Chapter 1
Clarissa’s pov
May 17th, 2024.
I stepped out of the taxi exhausted from the stress of today’s activities. Walking slowly inside, I tried looking for my phone as the passage was silent.
After I got to the front door, I tried pressing the lock code but realized it was broken yet again. I fixed it last week and now it’s broken.
Seriously, Karl better do a more better job at this husband thing because I’m starting to get tired of his lazy and non challant attitude.
I’m Clarissa Devor, 24 with a killer shape and beauty face. I’m married to Karl Gerald and today will mark our 3years anniversary. I was born wealthy and so was my husband and that was why it was easier doing anything I want even without his help.
I opened the door and entered into the house but for some reason, I didn’t felt angry neither comfortable. I was rather feeling scared, like something I wouldn’t like is happening inside the house.
I saw two footwear’s at the front door and just shake off the feeling as I walked in further. The living room was scattered just as usual and I understand why it was still unkept, I ordered all maids to go on leave.
I picked up the few clothes on the floor, realizing a female wear in one of it, I knew he was at home so I just walked towards the bedroom.
I stopped when I heard a voice only I knew so well, Karl. “I didn’t expect her to be stupid enough to take the bait.” He laughed after the statement, I gasped.
“I just wish she’ll die soon enough.”
“Honey, you said the poison will only take her two years but today marks the third year you both had been married, when will the poison take action.”
Another voice I feared to hear, the person I’ve been looking up to my whole life, whom I trust and love the most.
This the voice I heard , it sounded like mom’s voice but only one person had that voice, my sister, Lily.
I walked more forward to see who he was discussing with and lo and behold it was my sister like I suspected.
They were both on bed under duvet discussing and laughing as they talked about how they’ll be able to spend time together with no obstacle after my death.
“Wait, are you sure she signed the original document of passing the company to you just next week.” Lilly said to him
He smile touching her cheeks, “You should know I’m more sharp than what you think, she did with no mistake.”
His words were piercing into me, I started breathing heavily, my body shaking while my mouth trembles as I hold tight to the clothes in my hand.
“I can’t wait for her to die then we’ll have everything all to ourselves.” She whispered into his ear before kissing him on his mouth as he reciprocated.
“Stoppppppppp.” I screamed breathing heavily. I couldn’t believe this people would stoop so low to this point.
They both disengaged from themselves quickly while Lolly stood up covering herself up with the duvet, Karl was left on his trouser.
“You guys disgust me so so much, I mean what do you think you are doing huh.” I screamed. Lilly sighed before reaching out for her clothes which was in my hand. She put on the top and let go of the duvet which made her look seductive.
“Rissa, screaming wouldn’t help with your health, remember you have a weak heart.” She said touching my hand softly, I fling away her hand disgustingly.
“You don’t deserve to tell me that.” I’ve always known Lilly to be devious and tricky, that was why I was less surprised when Dad passed the company to me instead of her.
She was always annoyed at everything and everyone, worse is when things doesn’t go her way, she go extra miles to make it her way but to people out there, she’s an Angel and I was just a junior sister who keeps taking everything away from her because I was my parents favorite.
“Easy there lover girl, I never said I wanted to tell you that, I was about saying it’ll fast up your death which will be in favor to us if only you had allowed me to end my sentence.” She snatched Karl’s top from me and went to his side giving it to him.
“What did I ever do wrong to you Karl, what did I do? I’ve loved and cherished you every single day, even when you wronged me, I just turn blinded to it. Your toxic traits, the way you do things, I’ve never.” I cried in immense pain.
Even if someone will betray me, I would have begged it shouldn’t be this two. Lilly might be a pain in the ass but I still loved her so much.
She do has a way of getting into me anytime she wronged me and her persistent in always pursuing what she wanted gave me the strength to be a woman.
“But I just don’t want to believe what I said, it might be a hallucination, it’s too vague to believe.” I ran to Karl, holding his hand tightly hoping I’ll wake up from this dream.
He pushed me off roughly which made me fall down to the ground hurting my knees in the process, “Ouch.” I winced.
“Why will you think of it as a hallucination, like are you that dumb enough to keep losing your mind every seconds, this is why I chose Lilly over you. She’s so smart, beautiful and a damsel.”
“I mean who wouldn’t love a damsel like her.” He pecked her lips saying that, she laughed it off, “That’s why I’ve loved and lay low for years while tolerating this bastard who came and destroyed everything.” She roll her eyes.
Karl freed her and she sat down on a chair beside her, he came to me and scrounge down to my face.
“Your presence irritate me a lot, I’ve tried to keep up with it for 4years, since we had been dating. Since I had no choice but to get married to you, I just have to do it to earn your trust so you’ll sign the company over to my name but you took long enough.”
My breathing raising every minute, with tears clouding my eyes. I couldn’t sort out what I was feeling.
Was it anger, pain, emptiness, anxiety, or betrayal? I just felt null. “When has this been going on?” The question I hoped he wouldn’t respond to, he asked himself.
I shake my head hoping he wouldn’t say anything anymore, he was toying with my brain and emotion.
“Simple. This affair started on the night of your birthday, April 26th, 2020. Hold on, that should be our first year together as a partner.” His laughter was driving me insane, I felt like punching him right in the face.
“I said enough.” I screamed, my tears came flooding out. “I trusted you two, when you knew you loved her instead of me, why didn’t you save me the pain of being hurt by you now after 4years of nothingness? Why didn’t you seek her hand in marriage instead of proposing to me huh?”
I stood up, feeling dizzy at first, I tried to relax my mind cleaning my tears while aiding myself with the bedroom door handle.
“You both are terrible and a bad combination, do you think if he could betray me, who was his lover for 4years for you who had nothing, do you think he wouldn’t hesitate to betray you if he had bigger opportunities. You were just a tool to get what he want. A fool to each other.” I said making my way out to the front door.
“How dare you?” I heard Lilly screamed from behind, I looked back to see what was wrong but my head met with the iron chair, she landed a big hit on me causing me to fall down hitting my head on the ground loud.
I couldn’t feel life within me, my whole body and heart felt numb. Blood was gushing out from my head and I was gasping for breath.
“Please, if anyone can hear me, please save me. Just one more chance.” My voice faint, I could hear Lilly calling my name from a distant.
“I think she’s dead. What should we do now?” Everything sound distance and low. “Let’s get out of here, if anybody ask, tell them you weren’t around and you had no idea who could have done this.”
I closed my eyes slowly as I fade in to darkness.
«May 10, 2022: Press conference»
I shut my eyes as the light was too bright at first, what was happening? Am I in heaven already?
I could hear camera clicking which made me open my eyes, in front of me were bunch of people who were looking at me.
“Will you give your sister a higher position now that you are the chairwoman of Darcel Group.” I was confused, staring down at the desk in front of me, it started becoming clear.
A press conference. And in it, it was May 10th, 2022, I staggered backwards shocked at the sight before me.
What’s going on? Why am I in the past?
The door opened and Karl came out looking handsome as usual, he walked towards me and stopped beside me.
He faced the press and bow down before facing me, he smiled and held my hand, kneeling down.
He brought out the ring in his pocket, “Will you marry me, Clarissa Devor.” He popped out the question.
