Chapter 1
In a quiet city.
The wind blew the fragrance of freshly bloomed flowers, what a sight to behold.
But for Amelia, she found the air rather suffocating and rather unpleasant.
She was informed by an anonymous sender of how her boyfriend, Jack, was unfaithful.
She was also told to go to one of King's hotels if she wanted further proof.
Although she didn't believe it was true and didn't want to waste her time she went there anyway.
She wanted to break up with him so she was just going to catch him in the act and do so.
She couldn't believe her eyes. Two familiar silhouette figures stood at a hushed predicament, getting intimate with each other.
One was her boyfriend the other was her best friend, Mabel.
"Ja...ck" Mabel managed to choke out while Jack was busy kissing up and down the side of her neck.
"Jack... Hold on for a moment" Mabel stuttered.
"What is it?"
"I have something to tell you"
"Well then, say it already" Jack snapped. Mabel hated it when Jack used that tone on her.
" I'm pregnant Jack and it's your baby" Jack and Amelia were both surprised.
Jack tensed up.
" What do you mean you are pregnant?".
"I'm pregnant with your baby, you are going to be a father Jack" Jack cackled.
" Are you crazy? I'm not going to be the father of that bastard child so get rid of it" he said while trying to continue the intimacy.
With which Mabel of course got irritated and pushed him away.
" Yes you are, I'm not going to get rid of it and we are going to take care of it together".
" Fine, do whatever the hell you want to do". Jack didn't want to press the matter any further.
He tried touching her again but she wouldn't let him.
" What now?" Jack was starting to get bored with her.
" You have to promise me that you will break up with that stupid whore Amelia, I can't stand seeing her with you anymore" Amelia couldn't take it anymore this was too much for one day.
She left the hotel and went straight to the hospital.
Mabel has been her best friend for a very long time, she has known Mabel for almost her whole life.
Mabel's parents died when she was just a ten-year-old girl. Her grandmother took her in.
However, her grandmother was very old and could hardly make a living for herself.
Amelia's father took it upon himself to provide for both Mabel and her grandmother financially.
Soon after Mabel's grandmother died, And then Amelia's father took her in as his second daughter.
Amelia's mother died before she was brought into this world, The corpse was operated on to get the baby out. Her father never moved on after that at least that was what Amelia thought.
Amelia never expected Mabel to say that kind of crap behind her back and especially to betray her by sleeping with her boyfriend.
Amelia never really cared about what Jack did with his life. Jack was a spoiled rich kid who depended solely on his father's money.
She knew that her relationship with Jack wouldn't last long, she didn't even like the guy, the only reason she ever agreed to date him was that he was becoming too clingy and even started stalking her just so he could date her.
She just wanted to give him the satisfaction that he needed and then break up with him.
Amelia's father was diagnosed with heart disease and hospitalized when she was twenty-three years old.
She needed to save a lot of money if she wanted to pay for her dad's surgery.
If she delayed the surgery for too long it might be too late and he might as well become a vegetable for the rest of his life, and the doctors will have no other option but to pull the plug.
When she entered his room, the first thing she noticed was that his lifeless body was much paler than it used to be. Seeing her father like that added to her agony.
She couldn't hold back her tears any longer. She let it all out.
She missed her father. If he were still whole he would have hugged her and whispered in her ear that everything is going to be alright.
She told him everything that happened that day. She always made sure to keep him updated. Although he couldn't respond she believed that he listens to her.
Amelia stayed with her father for a few hours before deciding that it was about time she left for her working shift.
On her way out the doctor in charge of her father showed up.
"May I speak with you Miss Anderson?"
"Sure" they both went outside the room.
"Your father's condition is worsening, the surgery has to be performed as soon as possible" the doctor paused for a while and continued "I don't think it can be delayed any longer".
"I know please give me a little more time I'll come up with something"
"I'm afraid time is not on your side," the doctor said truthfully before going back to his office.
" What am I going to do now?" she sighed.
Lia was a graduate of business but she hadn't yet gotten her dream job. Her dream was to work in the Griffon group. However, no matter how many times she applied they would always reject her application.
Although the Griffon group wasn't the biggest company, heck it wasn't even top twenty. She felt as if that was where she belonged. But now she was going to let go of that dream because the chairman is Jack's father and she wouldn't want to be anywhere near him.
Lia was currently working as a care giver, it helped her a lot especially with bills piling up and with her father's medical fees. But it wasn't enough to pay for the surgery.
When she was leaving the hospital she bumped into someone, not having enough strength to look up she just mumbled a quick sorry and continued her journey.
