Introduction

They executed his father.
Burned his family name.
Left him to die in the gutters beneath the city.

But they made one mistake.

They let Zyno Veridian survive.

In the shadows of Eryndor’s brutal underworld, Zyno awakens the Kingmaker System — a mysterious power that grows stronger through fear, loyalty, conquest, and control.

Every gang he crushes makes him stronger.
Every territory he conquers expands his empire.
Every enemy he destroys brings him closer to the truth behind his father’s execution.

Now the elites who once laughed at the fallen heir are beginning to fear his name.

Because Zyno isn’t fighting to survive anymore.

He’s building a kingdom.

And when the city finally burns…

He’ll be the one sitting on the throne.

Chapter 1

ZYNO'S POV

“I will avenge you, Father. I will restore our name and I will make them regret the day they chose to destroy the Veridians.” I said while standing in the crowded courtroom, my wrists bound tightly by cold metal chains that dug into my skin.

The air felt thick and heavy with the scent of sweat and polished wood. My father, Magnus Veridian, knelt at the center of the raised platform. Guards held him firmly even though he offered no resistance. The entire nation of Eryndor watched through screens and in person as the execution unfolded. I could not move or speak and all I could do was watch and beg for them to stop.

The judge read the charges in a clear, steady voice. Treason against the state and conspiracy to undermine the government. My father listened without any expression.

His face showed the lines of years spent in service, first as a respected advisor and later as a man who asked too many questions. I knew the accusations were false, they had twisted his words and his actions to fit their narrative. Yet here we were, on this day that would change everything.

The crowd began to stir as the final moment approached.

Whispers turned into open shouts, some people were laughing, officials were standing at the front, and their faces were calm and satisfied. They spoke one after another about the dangers my family represented. They called us traitors who had plotted in secret to seize power. Each word painted us as enemies of the people. I felt the weight of their lies press down on me.

My father raised his head and looked directly at me. His eyes held no fear but only quiet strength. In that brief moment, I remembered nights in our family home when he taught me about honor and duty. He had always believed in Eryndor’s potential for greatness, now, that belief had brought him here.

The executioner stepped forward and the room grew louder. I pulled against my chains, but they held firm. My shoulders ached from the beating I had received earlier that morning. Bruises covered my arms and back, and blood dried on my lip.

Still, I kept my eyes on him.

The blade fell quickly. A sharp sound echoed through the hall, followed by complete silence for one heartbeat. Then the crowd erupted. Cheers and mockery filled the space, people clapped and shouted insults at the Veridian name. I watched my father’s body slump forward.

A wave of nausea rose in my throat, I forced it down. Tears burned at the corners of my eyes, but I refused to let them fall.

Government ministers took turns at the podium. Their voices carried across the room and through the broadcast. They described my family as a poison that had nearly corrupted the nation. They spoke of hidden wealth, secret meetings, and plans to betray the people. None of it matched the man I knew. My father had served Eryndor faithfully for decades. He had advised presidents and helped shape policies that improved lives. When he began to question the growing power of certain families, they turned against him. Now they used this public display to warn everyone else.

I stood there, humiliated and broken in body. The chains around my wrists and ankles reminded me constantly of my new position. Once the son of a respected leader, I was now just another prisoner. The guards had dragged me in earlier, pushing me roughly through the jeering crowd. They wanted everyone to see the Veridians brought low. My mother and sister had already been taken elsewhere. I did not know their fate. The uncertainty added another layer of pain to the moment.

Anger began to replace the shock. It started as a small fire in my chest and grew with every mocking laugh from the audience. These powerful dynasties had destroyed my family. They sat in high seats now, watching with cold satisfaction. I memorized their faces. I noted every official who smiled at the proceedings. They believed they had won. They thought the Veridian line ended here. In that moment, I made a silent promise. I would make them pay for what they had done. I would find a way to expose their lies and tear down the system they controlled. Vengeance became my only clear thought amid the chaos.

The guards pulled me back as the speeches continued. My feet scraped against the floor. Pain shot through my body with each step, but I kept my head up. I would not give them the satisfaction of seeing me crumble. As they dragged me toward the side exit, I scanned the front row of dignitaries. President Halden sat in the center, his posture straight and his expression carefully neutral. He had known my father for years. They had worked together on many projects. Now he presided over this spectacle without visible emotion.

Then I saw it. A quick exchange. President Halden turned his head slightly and met the eyes of Lucien Voss. Voss sat to the right, dressed in the dark uniform of his security forces. Their gaze lingered for just a second longer than necessary. It was not a look of shared victory. Something passed between them. A silent understanding. A confirmation. My mind raced despite the pain and grief. This was more than a simple execution of a political rival. There were layers here. Secrets. Alliances that went deeper than the public knew.

