Introduction

On the night of her seventeenth birthday, Nova watched a masked man walk away from the ashes of her family. On his left wrist, burned into her memory forever, was a dagger with a serpent coiled around the blade.

Six years later, drowning in her comatose brother's hospital bills, Nova works at Club Venom just to survive. Then a masked Dom with piercing green eyes walks into her VIP booth, and she sees it.

The same dagger. The same wrist. The same mark.

Nova does not run this time.

She accepts his offer. Two months as his submissive in exchange for every debt cleared. To him it is desire. To her it is access. She will get close, learn everything, and end him.

But the man beneath the mask is not what she expected. And the pull between them is not something she can explain or control.

Then Nova lands a second job as personal assistant to the Alpha King.

The moment she walks into his office, her world stops.

Same height. Same build. Same presence that makes every room feel smaller. But his eyes are darker. His wrists are bare. No tattoo. No mask.

Two men. Same face. Completely different.

Or so she believes.

What Nova does not know is that the Dom she is hunting, the Dom she is falling for, and the Alpha King turning her world upside down are all the same man.

And he is running out of time to tell her the truth before it destroys them both.

Chapter 1

The numbers on the screen didn’t change no matter how long I stared at them.

Fourteen thousand dollars.

That was the overdue balance for Eli’s life support at Mercy Private Facility. If I didn’t pay at least half of it by Friday, they would transfer my brother to a public ward. Public wards didn’t care about alpha-blooded wolves in comas. They didn’t monitor the subtle fluctuations in their brain waves. They just let them fade.

I closed the banking app on my phone and shoved the device into my locker.

"Nova, you're up," Clara called out, banging her knuckles against the doorframe of the locker room. "VIP booth three. It's a high-ranking corporate wolf from the northern territory. He’s throwing cash around like it’s water. Go get Eli’s money."

I adjusted the straps of my black silk top, checking my reflection in the cracked mirror. My amber eyes looked dull, the gold buried deep beneath layers of exhaustion. Shade, my wolf, didn't even stir. She had been quiet for six years, ever since the night the world burned.

"I'm going," I said, stepping past Clara.

"Keep your guard up," Clara whispered, her human hand catching my wrist for a brief second. "He's already drunk."

"I’m always on guard."

The main floor of Club Venom was a blur of flashing strobes and heavy bass that vibrated straight through the soles of my shoes. I ignored the crowd, walking straight toward the private corridors. Neutral territory or not, a rogue wolf like me didn't survive by making eye contact with pack alphas.

I pushed open the heavy curtain to VIP booth three.

The man sitting on the leather sofa was large, his expensive suit jacket discarded on the seat beside him. His scent marked him as an alpha—loud, aggressive, and arrogant.

"You're late," he growled, pointing a finger at the empty space in front of him. "Sit."

I didn't answer. I kept my face blank, adopting the submissive persona the club required of its performers. I stepped into the room and took my place, moving with deliberate, slow motions.

"What's your name, girl?" he asked, leaning forward.

"Nova," I replied, keeping my voice smooth, stripped of any emotion.

"A rogue name," he scoffed, reaching out to grab my waist. He pulled me down onto his lap with a heavy thud. "Let's see if you're worth the price they charge here."

I forced my muscles to relax. This was the job. This was the price of keeping Eli alive. I began to move, tracking his reactions, ensuring he stayed satisfied enough to empty his wallet before the hour ended.

The alpha laughed, a low, rumbling sound of gratification. He reached into his pocket, pulling out a thick stack of hundred-dollar bills. He tossed three of them onto the low table in front of us.

"More," I thought. "Keep going."

He reached for his phone on the table, intending to check a notification. As he stretched his arm out, his heavy gold watch slid down his forearm. The cuff of his white dress shirt rode up.

The bass in the club seemed to stop entirely.

My heart slammed against my ribs.

On the pale skin of his left wrist, burned deep into the flesh, was a scar I saw every time I closed my eyes. A thin, precise blade. A serpent coiled around it.