Little did she know that the person she had just bumped into had her future right in the palm of his hands.
Meanwhile, the person she just bumped into without realizing it, was Leonardo king, the most wanted bachelor across the whole continent.
He was known for his looks, power, and wealth. But he also had a short temper, is arrogant, and wouldn't even think twice before he ends you.
He was referred to as the dark prince. He was the kind of person to make you piss in your pants if he looked the slightest bit upset.
He was the kind of person to do whatever the hell he wanted to do and no one could say shit about it even if it were the meanest crime you could ever think about.
So when Lia bumped into him, everyone who knew who he was, we're all standing still expecting something bad to happen at that moment.
But to their surprise, he just stood there like he was lost in his thoughts. But after a while, he recovered and looked back to see if the woman was still there, thankfully, she wasn't there.
She looked like someone that he had been searching for, But to no avail. He couldn't even get a proper glance at her because she didn't look up. Maybe he was just insinuating things.
He continued striding to where ever he was headed and as if nothing ever happened.
Perhaps he wasn't feeling too well today that was why he was at the hospital and wasn't acting like himself, That's what the others thought.
But only he and his men truly knew why they were there. It was for the sake of business. He came to give a little scare, but in a nicer tone he came to visit an old friend who owed him money.
The King of the underworld wasn't to be messed with after all.
Lia was working her usual evening shift when Mary, one of her colleagues called out to her.
"Amelia"
"Hmmn, how may I help you?"
"Not me, someone is here to see you she is in the lobby" Mary informed her.
"If you could, please bring her in"
"Sure"
Mary led the guest towards Lia's desk. It was Mabel how disturbing. What could she possibly want now? Lia wondered.
"Sister" Mabel screeched out and hugged Lia. Anyone who glanced at them would have believed they had the best relationship.
"Hey" Lia just gave a quick wave. She just decided to keep up with the facade for the time being.
"Oh, sister you have no idea how much I've missed you" Mabel said and kept on rambling about how she had been doing all this while, how she had been shopping living the life of luxury from the job she had.
Unlike Lia, Mabel was able to get into the Griffon group. But what Lia didn't know, was that Mabel was also the reason why she couldn't get the job.
You see Mabel wasn't just a two-faced bitch, she was also a venomous snake who would poison the mind of anyone around her just to make Lia suffer.
When Mabel found out that Jack and Lia were going out, she knew she had to do something quickly. She started by attending any party the Griffon's would throw and began to get closer to the family.
Of course, she was introduced as Lia's sister at first but with time, she became more than that to the family. She would always make sure she was with Mrs. Griffon, Jack's mother.
She made sure to change the perspective view of Mrs. Griffon towards Lia, making her despise Lia.
So every time Lia met with her she would always give her the cold shoulders. Mrs. Griffon made sure that Lia would never be able to get a job at her family's company.
After Mabel was done with her ranting she continued to say;
"Anyway, I'm here is to inform you about something" the air suddenly became tense.
"What is it?" Lia was already expecting what was going to come next.

Love's Deadly Equation
I was sent to her.
To watch her. To protect her. And, when the order comes… to kill her.
My name is Keegan Caffery. I’m the Carter Mafia’s best hitman. I don’t miss. I don’t fail.
At least, I didn’t use to.
I don’t know what it is about her that got to me first—her mouth, her mind, or the way she looks at me like I’m not what she should fear.
I’ve had a gun to her head since I walked into her life.
She knows it.
And she still doesn’t run.
She just watches me back like she’s studying a problem she refuses to call impossible.
She’s the one variable I can’t control.
And God help me… I don’t want to.
I have an order. I have loyalty. I have a trigger.
But every time I imagine it—
I can’t stand it.
Her or me. That’s the math.
It’s a deadly equation I don’t want to solve.
⬥ Maisie ⬥
I’m not ordinary. I stopped pretending long ago.
My name is Maisie Seo. IQ 145. Clinical genius.
Which sounds impressive until you realize what it actually means: I don’t fit anywhere people expect me to.
I see patterns everywhere. Outcomes before they happen. People like equations I’ve already solved.
It gets lonely in a world you’ve already figured out.
So I dull myself down. Smoke the edges off. Pretend, badly, to be the kind of normal that lets people stay.
Then he walked in.
I knew what he was immediately. Dangerous. Intentional. Wrong in all the right ways.
I should be afraid of him.
I keep waiting for that to kick in.
Instead, I’m fascinated.
Because for the first time in my life… I’ve found something I can’t solve.
He is my deadly equation.
