Veiled Luna: Between Two Alphas
CalebWhite · Ongoing · 44.2k Words
Introduction
To evade capture, I cut my golden hair short, concealed my gender, and infiltrated the military academy Zenith University under the identity of a commoner boy named "Ray Winters." I told myself that if I could just endure four years, I would gain enough power to protect myself.
But fate played a cruel joke by making me encounter them—
Commander Kyle Strike, the cold and ruthless tactical instructor. He cornered me against the wall in his office, his voice low and dangerous: "You're trembling, Winters. Is it because I'm too close?" His wolf recognized me as his fated mate, yet he couldn't understand why he felt such a fatal attraction to a "male student." "Tell me," he leaned close to my ear, "why does your scent make my rationality crumble?"
Jax Wilde, the wild and untamed genius warrior. In the soul-bond dream bestowed by the Moon Goddess, he kissed every corner of my lips, his voice husky: "You're mine, even though I don't know your name." In reality, when our lips accidentally brushed, he seized my wrist forcefully, his amber eyes burning with beast-like possessiveness: "This feeling... exactly like in the dream. Ray, tell me, who exactly are you?"
Two Alphas, two fated bonds, one deadly secret. When the truth is revealed, will I lose everything, or gain eternity?
Chapter 1
Rhea
Three days.
That's how long I had left before Crown Prince Tyrant of Ironfang would sink his teeth into my neck and claim me as his mate for life.
The thought should have filled me with joy. Instead, cold dread pooled in my stomach as I sat at the place of honor in Ironfang's Grand Hall, surrounded by nobles from five kingdoms who kept shooting me envious glances like I'd won some great prize.
His scent is wrong tonight, my wolf growled. Too thick. Too possessive.
I told her to shut up and focused on keeping my smile pleasant as Tyrant's hand settled at my waist, fingers pressing just a little too hard.
"You look radiant tonight, my dear," he murmured against my ear. "Like the Moon Goddess herself descended to grace us mortals."
The compliment was perfectly delivered. The nobles sighed appreciatively. But Tyrant's scent had shifted—the cedar and leather I'd grown accustomed to now underlaid with something sharper. Something that made my wolf snarl Alpha on the hunt.
"Thank you," I managed. "You're too kind."
His smile widened, and for just a moment, his amber eyes flashed cold. Then it was gone, replaced by warm affection.
Liar, my wolf snarled. Predator.
"The union of our houses!" The Grand Duke's voice cut through the hall as he raised his goblet. "Represents not merely a marriage, but the dawn of a new era!"
Applause erupted. Tyrant stood, drawing me up with him, his grip on my hand gentle but absolutely unyielding.
"Honored guests," he began, his voice projecting easily. "Allow me to introduce the woman who has captured not only my heart but my very soul."
My stomach dropped. This wasn't part of the schedule. Tyrant was supposed to give a brief toast, nothing more. But he was turning to me now, his eyes beginning to glow, and the scent rolling off him intensified—cedar smoke, thick and cloying.
"Lady Rhea is not simply beautiful, though her violet eyes could make poets weep." He raised our joined hands high, displaying me like a prize kill. "She is everything the Moon Goddess designed as the perfect complement to an Alpha's strength."
More applause. I felt hundreds of eyes on us, but my wolf's unease had graduated to genuine alarm.
When we sat, Tyrant's hand tightened on my waist. I tried to shift away slightly. His fingers dug into my flesh immediately, finding pressure points that made me gasp.
He leaned in, lips brushing my ear. "Don't pull away from me again," he breathed. "Not here. Not ever."
He pulled back, pressed a kiss to my temple that drew sighs from watching nobles. But his scent had changed again—burnt wood now, acrid and aggressive.
He's performing, I realized. Every touch, every word—it's all a show.
Dinner continued in a blur. Tyrant's hand remained on my shoulder, thumb stroking in rhythmic circles that made my muscles tense. His scent kept shifting—cedar to smoke to something darker that smelled like possession and barely controlled violence.
By the seventh course, my wolf was throwing herself against my skull, desperate to transform, to fight.
Then Duke Shadowpeak rose, clearly drunk. "A toast to the happy couple! But first—a kiss! Let us see the love that will unite our kingdoms!"
No.
The call was taken up immediately. Fists pounded on tables, feet stamped, creating a drumbeat that shook the palace. "Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!"
Tyrant turned to me, eyes glowing, smile predatory. "Shall we give them what they want, my love?" His hand cupped my jaw, tilting my face up, his scent crashing over me—raw, aggressive, mine.
If you let him kiss you here, you'll never escape, my wolf exploded. He'll own you. Body and soul.
