"Still pulling this stunt?" he sneered, jerking out of my grip. "Faking an attack over a little jealousy? Then fucking die."
No one believed me. No one helped.
Pulling out my phone with trembling and numb fingers, I sent a final text to my brother before everything went completely dark.
Chapter 1
To celebrate his startup's funding, my boyfriend Liam forced me to eat a cake baked by his female best friend, Mia.

Chloe's POV
"Who the hell are you texting now? Tattling to your brother again? "
Liam snatched my phone away, looking at me with pure disgust.
"Jesus, Chloe, are you ever gonna stop crying for him to fix your tantrums? You act like a fucking toddler."
I tried to grab it back, but the allergic reaction had drained all my strength. I made it halfway up before collapsing back onto the couch.
My throat had swollen almost completely shut. Every breath felt like swallowing razor blades.
"Liam..." My voice came out in a wet wheeze. "Peanuts... I need my EpiPen. Please."
He looked down at me. Hives had spread from my arms up to my collarbone, red and furious.
His annoyance faltered. Seeing the raw, creeping welts on my neck, he stepped forward, hand reaching out.
"Shit, Chloe, are you actually—"
"Liam, seriously?" Mia slid smoothly between us, resting a hand on his chest to stop him.
She had Liam's black jacket draped over her shoulders, and was holding my EpiPen with that sweet little smile.
"You're not actually buying this, are you?" she tilted her head, voice soft and innocent. "Everyone knows you're allergic to peanuts, Chloe. Why would I put them in? It genuinely hurts that you'd accuse me like that."
Half an hour ago, the second Mia walked over with that cake, I smelled peanuts. I said no. Her eyes got all watery. Liam kept insisting it was fine, pressuring me to just take one bite.
So I did. And here we are.
"Cut the..." I couldn't finish the sentence. I lunged at her, swiping desperately at the silver tube in her hand. "Give it."
Mia took a quick step back, letting me grab empty air. My knees gave out, and I crashed hard onto the sticky floor.
"Chloe... are you seriously trying to attack me right now?" Her voice broke perfectly as she looked down at me. "I was just holding it so you wouldn't drop it! I spent hours baking for you guys... I just wanted to celebrate Liam's funding..."
I tried to scream at her, but only a sickening gag escaped my throat. My vision swam.
"Enough!" Liam stepped in front of her, face dark. "I watched her bake it, Chloe. There were no peanuts. Stop making a scene."
"Look!" I pushed myself up on one trembling arm and shoved it toward his face, covered in welts. "Are these fake?"
Liam glanced at it, his jaw clenching.
Before he could say anything, Mia grabbed his sleeve gently.
"Liam, wait... Remember last time she drank too much at the frat house? She broke out just like this. It's just an alcohol flush. If she takes epinephrine right now, her heart rate will spike dangerously."
Liam bought it instantly, his voice turning harsh.
"You hear that? She's worried about your heart, and you're over here accusing her of attempted murder. You're embarrassing yourself."
"I'm dying!" I gasped, tears of absolute betrayal spilling hot down my cheeks. I stared up at the man I loved. "You piece of shit... You forced it down my throat... Are you really going to stand there and watch me die?"
His face went red.
Getting cursed at by his girlfriend in front of the guys was the ultimate humiliation.
"Fuck you! I am so fucking sick of you. You're getting more psycho by the day."
Liam stepped closer, towering over me.
"Mia's been killing herself for six months helping me get that Sterling investment, and this is the thanks she gets? We all know exactly what this is. You saw her drink from my cup, and now you're pulling this stunt because you're jealous."
I tried to respond but could only gag, my airway shrinking to a pinhole.
Mia dabbed at her dry eyes, then gently pulled Liam's arm to coax him back as she spun toward the crowd.
"Alright, alright, don't let her ruin your night, Liam. Let her sleep off the alcohol—yo, check this out!"
She flipped my EpiPen into the air, spun it around her fingers like a baton, and caught it with a flourish. The silver injector glinted under the party lights.
The guys went absolutely insane.
"YOOO Mia!"
"No fucking way!"
"That's amazing, do it again!"
Whistles, hooting, hands slamming tables. My lifeline was now a party trick.
Everything started going fuzzy. The ringing in my ears got louder, drowning out the music. I couldn't get enough air. With my last bit of strength, I clawed at Liam's sleeve.
"Liam... please... dying..."
He ripped his arm away so violently I fell back into the coffee table.
"Die from cake?" He let out a cold snort. "Then fucking die."
