Felicity, Not Fertility: The Alpha's Lucky Mistake
Fuzzy Melissa · Completed · 8.3k Words
Introduction
His reasoning? My name was Felicity, which apparently sounded close enough to Fertility for him to call it a blessing from the Moon Goddess.
On my first night in the packhouse, I tried to explain.
"Alpha Kaelen, my name is Felicity. F-E-L-I-C-I-T-Y. It means lucky, not fertile. Those are two very different things."
Kaelen merely gave me a cold look.
"Then you have nothing to worry about. Follow the schedule, and Blackmoor will have its heir."
He even had a whole book dedicated to the task. Apparently, being the Alpha meant turning everything—including having pups—into a military operation.
But something strange happened before I could prove him wrong.
A poisonous snake died before it could bite him. His bedridden mother suddenly showed signs of recovery. And the pack's enemies began suffering one ridiculous disaster after another.
All while I was just trying to survive the packhouse, avoid bitter tonics, and find something decent to eat.
I told Kaelen I was his good-luck charm, not his future baby factory.
He didn't believe me.
But if my luck was really as powerful as I suspected, Blackmoor was about to discover that the biggest mistake its Alpha had ever made wasn't choosing the wrong woman.
It was refusing to believe her name.
Chapter 1
The day my father sold me to the Alpha of Blackmoor, he counted the gold twice.
One hundred gold coins.
That was all I was worth to him.
"Try to make yourself useful," he said, pocketing the last coin. "The Alpha needs an heir, and you have a rare gift. This is the best offer you'll ever get."
I stared at him. "You sold your own daughter."
"I secured your future." He straightened his jacket, avoiding my eyes. "Do you have any idea how many families would kill for a chance to serve the Alpha?"
"Serve him how?"
He gave me a look that suggested I was being deliberately stupid.
Before I could ask another question, the guards arrived to escort me away.
I had never met Alpha Kaelen, but I'd heard enough stories to know that Blackmoor's ruler wasn't a man anyone wanted to disappoint.
He was ruthless, proud, and utterly devoted to his pack.
Under his leadership, Blackmoor had become one of the strongest territories in the region.
There was just one problem.
The pack hadn't welcomed a newborn pup in years.
Some blamed the Moon Goddess. Others whispered about an ancient curse.
Whatever the reason, the elders were convinced that unless Kaelen produced an heir soon, Blackmoor would lose its place among the great packs.
And apparently, I was the solution.
By the time I reached the packhouse, I'd already decided that if this man expected me to fix a curse, he'd better have a very good explanation.
Instead, I was taken straight to his study.
Kaelen stood behind a massive oak desk, dressed in black from collar to boots.
He was tall, broad-shouldered, and unfairly handsome in the cold, severe way of a winter storm.
His dark eyes settled on me. "Felicity?"
"Yes. That's me."
He glanced at the document in his hand. "Your name is Fertility."
I blinked. "No, it's Felicity."
He turned the paper toward me.
The registry clerk had apparently decided that one little letter was optional. Across the top of the official document, in neat black ink, was the word Fertility.
I stared at it.
Then I stared at him. "That's a spelling mistake."
"The registry was verified by the pack healer."
"Then your pack healer needs glasses."
His expression didn't change. "Do you understand why you've been brought here?"
"Because my father sold me for a hundred gold coins?"
His jaw tightened, but he ignored the question.
"Blackmoor needs an heir. The elders have given me until the next Blood Moon to demonstrate that the curse affecting our bloodline can be broken."
"And you think I'm going to break it?"
"The registry identifies you as a woman blessed with exceptional fertility."
I nearly choked. "I'm sorry. What?"
"You heard me."
"Alpha, I think there's been a mistake. My name is Felicity. F-E-L-I-C-I-T-Y. Happiness. Good fortune. Not Fertility. Babies have absolutely nothing to do with it."
For the first time, something shifted in his expression.
Not doubt. Annoyance.
"You expect me to believe that an official registry error has brought you to my door?"
"I expect you to read the actual spelling of my name!"
He set the document down.
"Your father accepted payment. The pack healer has reviewed your records. The elders are aware of your arrival. I will not dismiss this arrangement because you dislike it."
"I don't dislike it. I object to being mistaken for a walking baby factory!"
Silence filled the study.
Kaelen rose from his chair.
I immediately took one step back.
He noticed.
"I have no intention of hurting you," he said, his voice clipped. "But you will understand the responsibility you've been given."
"Given? I was sold!"
His eyes hardened.
"Your personal feelings don't change the situation. You will be provided with a room, food, and everything necessary for your stay. The healer will oversee your health, and the elders will expect regular updates."
"Regular updates about what? Whether I've magically produced an heir overnight?"
"Felicity."
"That's my name. Thank you for remembering."
His mouth became a thin line.
He reached for another document and slid it across the desk.
It was a schedule. A very detailed schedule.
There were healer appointments, meals, tonic doses, moon-phase observations, and consultations with the elders. Every hour of my day had been accounted for.
At the bottom, someone had written in bold letters:
[PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: SECURE AN HEIR BEFORE THE NEXT BLOOD MOON.]
I stared at the page. "You cannot be serious."
"Everything has been arranged."
"You've scheduled my entire life?"
"Until the matter is resolved."
"What if I refuse?"
"Then you may explain to the elders why you chose to jeopardize the future of an entire pack."
I looked at him in disbelief.
He wasn't even pretending to care what I wanted.
To Kaelen, I wasn't a person who had been betrayed by her own father. I wasn't a woman with a name, a history, or a future of her own.
I was a solution to a problem. And he had already decided what I was for.
A knock sounded at the door. A healer entered carrying a tray with a small glass bottle.
"Alpha. The first Moonroot tonic."
Kaelen nodded toward the table.
"Leave it there. Felicity will take it after dinner, according to the healer's instructions."
I eyed the dark liquid. "What does it do?"
"Supports your health."
"That's not an answer."
"It is the only one you need right now."
I folded my arms. "I'm not drinking anything until I know what's in it."
The healer looked uncomfortable. Kaelen looked irritated.
"You will have an opportunity to ask questions during your examination tomorrow," he said. "Until then, follow the instructions you've been given."
"And if I don't?"
He opened the study door.
"Then you may pray to the Moon Goddess that your stubbornness doesn't cost you more than your freedom."
I walked past him, furious enough to set the entire packhouse on fire.
At least, that was what I intended to do.
Then I saw the schedule still lying on the desk.
An idea occurred to me—if Kaelen wanted a woman who followed instructions, perhaps I could give him exactly what he wanted.
I picked up the quill beside his papers and added a note to the bottom of the schedule.
[Reminder: Before attempting to produce an heir, confirm that the Alpha can tell the difference between a woman and a spelling error.]
Then I added a smiley face.
Let him schedule that.