I pulled back, hand on his chest. "Tyrant, I would prefer to save our first kiss for the ceremony itself. Under the Moon Goddess's direct witness, as tradition dictates."
The hall fell silent.
Tyrant's face went blank. His eyes flared with murderous rage. His hand tightened on my jaw, claws pricking my skin—four sharp points of pain. His scent exploded into burning fury.
Then his expression smoothed into warmth. He released my jaw, took my hand, kissed my knuckles. "My beloved Rhea reminds me why the Goddess chose her as my mate. Her devotion to tradition, her respect for the sacred ceremony—these are the qualities that will make her a queen worthy of legend."
He smiled at me, perfect and genuine-looking. "You are absolutely right, my dear. Our first kiss should be witnessed by the Goddess herself."
The hall erupted in applause. "A true gentleman!" someone called.
But beneath the table, Tyrant's hand found my thigh and squeezed—hard enough to bruise, hard enough to send a message: You will pay for this.
My wolf went silent, waiting, preparing.
The dinner ended. Tyrant leaned close. "When this is over, you will accompany me to the Moon Garden. We need to discuss your behavior tonight." His hand tightened until my bones ground together. "Do you understand, Rhea?"
I understood with the clarity of prey recognizing a predator's killing intent.
"Yes, Tyrant."
"Good girl."
The Moon Garden was a trap—white marble and moonlight, high walls with no escape. Tyrant led me to the central pavilion, his grip bruising. The moment we were alone, he released me so suddenly I stumbled.
When I looked up, the charming prince was gone. In his place stood something cold and furious, eyes blazing, scent aggressive enough to make my wolf snarl.
"You made me look like a fool," he said, voice low and dangerous. "Like I can't even control my own mate."
"I just wanted to follow tradition—"
"Tradition?" He laughed bitterly. "You challenged my authority in public. You've been too bold from the start—learning combat, discussing politics, voicing opinions. Did you think you'd be some kind of equal partner?"
He moved closer. I backed away.
"Every male in that hall was staring at you tonight. I saw how they looked at what's mine." He lunged, caught my wrist, yanked me against him. His other hand fisted in my hair. "You belong to me. Only I get to look. Only I get to touch."
"Let go!" I tried to pull away but his strength was overwhelming.
"I'm done pretending." His hand caught my neck, fingers digging into the marking spot. "You think this past six months was real? I was training you. Breaking you in." His canines extended. "I'm going to mark you tonight. Right now. Once the bond is complete, your wolf will submit to mine permanently."
Terror flooded me. "No—"
He pulled my head to the side, exposing my throat. I felt his breath, hot and hungry, felt his canines press against my skin, and then—
Pain. Blinding pain as his teeth broke skin.
I screamed, struggling, but he was stronger, pinning me. My gown tore. But marking took thirty seconds to complete—I still had time—
My wolf exploded through my control with unprecedented force.
GET. OFF. US.
The Alpha command holding me shattered. Power flooded my limbs—my own power, mine by right of blood and fury.
I drove my knee into his groin with everything I had.
His scream was beautiful. He released me, doubling over. I didn't think—just moved. My claws extended and I raked them across his face, feeling flesh part, feeling bone. Three deep furrows opened from temple to jaw, blood pouring.
"How dare you!" I snarled, half-transformed, canines extended, pure animal rage.
Tyrant staggered back, hand pressed to his bleeding face, staring in shock. Blood poured between his fingers, dark and glistening in the moonlight. "You... you attacked me?"
Shock morphed into pure rage. His eyes blazed brighter, wolf rising to the surface completely. "You bitch! You'll regret it!"
I was already running, my torn gown tangling around my legs, my shoulder bleeding from the incomplete bite. Behind me, Tyrant's roar shook the marble columns—not human anymore, pure wolf fury.
"GUARDS!" His voice cracked like thunder across the garden. "SEAL THE PALACE! NO ONE LEAVES!"
I heard boots pounding, shouts echoing off stone walls. My heart hammered as I sprinted through an archway, into the shadowed corridors beyond.
"FIND HER!" Tyrant's voice followed me, raw with rage and something darker—obsession. "I want every gate locked, every exit guarded! She doesn't leave this palace! DO YOU HEAR ME? She's MINE!"
The sound of shifting reached me—the wet crack of bones reshaping, the growl of a wolf twice the size of any normal Alpha. He was transforming. He was hunting.
"I'll drag you back by your throat if I have to, Rhea!" His words dissolved into a howl that made my blood run cold. "You can't escape me! You'll NEVER escape me!"