The Dagger Brand.

Six years of running, six years of hiding, and it was right here. This man was one of them. He was a senior enforcer of the Serpent Court. He was there the night my parents died.

"Hey. What stopped?" the alpha demanded, his grip tightening on my hip.

My breathing hitched. My wolf, Shade, suddenly roared to life inside my head, baring her teeth, demanding blood.

Kill him, she snarled. Tear his throat out.

"Look at me when I'm talking to you," the man barked, his eyes flashing a dangerous alpha red.

The terror and the rage hit me at the same time, suffocating me. I couldn't do this. Not right now. If I attacked him here, the club security would kill me before I even drew blood. I had to get away.

I tore myself out of his grip, scrambling off his lap.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" he shouted, standing up.

"I'm sorry," I choked out, backing away toward the curtain. "I can't. I'm sick."

"You don't walk out on me!"

I didn't wait to hear the rest. I turned and sprinted down the corridor, knocking past a waiter carrying a tray of drinks. Glass shattered behind me, but I didn't look back. I burst through the doors of the changing room and slammed the lock into place.

My knees gave out. I hit the floor, my hands shaking so violently I couldn't press them against my face.

He was there, Shade screamed within me. The dagger. We found him.

"Nova?" Clara’s voice came from the other side of the door, accompanied by a frantic knock. "Nova, open up. The manager is furious. The client in booth three says you walked out on him. What happened?"

I couldn't answer. I dragged my knees to my chest, staring at the blank wall, my breath coming in short, ragged gasps.

Six years of waiting. The monster wasn't a shadow anymore. He was in my city. And I was going to find out exactly how to kill him.

"Big Kai?"

He didn't respond but moved his eyes around the room, scanning the place.

"Wha...what are you doing here?"

His icy blue eyes returned to me, sending shivers down my spine. Then further dropped to my dress and then back to my eyes.

"The shit going on downstairs, what does it mean?" he asked, making my legs as weak as they are eager to flee.

"It's....it my wedding,"

He scoffed darkly. "Excuse me?"

I swallowed. "I am......getting married,"

He let out a humorless laugh, looking away and giving me lesser comfort. He looked at me with a demonic frown.

Terror washed me.

"Every single motherfucker/human being here, be it adult or child, including you, will burn before that happens,"

I woke up three years into a marriage I barely remembered—pregnant with twins that weren't my husband's.

Those words should have destroyed me, but the truth was worse: I'd been used as a broodmare by the man who swore to love me, set up in a hotel room with a stranger because My husband Alexander Cross couldn't father children himself, and now I carried the secret babies of Damon Lester—the most powerful and dangerous Alpha in San Loris—while my own family replaced me with the daughter they'd always wanted. But when that same stranger's doctor appeared at my door, when twenty million dollars exchanged hands over a fake perfume bearing my secret identity, and when Damon's gray eyes locked onto mine with recognition I couldn't afford, I realized my carefully hidden life as the legendary perfumer Vera was colliding with a pregnancy that could cost me everything.

Could I protect my babies from the husband plotting my death, hide my true identity from the Alpha who's been hunting me for years, and reclaim the freedom I'd buried along with my dreams—even if it means standing alone against the wolves who see me as nothing more than a womb to be used and discarded?

From first crush to wedding vows, George Capulet and I had been inseparable. But in our seventh year of marriage, he began an affair with his secretary.

On my birthday, he took her on vacation. On our anniversary, he brought her to our home and made love to her in our bed...

Heartbroken, I tricked him into signing divorce papers.

George remained unconcerned, convinced I would never leave him.

His deceptions continued until the day the divorce was finalized. I threw the papers in his face: "George Capulet, from this moment on, get out of my life!"

Only then did panic flood his eyes as he begged me to stay.

When his calls bombarded my phone later that night, it wasn't me who answered, but my new boyfriend Julian.

"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"

George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"

"I'm afraid that's impossible."

Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."
