thought to myself.
A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts. I looked up from my computer and saw my assistant, Joseline. She had light brown hair and dark ocean eyes, wearing a simple dark purple knee-high skirt and a white button up. "Your 6:00 is here."
"Send her in." Joseline nodded and walked back to the front. I pulled out Miranda's file from my desk drawer and a few papers she'd need to sign.
"Mrs. Escarra." She greeted with a smile. She wore a coffee brown maxi bodycon dress that hugged her slim figure well.
"Hi Miranda. Please, take a seat." I set her file down on my desk and took a seat just as she did. "How's your day?"
"Good. Yours?"
"Great." I gave her a small smile and she set her purse on the chair beside her. "Now, about your case. I highly doubt we'll be able to reach the amount you're hoping for with your divorce. Your husband has agreed to settle and give you the house, cars and half a million dollars. The judge will most likely see this as more than enough."
She moved her hair behind her ear and scooted to the edge of the seat. "He, Brandon, cheated on me and got her pregnant while we were trying for a child. I want to leave him broke. I'm not settling until I get what I want."
I sighed and out the papers back into the folder, already knowing her decision. "I understand believe me I do. But the judge will not care if he broke your marriage vows. Most judges, similar to the one we're dealing with, just want to get cases like these over with. You'd be spending more money than you'd get out."
I folded my hands on my desk while she took a moment to think about it. "Will you still fight it if I didn't want to settle?" Biting back a sigh, I nodded. "Then I'd like to get what I'm owned."
Miranda gave me more details on the affair Brandon had and I went over legal things about it with her for an hour. She grabbed her purse and stood up. "Thank you again. See you Wednesday."
I stood up and shook her hand. "No problem. See you Wednesday." She smiled at me, and I followed behind her as she walked out of my office. Joseline was packing her things getting ready to leave for the night. "Have a good night, Joseline."
"You as well, Mrs. Escarra." She gave me a small wave as she left. I walked back into my office and packed a few of Miranda's papers and files in my briefcase before grabbing my bag and leaving.
As I slipped inside of my car, I took my heels off and set them in the passenger along with my purse and briefcase. While driving the little butterfly on my hand caught my eye and I smiled at his memory.
Your married, Athena. Get yourself under control. I took a deep breath and thought of my husband instead of my one-night stand. When I pulled into the driveway of our home his car was sitting outside, meaning he had gotten home earlier.
I grabbed my things and walked inside barefoot. Oliver smiled at me as I walked in, setting my things on the sofa. He walked over with a glass of water in hand. "How was your day baby?"
He walked back over to the kitchen, and I followed him. "Tiring as usual. Miranda decided to go through with the hard route with her divorce."
He placed a plate of tacos on the counter and went to make his own plate. "I'm sorry you're going to have to be in court for a few days." He sat beside me at the table with his plate of food. "My day was amazing though. We partnered up with the Jameson-Brown company and now we're pretty close to being more powerful than the Sinclair's."
I sighed but smiled, and went to eat the food he made. I felt him staring at the side of my head but decided against looking at him. "I think we should celebrate this." He moved his plate, that he didn't touch at all, and went to place a kiss on my cheek.
Oliver kissed down my neck and placed his hand on my thigh. "I haven't finished eating yet." I chuckled. He kissed up and down my neck before moving to my jaw and I closed my eyes trying not to think about him. "Let me eat something then I'll meet you upstairs." I kissed him quickly and winked flirtatiously. He nodded with a big smile on his face.
As he walked upstairs, I let out a big breath of air. I always tried to avoid sex with him after what happened because of how guilty I'd feel afterwards. I still haven't told him and every time I try to, I overthink it and end up just saying 'I love you'.
After I finished eating, I took my time to wash my plate. I stared at the staircase for a minute before walking towards our bedroom. I could only hope he was already asleep. I walked inside of out bedroom, and he was sitting on the bed, scrolling through his phone. He set his phone down on the nightstand as he walked over to me.
He slipped my shirt over my head then turned me around to unzip my skirt. We both stood in our underwear as we kissed passionately. He picked me up and carried me over to our bed. We had slow sex, but it didn't last as long as I hoped. We or more specifically he was done in three minutes.
He moved to lay beside me, turning his back to me. "I love you." I said as I tried to cuddle him.
"I love you too but I'm not in the mood for cuddling tonight." He shrugged me off of him.
"Oh." Is all I said as I turned my back to his. I hated this. I hated how he would never hold me after only spending a second inside of me. But I had no reason to feel hurt by this. I cheated. I don't have a right to be upset because he didn't hold me. It didn't make me feel any better that I wanted another man to be beside me that wasn't my husband. This guilt is going to eat me alive.

He didn't finish. He didn't need to.
I didn't tell him to stop.
Instead, my fingers curled into his shirt, clutching the fabric as though it was my only anchor. Something in him snapped—something he had been holding back for too long. His mouth found mine in a kiss that wasn't tender, but hungry, desperate.
I gasped into him, his hand sliding up to cup my jaw, holding me as if afraid I might vanish.
"You drive me insane," he breathed against my mouth, his lips trailing to my throat. "I can't lose you, Ella. Not you."
My head fell back, a soft sound escaping me as his fingers memorized my waist. My anger melted beneath his desperation.
"James..." I whispered, more plea than protest.
His hand caught mine, fingers threading together tightly. "I'll bring him back. I swear it. Just... don't turn away from me. Please."
The word please—low, ragged, almost broken—undid me more than anything else could have.
