Introduction

Three mafia kings bid for her.

She was mated to the Alpha who never touches her. No one respects her. She had always lived, like a mouse, stepping around everyone, apologizing to the people who stepped on her tail.

So she escaped.

In the new pack, she might look like a rogue omega, but she's finally free! Until...

Celine woke up slowly. She tried opening her eyes, but it was dark. Her head swam, and she felt nauseous like she had been drinking, but she hadn't been…

Where was she? What was going on?*

The noise outside was too loud for her to make any sense of it. She tried moving around to figure out what was going on.

At the bottom part of the cage she was in, the light flickered in.

"Ten thousand? Anyone for ten thousand?"

Celine kept her eyes tightly shut, facing the terrible realization that she was being auctioned off.

"Fifteen!"
"Sixteen!"
"Nineteen!"

She ignored the cheers.

"Five hundred," Another powerful voice spoke up, and Celine felt her knees buckle.

What was going on? This wasn't right… No one should want her, so why was…

The auctioneer didn't take a break this time, the excitement in his voice palpable as the bid only climbed higher and higher.

Celine could pick out three main people who were doing the bidding, leaving the others in the dust.

Celine is the orphan Luna of Moonstone Pack. She's hated by the pack and treated like the runt despite her position. After years of enduring the cheating of her mate, the Alpha of Moonstone Pack, and the maltreatment from her pack members, she decides to leave, running off to Reef City to start a new life.

Her plans are instantly cut short when she's kidnapped and auctioned off, and she's bought by none other than one of the Mafia Alpha Kings running Reef City, Asher Knight.

Celine gently poured herself a glass of peach juice from a glass jar, the pack’s kitchen was bright with sunlight, laughter coming from a group of Omegas behind her. She was disappointed but not surprised when someone purposefully bumped into her, making her spill the juice all over herself.

She gasped as the cold juice splashed on her face, completely staining the loose floral patterned dress she had on.

“Ugh, are you blind, Luna Celine?” A scathing voice spoke, the title of Luna was said like an insult. “You got your muddy water all over me.”

Celine just slowly closed her eyes, partly to keep the juice out of her eyes and also to remain calm. She had quickly learned that lashing back only increased the bullying, because no one was on her side and she couldn’t stand up for herself if there was no one to defend her.

“Did you just roll your eyes?” Another Omega joined in, shoving her, “How rude can you be?”

“Just let it go, Cass, it’s fine.” The first Omega that had bumped into her said and Celine didn’t need to open her eyes to see that she had an evil smile on her delicate round face.

“It’s not!” Cass retorted, raising her voice to attract attention. “She thinks she can get away with anything just because she’s the Luna!”

Celine forced herself to open her eyes and face the Omegas that had surrounded her, knowing that if she didn’t de-escalate the situation, she would end up surrounded by a slew of them. “I’m really sorry about spilling my drink on you, Esme, I wasn’t paying attention.”

She hated the smug looks on their faces, hated that she couldn’t do anything about it but endure, running off before they found another reason to shove her around some more or pinch bruises into her skin.

Celine only stopped running when she got to the top floor of the pack where the Alpha’s apartment was located as well as the Head Beta and other important figures in the pack, leaning against a wall to catch her breath, her wet dress sticking to her skin.

She looked down at the dowdy dress she had on, her lower lip trembling as she tried to force back her tears. No matter how hard she tried to blend into the background, her pack members never left her alone. She was mated to the Alpha but no one respected that and it was because her mate also didn’t respect her.

She had been mated to Noah for two years now but her life just didn’t get any better, the treatment from the other pack members worsened and Noah treated her like a squatter at best and t__he hired help at worst.

Celine had endured this ever since she was orphaned at ten and it was because her father had been the previous Head Beta so she was promised to be the next Luna while he was still alive, and no one liked this, not even Noah who was then the future Alpha.

However, he couldn’t deny his father so he mated her, if it could even be called that. It had been two years but she was yet to bear his mark, birthing the successor of the pack was out of the question because Noah didn’t even touch her.

She wiped the juice off her face, wincing because of how much it stung her eyes. Usually, she hid out in the library to avoid everyone but she had been trying to get lunch for herself long after the pack had eaten together, only to run into Esme and Cass who had no doubt been waiting for her to show up.

Celine didn’t like to stay in her shared apartment with Noah but she would have to take a shower and change out of her wet clothes, it was starting to dry out and get sticky, it was too uncomfortable to keep wearing it.

She had to curb the urge to knock on the door, she had been living in the apartment for two years but it didn’t feel like it belonged to her, and maybe that was because it didn’t. She gently pushed open the door, trying not to make any noise. This was how she had always lived, like a mouse, stepping around everyone, apologizing to the people who stepped on her tail.

Although she would have been happy to sleep in a spare room, Noah had ordered her to share the main bedroom with him and she knew that was to keep up the pretense with his parents that they were happily mated.

The previous Alpha and his Luna no longer lived in the pack house, instead they were on a cruise ship, traveling around the world.

She opened the door to their shared bedroom, lost in thought only to stumble to a stop, a world of pain in her crystal blue eyes at the scene in front of her. Noah was right in their shared bed with another pack Omega, touching her in a way he never did to her.

They didn’t even slow down or act like they registered her presence, Celine forcing herself to move her frozen feet so she could step out again and close the door. She slid down the door with her back against it, crouching on the floor, the smell of sugary peaches nauseating her.

Celine was well aware of Noah’s unfaithfulness but at least he had the decency to keep it away from her, at least that was what she thought. So it meant that the entire time she hid out in the library, he did this?

The wanton sounds from the room that only got louder the longer she sat in front propelled Celine to move, she went to a guest room to clean up. She took off her dress and tossed it in the sink, undoing her hair. She always braided it and kept it in a tight knot because it was a weak point as the pack members, mostly other Omegas, didn’t hesitate to cruelly pull on it whenever she left it down.

I gasped into him, his hand sliding up to cup my jaw, holding me as if afraid I might vanish.
"You drive me insane," he breathed against my mouth, his lips trailing to my throat. "I can't lose you, Ella. Not you."
My head fell back, a soft sound escaping me as his fingers memorized my waist. My anger melted beneath his desperation.
"James..." I whispered, more plea than protest.
His hand caught mine, fingers threading together tightly. "I'll bring him back. I swear it. Just... don't turn away from me. Please."
The word please—low, ragged, almost broken—undid me more than anything else could have.

The chef’s face morphed into existential crisis.

I shivered.