The guards shoved me through the doorway before I could see more. The heavy door closed behind us, muffling the sounds of the crowd. We moved down a narrow corridor lined with concrete walls. My chains clinked with every step. I kept replaying that glance in my mind. President Halden and Lucien Voss. One controlled the government. The other commanded the security apparatus that enforced its will. If they shared a hidden connection, it explained much about how my father had been targeted so efficiently.

I thought about the years leading to this day. My father had grown concerned about the concentration of power in a few hands. He spoke privately about reforms that would restore balance. Those words reached the wrong ears. Investigations began. Evidence appeared that no one in our family recognized. Friends distanced themselves. Allies disappeared. The machine moved fast once it started. Now it had claimed its most visible prize.

My body hurt, but my mind felt sharper than ever. The humiliation fueled my resolve. They had beaten me to show dominance. They had chained me to strip away my dignity. Instead, they had given me purpose. I would survive this. I would learn their weaknesses. And when the time came, I would strike back against every dynasty that had joined in this destruction.

The corridor ended at another set of doors. Bright daylight waited outside. They were moving me to a transport vehicle. I glanced back once toward the courtroom. The sounds of celebration still carried faintly. My father’s face remained fixed in my memory. His final look had not been one of defeat. It carried a message of endurance. I would honor that.

As the guards pushed me into the vehicle, I sat down heavily on the metal bench. The doors slammed shut. The engine started. I stared at the floor while the vehicle moved forward. Outside, the nation continued its day, fed on the spectacle they had just witnessed. But inside me, a plan began to form. It was rough and incomplete, born from pain and anger, but it was there.

I thought of my mother and sister again. I hoped they still lived. If they did, I would find them. If not, their loss would add to the debt the powerful owed me. The Veridian name would not fade into history as a warning. It would rise again as a threat.

The vehicle bumped along the road. My chains rattled. Each jolt reminded me of my physical limits, but my will felt unbreakable. I had watched my father die for principles he believed in. Now those principles lived in me. The secret glance between Halden and Voss had revealed a crack in their united front. I would widen that crack until the whole structure fell.

Hours of travel lay ahead toward whatever prison waited for me. I used the time to think. I recalled names, connections, and past events that might prove useful. I examined my own knowledge of the government’s operations. My father had shared much with me over the years. That information, once a privilege, now became my weapon.

The sun moved across the sky as we traveled. I did not sleep. I could not. Grief and determination kept my eyes open. The mockery of the crowd echoed in my ears. The image of my father’s final moments stayed clear. I let those memories harden me. This was not the end of my story. It was the beginning of a longer fight.

By the time the vehicle slowed, I had made my decision firm. I would endure whatever came next. I would learn, adapt, and wait for the right moment. The powerful dynasties of Eryndor had made a mistake when they left me alive. They had created their own enemy in that courtroom.

I stepped out when ordered, my body sore but my spirit clear. The prison gates loomed ahead. I walked forward without hesitation. Inside, I carried the vow I had made while watching my father die. Vengeance would come. Justice would be served in my own way. The nation had seen the Veridians fall today. One day, it would see them rise again.

The guards led me through processing. They took my name and remaining possessions. I answered their questions in a flat voice. My mind remained focused on the future. That single exchanged glance between President Halden and Lucien Voss had opened a door in my thoughts. There was more to this than public treason charges. There were hidden motives and private agreements. Discovering them would be part of my path.

Night fell as I sat alone in my cell. The walls were bare and the light dim. I lay on the thin mattress and stared at the ceiling. My father’s voice seemed to echo in the quiet. He had taught me that true strength came from within. I held onto that teaching now. The pain in my body would heal. The chains would eventually come off. But the commitment I made in that courtroom would remain.

I closed my eyes and pictured the faces of those responsible. The dynasties that controlled Eryndor from behind its official structures. They believed themselves untouchable. I would prove them wrong. Step by careful step, I would build my response. Allies might still exist in unexpected places. Information could be gathered. Time would be my advantage.

The execution had taken place in public to send a message. I received a different message than the one intended. Their display of power showed me exactly where to aim my efforts. As sleep finally approached, I whispered my vow into the darkness.

Hours passed in silence, then I heard footsteps in the corridor.

They stopped outside my cell. The small viewing slot in the door slid open and I saw a pair of cold eyes stare at me, and a low voice spoke, it was calm and deliberate.

“Zyno Veridian, your father was only the beginning. Sleep well tonight, and tomorrow, you will learn what real power looks like.”

My head fell back, a soft sound escaping me as his fingers memorized my waist. My anger melted beneath his desperation.
"James..." I whispered, more plea than protest.
His hand caught mine, fingers threading together tightly. "I'll bring him back. I swear it. Just... don't turn away from me. Please."
The word please—low, ragged, almost broken—undid me more than anything else could have.
