Introduction

To win back his one true love, my husband sent me, pregnant and vulnerable, straight into the clutches of a rival mob's dungeon.
I was torn apart by vicious dogs, a brutal end for both me and my unborn child.
After death, my spirit drifted back home, only to hear him coldly chuckle, "Let her learn her lesson; she won't come back until she admits she was wrong."
It wasn't until a mangled, rotting body was dumped at his feet, and he saw the blood-soaked wedding ring on its finger, that this heartless mob boss finally snapped...

Chapter 1

The dungeon beneath the Luches estate reeked of blood and death.

I'd been locked down here for five straight days without a drop of water. Vivian's father, the head of the Luches family, stood outside the iron bars, hurling curses at me.

"The great Campbell princess? Arthur's wife?"

"You're nothing but a pathetic scapegoat! You hurt my daughter, and now you're gonna pay!"

At his command, the gate swung open.

Snarling dogs charged straight at me.

I wrapped my arms around my swollen belly, desperate to shield my baby. But it was too late—fangs tore through my flesh like paper.

I choked on my last breath, dying in agony. Two lives snuffed out in one.

As I died, my left hand clenched into a fist. The dogs had already ripped off several fingers, but my ring finger—the one wearing Arthur's wedding band—I'd kept tucked safely in my palm, untouched.

That ring was supposed to be his promise to me. Forever.

I thought death would be the end. Instead, my spirit peeled away from my mangled corpse and drifted back to the Campbell estate. Back to my home.

But the moment I walked through the door, I saw Vivian propped up in bed, her shoulder wrapped in pristine white bandages.

That was where I'd "accidentally" grazed her during the shootout between our families—pure self-defense.

And there was my husband, Arthur, the current head of the Campbell family, sitting at her bedside, gently blowing on a spoonful of soup before feeding it to her.

"Arthur..." Vivian lowered her lashes, squeezing out a few crocodile tears. "Maybe you should just bring Elena back. The Luches aren't exactly known for their hospitality. I'm worried she's suffering over there. Honestly, this is just a scratch—she shouldn't have to take the fall for me like this."

Arthur paused, spoon in midair, disgust flickering in his eyes.

"She doesn't deserve your sympathy." He set the bowl down and pulled Vivian into his arms. "She's been riding on Daddy's coattails her whole life, acting like she owns the place. Vicious as they come. You're too sweet and innocent to deal with someone like her. If I don't teach her a lesson now, she'll never learn to back off."

Vivian nestled against his chest, a smug smile tugging at her lips, though her voice stayed sickeningly meek. "But... what if she hurts me for what happened?"

"As long as I'm around, no one's gonna hurt you."

I floated there, watching the whole scene, wanting to laugh. But no sound came out.

Just then, the door burst open. Marcus, the Campbell family's second-in-command and once my father's most loyal man, rushed in looking frantic.

He didn't even glance at Vivian. He dropped to one knee in front of Arthur. "Boss, I'm begging you—bring the missus back! She's the old boss's precious daughter! The Luches are ruthless psychos. God knows what they've already done to her!"

Arthur's expression turned ice-cold. "Marcus, watch yourself. The Campbells and the Luches just signed a peace deal. Elena deliberately shot Vivian out of pure jealousy, trying to sabotage everything. She's poison. A little suffering will do her good."

"But boss..." Marcus's voice cracked. "That place is a death trap!"

"Enough." Arthur cut him off, annoyed. "Let her cool off in that cell for a few more days. Three days from now, send someone to pick her up."

Three days from now?

That's when it finally hit me.

This wasn't about the Luches family's rage or revenge. This was my husband—the man I'd fallen for at first sight ten years ago—giving them permission to use me as a punching bag for his precious Vivian.

He was still scheming, still playing puppet master, still expecting me to come crawling back.

But Arthur, you're never getting Elena back.

Because the wife you're so eager to "teach a lesson", is nothing but a rotting corpse right now.

Kieran Vaughn. Wealthy lawyer, werewolf, and apparently, he thinks I'm his mate.

When hunters start targeting me to get to him, Kieran drags me into his pristine penthouse for "protection." Now I'm living with a man who looks at me like I'm his last meal, whose touch sets my skin on fire, and who's barely holding onto his control.

He says everyone he loves dies. I say that's not my problem except it is because I'm falling for this broken, dangerous man and his beast.

And in his world? Love will get you killed.