Inked Adonis - Mafia Romance
Of me saying I want to climb him like a tree.
And he just. Texted. Back.
It's the dog's fault, really.
If this untrained Great Dane I'm walking had any manners at all, I never would've ended up here:
With my leash wrapped around the most gorgeous man I've ever seen.
Lucky for me, the guy is a good sport about it.
(Although his joke that “Dogs take after their owners” hits a little too close to home when Rufus starts humping his leg.)
He leaves me with his business card and a smile that makes my knees weak.
I'm still pinching myself as me and the bestie resume our walk.
“Methinks you had a little crush on him,” she accuses.
Not thinking and a little flustered by the whole experience, I reply, “I’d wrap my legs around his waist tighter than that leash.”
THAT'S when she reveals that she'd been recording my response.
THAT'S when she gives me the most devilish grin I've ever seen and says, “You're welcome.”
And THAT'S when she hands me my phone and reveals...
She sent the recording to him.
My heart is in my throat as those three little dots appear…
Then a text.
“PROVE IT.”
CHASING GHOSTS
Tango 2 the Alpha's Heart
My gaze snapped to his. He was smiling, causing my heart to skip a painful beat. Before I could respond, the music began, and my body instinctively reacted to the sweet melody.
I found myself molded to Lex's will, my feet irresistibly following the dance steps.
The crowd gasped as Lex pulled me into a more intimate position, his hands roaming over my body in a seductive manner.
The experience was both terrifying and magical, allowing me to feel every longing emotion through the dance.
I soon found myself lost in his arms.
When the music finally stopped, my arms were wrapped around his neck, his hands resting on my back, our noses almost touching. He gazed deeply into my eyes.
The ballroom fell silent.
Was he about to kiss me?

The Billionaire's Surrogate's Secret

My heart stuttered.
This could not be real.
“But the rules—“
“I made them. I can destroy them. I already destroyed them when I kissed you.” He was dangerously close now, but all I kept getting was danger signals combined with the panic, alarm, lust and above all, the guilt.
It was killing me.

Love's Deadly Equation
I was sent to her.
To watch her. To protect her. And, when the order comes… to kill her.
My name is Keegan Caffery. I’m the Carter Mafia’s best hitman. I don’t miss. I don’t fail.
At least, I didn’t use to.
I don’t know what it is about her that got to me first—her mouth, her mind, or the way she looks at me like I’m not what she should fear.
I’ve had a gun to her head since I walked into her life.
She knows it.
And she still doesn’t run.
She just watches me back like she’s studying a problem she refuses to call impossible.
She’s the one variable I can’t control.
And God help me… I don’t want to.
I have an order. I have loyalty. I have a trigger.
But every time I imagine it—
I can’t stand it.
Her or me. That’s the math.
It’s a deadly equation I don’t want to solve.
⬥ Maisie ⬥
I’m not ordinary. I stopped pretending long ago.
My name is Maisie Seo. IQ 145. Clinical genius.
Which sounds impressive until you realize what it actually means: I don’t fit anywhere people expect me to.
I see patterns everywhere. Outcomes before they happen. People like equations I’ve already solved.
It gets lonely in a world you’ve already figured out.
So I dull myself down. Smoke the edges off. Pretend, badly, to be the kind of normal that lets people stay.
Then he walked in.
I knew what he was immediately. Dangerous. Intentional. Wrong in all the right ways.
I should be afraid of him.
I keep waiting for that to kick in.
Instead, I’m fascinated.
Because for the first time in my life… I’ve found something I can’t solve.
He is my deadly equation.

MOONLIT CHASE
But no, I had to walk through the park at midnight like an idiot. Now I've seen something I can't unsee—a massive black wolf tearing apart three men, then shifting into the hottest guy I've ever laid eyes on.
Kieran Vaughn. Wealthy lawyer, werewolf, and apparently, he thinks I'm his mate.
Here's the problem: I don't do relationships. I definitely don't do supernatural things. I absolutely don't do rich guys who think they can control my life just because their inner wolf has decided I smell like home.
When hunters start targeting me to get to him, Kieran drags me into his pristine penthouse for "protection." Now I'm living with a man who looks at me like I'm his last meal, whose touch sets my skin on fire, and who's barely holding onto his control.
He says everyone he loves dies. I say that's not my problem except it is because I'm falling for this broken, dangerous man and his beast.
And in his world? Love will get you killed.
